Jewel and Desmond Guy are focused on healing the Black Family. After necessary conversations that enhanced and stabilized their relationship, they decided to share their journey with the world by writing. The product of this was two books Dear Black Men and Dear Black Women. For this episode we will be discussing Dear Black Men. Dear Black Men gives Black men the opportunity to reflect and express without interruption or judgment. It is an opportunity for Black men to be heard and understood. It is a journey to create empathy while dispelling the lies, assumptions, and non-communicated expectations that are often placed on Black men. Dear Black Men is a mirror. A window into our souls. It requires us to ask the hard questions, place ourselves in a Black man's shoes, listen to understand, acknowledge our behavior, atone for our short-sightedness, and begin again with clarity and true understanding. This book is a catalyst for establishing healthy relationships with the men so many say they love. Black women have been fighting the battle to be heard and seen for what seems like, since the beginning of time. And you would think with all that is going on with the call for injustice to end ( since slavery was abolished) that we would have made it by now. But, aht-ta-aht that is still not the case here in 2021. We are still fighting to be taken seriously when we say we are in pain, or need help at hospitals. We are still fighting to be seen in the corporate world, and we are even fighting to be seen and heard by the people in our lives. What's it going to take for people to hear us when we speak? That we mean what we said when we said it. Like, "hey man, I said what I said." Don't save him, cause he don't wanna be saved. Early Friday morning, an article from Rebecca Stevens A. on Medium, a site for amazing writers, hit my phone. It is entitled, "Is it True What They Say about Sex With Black Girls?" Read it here: https://medium.com/illumination-curated/is-it-true-what-they-say-about-sex-with-black-girls-223333aeb10d I immediately thought, "What do 'they' say?", as I read the article. I know what I've experienced; however, I wanted to hear what someone else who lived mostly outside of the United States experienced. Would we be similar? Would we be different? We had a similar experience as black girls growing up. The article resonated with me and it resonated with Ashley, my co-host. We are, indeed, two spectacular, single black women navigating a cruel world courageously. I immediately alerted Ashley and this podcast episode was born. Wait, let me back up... it's not really an episode as much as it is an experience to be had and savored, if you can stand the heat. We provide a 30 minute warmup prior to diving into the deep, and I'm warning you that we go deep. There are many words that people who are NOT black women use to describe us. I say it's time to take back the narrative and the power from those who do not walk in our shoes. In Episode 20 of Welcome to the Podi, the conversation revolves deeply around the concepts of trust and respect, vs, control. Kareem, Rebekah, and Danica pay their respects to the late Cicely Tyson and go on to discuss the importance of such a strong black woman, and how selective she was about how she portrayed herself as a black woman on screen. In this free-flowing episode, many tangents were made, touching on topics like self-confidence, affirmations, Black History Month, dating outside your age gap and so on. This is a freedom of expression podcast where we take pride in speaking freely, respectively, objectively and having open conversations. I had to Clap back, and dissect the newest black female clown-show that has popped up on the side of white supremacy! First off i love and respect my sisters, but there is an element of white supremacy that are out targeting these women to do there bidding, and a pattern is starting to emerge! First Katrina Peirson, Amorosa manegault, silk & Diamond, Candace Owens, and an ex-convict Trump released from prison ( i think her last name was Washington) along with a handful of black men, and now these two. (Bevelyn Beatty, and Jasmyne Contours) one (came from nothing her words), the other an educated freak show theirs no telling where they dug this privileged wanna be white woman from! for all we know she could be another Katrina pierce who had a criminal history as long as my are for stealing before joining trump organization! these people are dangerous especially Jasmyne Contours quoting Booker T. Washington. you see its true that there are blacks who keep the ills of our people out in the open to capitalize off them, but she's worse because she's telling YOU not to complain or its not that bad or its You that have the privilege instead of white people having white privilege in this country! stay the course people and watch for these snakes For this and other shows check me out on youtube at: https://youtu.be/8i51hjmLOqo --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/marcus-gentry/support

Throughout history it has been very evident that black women have often been overlooked. From the entertainment industry to politics & even the work force. Studies have shown that they are paid as low as 75¢ for every $1 earned by men. But even worst, black women are regularly pitted against each other & even torn apart for the same things that other races of women are celebrated for. At times it seems as if they are alone in their struggles and no one has their backs, not even black men. So today we shed light on some of those everyday things that black women have to deal with on a regular basis. More importantly this is our open letter to black women to show our support and appreciation. We love you!

In my younger years I believed the key to my success in the workplace was my line manager. A string of road blocks, incompetent managers and a large dose of office politics soon made me realise that success is a choice and the choice sits with me. Too much responsibility is placed on our managers when in fact a manager owes you nothing. We are often raised with the mindset to be grateful to have a job but this shouldn't then make us so grateful that we talk ourselves out of growing and developing in an organisation, or in our careers. The responsibility of progression, growth and success is yours. Managers manage a department they do not manage your career that's your responsibility. Dear Black Women, We know that often times you don’t feel appreciated and uplifted by the black man. The reality of it is, that us black men appreciate you more than you may know; or more than we know how to express. We think you’re the strongest race of women on this planet and it’s time we start to discuss ways we can be more uplifting. Sincerely, The Black Man Too often we see gender bias and sexism (through our mindsets and music) which can often leave our black women at a disadvantage in the black culture. This week we focus on the “sisters” and the importance of keeping our black women uplifted and appreciated. This one is for you Black Woman!
