Dr. Joseph Jones is the Superintendent of Schools in the New Castle County Vocational-Technical School District. Joe is a former high school teacher, assistant principal and principal. As principal, he was named the Delaware Secondary Principal of the Year and during his tenure, Delcastle Technical High School was the first high school to receive the state's Outstanding Academic Achievement Award. Joe received his doctorate from the University of Delaware in educational leadership. He is also an adjunct professor for various universities. Dr. T.J. Vari is the Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools and District Operations in the Appoquinimink School District. T.J. is a former middle school assistant principal and principal and former high school English teacher. His master's degree is in School Leadership and his doctorate is in Innovation and Leadership. He holds several honors and distinctions, including his past appointment as President of the Delaware Association for School Administrators and the Paul Carlson Administrator of the Year Award. He teaches educational leadership courses at the masters and doctoral level. Together, Joe and T.J. present nationally on topics of school leadership, and they co-founded TheSchoolHouse302, which is a leadership development institute specializing in leadership coaching for new and experienced school leaders. I had a chance to sit with past AL!VE Impact Award winners regarding their experience and what it meant to them. See below to learn more about each winner!  Susan began working for the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education in 1996. She manages an over 1200 volunteer base for the Foundation's statewide programs. She is a graduate of the ASU Lodestar Non-Profit Administration program and has earned her National Certification as a Volunteer Administrator. She was the lead in the Foundation receiving certification by Points of Light as a Service Enterprise which states the Foundation strategically leverages volunteers to achieve operational efficiency and greater social impact. Her background covers over 35 years of working with non-profit organizations, including volunteer administration, training, victim assistance, and serving on various boards of directors, both locally and nationally. She served as President of the Association of Volunteer Administrators of Central Arizona and currently serves as Treasurer. She is also a member of AL!VE. Early in his life, Gregory Finkle tasted the pleasure of accomplishing something and getting paid for it. At 14 years old, he was already ambitious and a hard worker; he started helping in an extermination company, handling an eighty-pound hammer drilling holes in a basement. Encouraged by his parents and incentivized by his desire to accomplish more, the habit of being rewarded for his job accompanied him through college as well. After becoming a civil engineer, his desire to consistently achieve more, faith, and hard-working mindset helped him go from Engineer to Operations Manager in his first job and start his own company. Gregory Finkle is the Principal at Trinity Subsurface Engineering, LLC. He holds a BSCE in Civil Engineering from the University of Delaware and a Professional Engineer Certificate from the Delaware Association of Professional Engineers. Gregory is also part of the Church Leadership at the Gateway Community Church; he is a loving husband and father of three kids, with one more already on the way. In this episode, we talk about Gregory's journey into the construction industry, his dreams as a kid, faith, and the positive mindset that helped him succeed. Gregory shared details of his first job at Master Locators, where he learned the basics of being on the field as an engineer first and the secrets of being an operations manager later. Join us with our special guest Dr. Jeff Roth for a conversation on how to initiate and lead crisis response teams in the urban school districts. Dr. Jeff Roth joined the Brandywine School District in Delaware where he initiated Operation Cooperation — a school-wide approach to conflict resolution, helped initiate and lead the district Crisis Response Team, and was named School Psychologist of the Year by the Delaware Association of School Psychologists. He developed Instructional Support and Positive Behavior Support teams, a social skills curriculum, and a program of self-directed professional development for school psychologists. He was trained in the PREPaRE Model, Critical Incident Stress Management, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI), and Red Cross Disaster Mental Health. He is an American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health volunteer. Dr. Roth received his undergraduate degree in psychology at Temple University. After serving in the Air Force, he practiced social work and returned to graduate school at Temple where he earned his doctorate. During graduate school, Dr. Roth worked as a recreational therapist at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children and taught graduate courses at Arcadia University. He is a licensed psychologist in Delaware. Dr. Roth is an adjunct professor at Wilmington University, Delaware. He co-developed a mentoring program for new school psychologists for the state Department of Education. Dr. Roth authored School Crisis Response: Reflections of a Team Leader (2015) and co-edited Perspectives on School Crisis Response: Reflections from the Field (2018).?
