Относно речевото изразяване препоръчваме и документалния филм "Do I Sound Gay?".
Alex Levy is ultra important to the RMP, as he is our first gay guest and member of our Fire Circle Community. His sexual orientation has given him a unique and valuable glimpse into masculine culture. Regardless of our identities, there are areas in our lives where we feel inadequate and shame for not fitting in. Alex shatters those illusions, and reminds us that every expression and iteration of Man is equally respected. We also cover common misconceptions about gay men, the importance of being rock solid in our core beliefs, and advice on creating safe environments for open expression. Show Notes: The damaging effects of using words like “gay” in a condescending or hurtful manner Why men fear being thought of as gay, bisexual, or anything besides hetero The healing potential of men's work, especially when dealing with wounds dealt by other men Sometimes trauma's are so repressed that we don't even know they are there Straight men subconsciously believe that if they even spend time with gay men, they will be perceived as feminine, weak, or gay. Pop culture and the media's role in how we perceive the LGBTQA community “Do I Sound Gay?” - documentary recommended by Alex How do we create an environment where gay men feel free to express and be their true selves? Alex shares his story about simultaneously dealing with health issues and diving into shadow work Common misconceptions that straight men hold towards gay men How being solid in your core beliefs will greatly relieve resistance Connect with Alex: Instagram @alexlevy_intuitive Website: Alexlevyonline.com for info about his intuitive readings, spiritual life coaching, and more! Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi and William Thrasher discuss Superman 4: The Quest for Peace to round out their look at the Christopher Reeve Superman films. Frustrated by humanity's refusal to rid the world of atomic weapons, Superman (Christopher Reeve) decides to take care of the problem himself. A side effect of chucking nuclear missiles into the sun is the creation of Nuclear Man (Mark Pillow). Meanwhile, Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) pursues a relationship with Lacy Warfield (Mariel Hemingway). Can our hero stop Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) from creating an army of evil Nuclear Men? Mat enjoys David Thorpe's documentary Do I Sound Gay? but finds it too scattershot in its overall theme. He also wraps up Season 1 of Star Trek Discovery and finds its final scene to be too cute for its own good. Thrasher enjoys the brief Netflix series The Toys That Made Us on such popular action figure lines as He-Man, Barbie, and the like; turns out it's getting a second season. He also watches the legendary gorefest Bloodfeast directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis. Listen to this episode while stealing a strand of Superman's hair for maximum enjoyment. Sarah recently watched the film "Do I Sound Gay" about the history, origins, and motivations behind the way gay men (in particular) talk. Is the "gay voice" even a thing, an affectation, or something gay folks are born with? We also discuss a recent emoji study about the way emojis act as language, and why linguistic scholars are debating their role. Plus, we talk about the English language and some funky things we never noticed. Why Disney makes their villains sound gay, and a prediction Sarah's mom made about her baby. Also, Susie has a bone to pick with Sarah.
This week Richard and Stan talk about election season (surprised?), what made Richard cancel his NYTimes subscription; negligence vs. corruption; ABC and BBC; whether education makes people more liberal (where are all our educated conservatives? seriously—call/write in); Facebook trolling (the saga never ends); the “NPR black republican gay Trump high schooler”; DO I SOUND GAY? (the documentary); codeswitching, gayface, and how Richard hates fashion; how all gay slurs were slurs against women first (even f*gg*t); Kathy Baldock's book Walking the Bridgeless Canyon; how all words come from Greek (and Richard runs to get some Windex); how Stan needs someone to introduce him to Bridget Jones; and then… someone knocks on Richard's door… and we fear he may have been #Taken.
Do I sound gay? Gay and straight men alike (and those totally visible bi guys inbetween) have asked themselves this for decades. It is typically a shameful question most frequently queried inside our own heads. Filmmaker David Thorpe made a documentary, Do I Sound Gay?, to explore the stereotypically gay "accent" and the shame that surrounds it. This episode puts the 'th' in 'fabulous'—and doesn't give a rat's ass who hearsth it! David Thorpe's documentary Do I Sound Gay?, featuring Dan Savage, Don Lemon, and David Sedaris, is now streaming on Netflix. After a bad break-up, Thorpe became self-conscious (again) about his effeminate gay voice. He visits prominent gay celebrities, speech therapists, and old friends to explore why homosexuals typically talk like this and the shame that surrounds such an innate part of a human being—their voice. Also, we talk about dating difficulties and how worry is wasted on the youth. Bullying is a problem so many children face. LGBT kids then have one more reason to be concerned on the playground. We discuss our histories with bullying and homophobic slurs. We also ask, "What's up?" with the sexism amongst gay men who won't date femme dudes. I was on some podcasts again! There are three very different jars of jelly on the shelf this week, and one man has his finger in every jar. That man's name is Judd Apatow. In addition to directing Amy Schumer in the week's big comedy, "Trainwreck," he's also the bro master behind half of Paul Rudd's movies (Rudd stars this week in "Ant-Man"); and on top of that, he's one of the earliest directors to cast Emma Stone (who, this week, is in Woody Allen's new film, "Irrational Man"). Rafer and Kristen review every jelly jar, and get help with one jar in particular, from Scott Rosenberg, the comic book enthusiast who knows all things Marvel. They also sit down with David Thorpe, director of the new documentary, "Do I Sound Gay?" The film examines the so-called gay voice - including its theorized origins and role in personal and social identity. All that, plus trivia!
Cathy and Todd discuss speech patterns, specifically discussing the new documentary Do I Sound Gay? by filmmaker David Thorpe. They also discuss the phenomenon of “upspeak” and how those who use it may not be taken seriously, and why the Kardashian voice or “vocal fry” is not only challenging on the ears, but also the vocal cords.
