Send us a textHow can genetic counselling shape your fertility journey? In this episode, we sit down with Meaghan Doyle, a certified genetic counsellor, to unravel the crucial role of genetics in fertility care. From understanding sperm and egg genetics to navigating preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), Meaghan sheds light on how genetic screening can help manage pregnancy loss, prevent hereditary conditions, and improve family-building options. We also explore the latest genetic tests available in clinics across Canada, their benefits, and their limitations—giving you the knowledge to make informed decisions on your path to parenthood. Don't miss this deep dive into one of the most important (yet often misunderstood) aspects of fertility care!More about our guest speaker: Meaghan Doyle, MS, CGC (she/her) is a Certified Genetic Counselor and Founder of DNAide Genetic Counselling. She started her fertility genetics career as a genetic counsellor at a fertility clinic in Ontario. It was there that she recognized that most fertility clinics don't have genetic counsellors on staff, and that patients were being let down without access to these important members of their care team. She founded DNAide Genetic Counselling to help make access to fertility genetic counsellors more accessible to patients and clinicians. Meaghan has expertise in Preimplantation Genetic Testing, mosaicism in embryos, and genetic causes of infertility. She is passionate about helping fertility patients by providing them with evidence-based information and ensuring that they are fully supported to make decisions that will be best for them and their families. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Genetics and Psychology from the University of Toronto and her Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from Arcadia University in Philadelphia.Website: https://www.dnaide.com/Instagram (Professional): https://www.instagram.com/meaghandoylegc/Instagram (Business): https://www.instagram.com/dnaidegc/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/DNAide-Genetic-Counselling/100078857473052/If you or your organization would like to sponsor educational episodes just like this, please contact us at podcast@fertilitymatters.ca. Growing up in “horse country” afforded her the privilege of beginning to ride from the tender age of four. It was a childhood illness, which brought her riding aspirations to an abrupt halt. It took twenty years before she was able to reunite with her long lost passion for horses and their ability to heal. In that time, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communication from Arcadia University and became a twice two hundred hour certified yoga instructor in both Hatha and Vinyasa. Now playing professionally overseas, in Ireland, Da'Kquan still is looking to grow his stock. Hear about how growing up in Philly impacted his career, what went into his dominance at Arcadia, and the biggest adjustments he's had to make to his game playing Division 1 and now professionally. This episode is available wherever you listen to podcasts. In this episode of the Postural Restoration Podcast I am joined by Frank Mallon, PT, DPT, PRC. Frank grew up in the Philadelphia area and attended Physical Therapy school at Arcadia University. Although he has had many unique experiences in his home state he has remained there ever since. One of the biggest influences on his early career was the work of Shirley Sahrmann. In his first clinical setting, alongside one of his earliest mentors, Carl Mangione, they were able to implement these concepts with their patients and also share them in the university settings to others interested. Franks first years as a PT in this setting allowed him to explore other schools of thought that otherwise had not been introduced throughout his schooling.Through this relationship, Frank was first introduced to PRI coursework and the science as a whole. In 2013 he took his first course, Pelvis Restoration, with Jennifer Poulin. After implementing what he had learned and seeing enough change within his patient population he knew additional coursework was merited. Over the next several years Frank attended many PRI courses, traveling from city to city to immerse himself more. Two years from his first course exposure Frank achieved his Postural Restoration Certified (PRC) credential with the intent of providing a true form of PRI to his patients no matter what setting he may be in. Eventually finding himself directing various programs in the hospital setting he became more limited in the amount of freedom he had to incorporate all PRI aspects into his patient care. However overtime in this role he was able to introduce the science to his patients and other providers within this orthopedic hospital setting. Like many within our community, Frank at one point needed integrative care for himself, and found himself seeking that out through the PRIME Program here in Lincoln. This experience solidified his desire to be able to offer similar services in his area of Philadelphia. Over time Frank began building an Integrative team of many varying professionals within the fields of dentistry, optometry, and other modalities to begin building a network of integrative care. This style of interdisciplinary care, would eventually lead him to start a private practice to be able to offer services and incorporate integrative care in a more meaningful way. Frank has since built Renaissance Physical Therapy & Wellness into a practice that allows him to do just that. Incorporating PRI with every client and working closely with multiple disciplines to address dysfunctions across many systems as a holistic team. Renaissance Physical Therapy is available in 5 locations around the Philly metro, and beyond offering his clinical services, Frank stays very active in the community by educating others on the role they too can have as part of a team approach to neurological re-patterning.In this episode we discuss some of the challenges that providers may face when first learning to implement the science of Postural Restoration, and the effort it takes to build relationships with integrative professionals in your own community while appreciating the power of doing so. PRI communities are not formed over night and Franks journey is a testament to the commitment and dedication required to be able to offer a truly integrative approach to those in your own communities.

In Part 2 of this series, Drumm McNaughton, F. Joseph Merlino, and Deborah Pomeroy dive deeper into the strategies and approaches for driving transformative change in higher education, focusing on preparing teachers for the 21st century. They share valuable insights and real-world examples drawn from their extensive research and practical experiences. Key Discussion Points Change Theory and the Process of Change: ·       Understanding change theory and the process of change is crucial for driving transformative change in higher education. ·       Change must be driven by a meaningful purpose owned by all stakeholders. ·       Transformative change takes time, requires support, space for experimentation, and acceptance of mistakes as part of the learning process. Aligning Change with Core Identity, Mission, and Legacy: ·       Ensuring that the desired change aligns with the institution's core identity, mission, and legacy is vital for successful transformation. ·       The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) serves as an excellent example of aligning change with core identity and mission. The Role of Service Learning in Pedagogy and Research: ·       Service learning plays a crucial role in transforming teacher preparation programs and enhancing both pedagogy and research. ·       Partnerships between universities and high schools reveal a rich, reciprocal relationship where professors learn as much from teachers as teachers learn from them. ·       Service learning enriches research, enabling professors to explore new ideas and change their conceptual frameworks within and across disciplines. Rethinking Tenure and Promotion: ·       The traditional allocation of weight in tenure and promotion may need to be reconsidered to address changing demographics and challenges in higher education. ·       Recognizing the importance of faculty engagement with the community and the potential for service learning to enhance both pedagogy and research. Bridging the Gap Between High School and Higher Education: ·       Collaborating with high school teachers to develop critical thinking skills and willingness to engage with novel problems among incoming students. ·       Aligning with the findings from the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) studies on employer expectations for essential life skills. ·       Learning from the example of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, in bridging the gap between high school and higher education. The Importance of External Facilitators in the Change Process: ·       The role of external facilitators in providing a neutral perspective, navigating institutional dynamics, and lending credibility to the change process. ·       The value of a presidential onboarding process conducted by an external facilitator for presidents appointed from outside the institution. Three Key Takeaways for University Presidents and Boards: ·       Understand change theory and the process of change, recognizing that change must be driven by a meaningful purpose owned by all stakeholders. ·       Ensure that the change aligns with the institution's core identity, mission, and legacy. ·       Navigate the challenges of establishing networks and building trust, whether appointed from within the institution or coming from the outside. The insights shared in this two-part series serve as a valuable guide for university presidents, boards, and executive leadership seeking to drive meaningful change in higher education.   Read the transcript on our website: https://changinghighered.com/transformative-change-models-in-higher-ed-p2/   About Our Podcast Guests F. Gia-Raquel Rose, owner of Airs Above Yoga, LLC and a real estate sales associate in Tewksbury, New Jersey has had a love for horses stemming from early childhood.
