I've always tried to encourage curiosity in my three children and now six (!) grandchildren. My kids often reminisce about my default response to their childhood questions: pointing to the bookshelf that flanked our sofa and saying, “look it up in there!” Luckily, natural curiosity was never lacking in our household. Over the years, however, I have become increasingly frustrated when I hear about the stultifying, rote, curiosity-killing nature of our education system. It was a pleasure, therefore, to speak to Audrey Wisch, an impressive young founder who, after witnessing first-hand how kids' curiosity was being crushed, decided to do something about it. She left Stanford University to build Curious Cardinals, a personalized service that matches children with university mentors. What started as a pandemic project has grown into something much bigger - Audrey and her co-founder were named to the 2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 List in education, and Curious Cardinals has now delivered over 20,000 hours of mentorship to over 2,000 kids. As you'll hear in our conversation, Audrey's approach to education is a breath of fresh air, focusing on agency and empowerment, meeting kids where their interests lie, and harnessing the benefits of technology. In this episode, Tara welcomes Audrey Wisch, the founder of Curious Cardinals, a platform that empowers K-12 students to achieve their potential through mentorship. Audrey's journey from a history major at Stanford to the founder of a platform that empowers K-12 students is nothing short of inspiring. She shares how her tutoring experience during the pandemic led her to create a platform that connects students' school subjects to their passions, making learning more engaging and fun.Tara and Audrey have a candid discussion about the generational divide between parents and their children's interests. For instance, many kids today want to be YouTubers, but many parents don't know how to foster those passions or provide the necessary skills. Audrey shares a fascinating story about a girl who loved TikTok and how they helped her discover her interest in stop motion photography. They also discuss ways that parents can support their children's passions and interests without getting in the way. Many parents can be "helicopter parents" who push their kids into certain activities or career paths that may not align with their true interests. Instead, Audrey suggests taking a step back and allowing children to independently pursue their passions. She also emphasizes the power of mentorship and representation. She believes that a good mentor should possess qualities like passion, excitement, curiosity, compassion, and emotional intelligence. She shares how mentors have sparked her interest in subjects she previously had no interest in and how they can humanize success by sharing their own struggles and obstacles. If you want to support your children's passions, but don't know how, then listen to this episode!Links:https://www.curiouscardinals.com/https://www.instagram.com/curiouscardinals/Support the show Follow & DM me @modernmomprobs Pick up my book Check out modernmomprobs Shout out to Citizens of Sound Leave a review

In the last five years, retail care has grown 200%, giving patients a more accessible and affordable pathway to preventive primary care outside of the traditional practice model. Is specialty care the next frontier for retail medicine? Network Eye CEO Jeremy Kirsch and Executive Chairman Steven Wisch join Justin to discuss how their company is using AI to bring ophthalmology into the retail setting, make diagnosis faster and less expensive, and blaze trails for other specialties in the retail care space. Justin, Jeremy, and Steven examine how retail care and AI can get higher-risk patients into the care continuum earlier and keep them out of the emergency room. They also explore the mutual benefits of partnerships between medical specialists and retailers, the role of retail care under the transition toward value-based care, and why the retail model ultimately elevates—not replaces—private practices. To learn more about Definitive Healthcare, please visit us at definitivehc.com.

Audrey Wisch is co-founder and CEO of Curious Cardinals, a global mentorship community that connects K-12 students with passionate college mentors. And Audrey is the kind of person who makes me excited about the future.People spend a lot of time talking about Millennials and Gen-Z. And if we're being honest, a lot of the time people are talking about the younger generations, they're complaining about how they just don't make ‘em like they used to.And it's true — Gen-Z is different. Some have different priorities. Some approach their work and career differently. But this doesn't have to be a bad thing. We're in the process of co-creating the future of work, and that process is only going to be improved by embracing these differences and including Gen-Z in that conversation. After hearing from Audrey, I think you'll agree that Gen-Z has a lot to add to the future of work.Learn more and find the complete show notes at https://www.conniewsteele.com/podcastResources:Learn more at https://www.curiouscardinals.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/audrey-micay-wisch-39a95a1b2/Twitter: https://twitter.com/AudreyWisch
