Jeffrey had several questions for David in their conversation: With Michigan facing significant rate hikes, (from the likes of DTE and Consumers), how can prepaid utility programs help consumers, and businesses better manage rising energy costs? From a utility's perspective, how does a prepay model improve cash flow and reduce delinquency-related expenses? What have you seen in other markets that demonstrates the long-term business value of offering prepay options? How can prepaid programs drive business-customer engagement and satisfaction while also promoting energy efficiency? What barriers—technical, regulatory, or cultural—must utilities overcome to successfully implement prepay solutions? Michigan consumers are facing significant increases in their energy bills as DTE Energy and Consumers Energy have proposed rate hikes. A Consumers Energy solar and renewable natural gas site on farmland near Battle Creek is an example of others the utility intends to build on other sites.That's the word from David Hicks, Consumers Energy vice-president of clean energy development, who says the goal is 20 such facilities in order to attain the company's renewable energy goals.The utility expects the final project to generate enough power to provide electricity to 25,000 homes and reduce emissions equivalent to thousands of cars.Hicks tells Community Matters about the Spring Creek Farms site, where ground was broken in a first of its kind AgriEnergy Center in Michigan. The site will create solar energy as well as convert menure to natural gas using a so-called biodigester. During his tenure, he was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and earned the Enlisted Surface Warfare Badge.  He also served in the Michigan Army National Guard and retired at the rank of Captain after 21 years of combined service.  Bill was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Achievement Medal as well as the Combat Action Badge. He served as the Commander of the 144th Military Police Company during his combat tour in Iraq.  Bill is currently a life member of the VFW and National Guard Association of the United States.  He serves as the Legislative Chair for the National Guard Association of Michigan, where he is also a life member.  He is married with three children and one grandchild.  Bill enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.  He has a passion for serving our military Veterans.Thank you for pressing play on this small veteran podcast.
