What was billed as Joe Biden's first post-presidential speech, turned out to be a disaster. However, the mainstream media, most namely the Wallstreet Journal, is still running cover for him, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today's edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In His Own Words:”   “But my point is this the Wall Street Journal headline was that he attacks Trump, accuses him of cutting Social Security. And the article said that [Biden] looked ‘rested.'   “That was just a complete distortion. And when you start looking every single day, as I'm doing, if it's tariffs, it's a disaster. If it's DOGE, it's a disaster. If it's Ukraine, Trump is doing something wrong, he's favored Putin too much. It's a disaster.   “Everything. If it's the mistakenly deported Mr. Garcia, there's no background about who Mr. Garcia really is. It's a disaster. Almost every article it's like an itch or a twitch—is negative, negative, negative, negative.”

This has been a conversation I've been eagerly looking forward to sharing with you for weeks... It is arguably the most important discussion I've published to date on the subject of leading your relationships and sustaining the fire within them. I have the great honor to be inviting Justin Patrick Pierce back on the podcast, this time alongside his wife, Londin Angel Winters. The first podcast I recorded with Justin quickly became the most downloaded episode of the show and, as I see it, served as a powerful declaration of the importance for us as men to bring awareness to how we are showing up in our intimate relationships and how we can sustain desire over the long run Today's episode continues that conversation and goes even deeper into one essential question: What does it take to sustain depth, intimacy, and fire in a long-term, committed monogamous relationship? Before coming together for this conversation, I took time to reflect on the subject of desire, which can still feel somehwhat elusive and complex. Up until a few years ago, I myself couldn't articulate what truly awakened my desire for someone—or what repelled it. I was also unaware of what creates the "neutrality" so many couples find themselves in over time. For the sake of providing answers on the subject of what creates neutrality and how we can be liberated in our desires, I have structured our conversation together around the framework used by Justin and Londin in their most recent book, Playing with Fire The episode today will be a continuation of my first conversation with Justin, so if you're unfamiliar with teachings of polarity, their book Playing with Fire, or their use of terms like “Alpha,” “Omega,” “Seer,” and “Feeler,” my encouragement is to listen to my first conversation with Justin as it lays a strong foundation for these teachings and the ideas we explore today. In the realm of polarity, sacred intimacy, and welcoming relationships as a ground for spiritual growth, I hold few individuals in higher regard than Justin and Londin. Together, they lead a business, write, teach, and live as householders, while also raising their daughter, Eva, and remaining committed to sustaining the fire of their relationship—16 years strong. My deepest hope is that this conversation leaves you with a clearer understanding of the foundational pillars that make relationships thrive, along with tools to support your own journey of love and intimacy. Through the troubles in Hosea's home, he reached the consciousness of his calling. Hosea married Gomer in good faith, but her unfaithfulness and ultimate enslavement broke the heart of her husband. Gomer's adultery pictured Israel's apostasy. The story of Hosea's home life sets the stage for understanding God's relationship with His people. The prophet, through the heartbreak of his own marriage, comes to see in a more meaningful way Israel's sin against God. The Lord's message for each one of us is the message of His love and our responsibility.

The Transforming Power of Love Part One

When we talk about being transformed, we're talking about something very strong. It's not a word to throw around because it means a real change in our nature or character or appearance. It signifies a turning point, something permanent, not temporary. So, what would you identify as the transformational points in your life? What person or situation or event has made a truly significant difference in your life—for the better? If you think carefully about it, my guess is that the transformational points in your life came as a result of love. Love has the power to transform us. For example, getting to know Jesus and accepting his gift of salvation certainly transforms our nature, doesn't it? The Bible says we become new creations in Christ; the new has come, the old has gone. The love of God transforms us like no other love ever could. No wonder John 3:16 is the favorite verse in the Bible for many people. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. It's because of this incredible love we can have eternal life. I love the old hymn that begins “Loved with everlasting love, led by grace that love to know.” And then ends by declaring, “In a love that will not cease, I am his and he is mine.” (George Wade Robinson, “Loved with Everlasting Love,” 1838-1877). Knowing I am the one Jesus loves has transformed me. How about you? I simply can't get through that hymn without tears of joy just knowing how God—the God of all the universe—loves me. Love is transformational. There's no doubt about it. Have you been transformed by the power of the love of Jesus? Have you accepted his free gift of salvation by confessing your sins and believing that he is the Son of God who paid the price for your sin, because he loves you? If not, there is no doubt you have an empty space inside of you that is love-starved for Jesus, and I would urge you even today to simply confess your sins to him and accept the love he offers. It is God's love for us that transforms us, and then, it is our privilege and responsibility to share that love with others. Romans 5:5 tells us that God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. When we are born into God's family through faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us, and he simply pours God's love into our hearts. Then, when we have received God's unconditional love, we are admonished throughout Scripture to love as we have been loved by God. John 13:34- 35: A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. Romans 12:10: Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Matthew 22:37- 39: Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' Is there someone in your life right now who is trouble for you? Could be a co-worker or a boss, a child or a mate, a friend or foe. You know what they need? Love. I know—they're probably not very lovable right now, but that doesn't change the fact that they need love! What could you do today to show love to that person—undeserved, unconditional love? Maybe it's a phone call or a note or a gift or a listening ear. Maybe it's a lack of criticism and condemnation, a willingness to love them as they are, in their unlovable condition. But here's the roadblock we often encounter: How can you love someone when you don't feel it? How can you show love when someone isn't loving you back; when they are not lovable; when they may not deserve your love? Well, this is where God's love in us has to kick in, and the good news is, love—God's kind of love—is expressed in actions, not necessarily in feelings.

Dr. Mike Bullmore, Senior Pastor of CrossWay Community Church in Bristol, Wisconsin, preaches from Romans 8, live from the 2024 RBM Conference. We live in a broken world of pervasive futility, and all of our lives are marked by varying degrees of hardship. Even so, Dr. Bullmore urges us to remember that the suffering of this time does not compare to the joy and glory that are to come. God wants us to be living—day by day—in the good of his steadfast, unfailing, and everlasting love. Dr. Bullmore shares how Romans 8 will help us live like Christians in this fallen world.
