The 2020 Red Sox season has officially begun and they lost a series to the Orioles...not great. Today we talk where things went wrong this weekend, Martin Perez and Dylan Covey being expectedly awful, what happened with Eovaldi having two different jersey numbers during his impressive Opening Day start, why we can all be cautiously optimistic about Alex Verdugo's potential on this club, what the hell has been up with these lineups, Jose Iglesias being too good to be as available as he's been recently, what it would be like if Clay Buchholz returned to the Sox rotation, why sitting Xander Bogaerts to start the 2nd game of this short season is insanely moronic, hoping E-Rod makes a full recovery soon, the obvious reason why Roenicke doesn't want to use his challenges, the weird vibe on Lansdowne Street and we close with your phenomenal Down in the DM questions. Enjoy!
In the second hour of Red Sox review we get into your calls about mistakes Roenicke has made so far with Benny in the lead off spot, as well as the decision of Dylan Covey coming into a 5-2 game. See omnystudio.com/policies/listener for privacy information.

The Rundown: * White Sox win two out of three in Detroit as Carlos Rodon pitched eight strong innings, Lucas Giolito avoids disaster, and Jose Abreu keeps hitting. * Moving forward as Matt Davidson is hitting as many home runs since July 1st (just three), how will the White Sox handle playing time for Nicky Delmonico, Daniel Palka, and Matt Davidson in 2019? * Preview the White Sox vs. Royals series. Could we see Michael Kopech this weekend? If not, is this the last straw for Dylan Covey as a starting pitcher on Saturday if he suffers another poor start? * Looking at a big weekend of series with postseason implications, we share our favorites to come out ahead, and if teams like the Athletics and Braves generate hope that the White Sox could have a breakout season soon. Presented by SeatGeek
Guest: Scott Merkin, MLB.com The Rundown: * MLB.com's Scott Merkin joins the show to share the latest out of the White Sox clubhouse. Presented by SeatGeek
The Rundown: * Carlos Rodon was brilliant against the St. Louis Cardinals as he sequenced his fastball, changeup, and slider well for 7.1 scoreless innings. We ponder if the changeup will be the difference between a very good Carlos Rodon, and future All-Star Carlos Rodon. * Dylan Covey didn't have anything near the success Rodon did. Should Sox fans begin to lose hope that Covey can't hold up as a starting pitcher? * The DL list continues to pile up for the Sox with Micker Adolfo and now Miguel Gonzalez out with surgeries. * Preview the upcoming series against the Kansas City Royals.
Good morning. Here's what's in your White Sox Wake-Up Call: * LAST NIGHT: The Cardinals beat up Dylan Covey the second time through, then piled it on against the bullpen in a 14-2 stomping. * TONIGHT: Carlos Rodon vs. Luke Weaver, with an off day afterward. * ON THE FARM: So many injury updates, including a big one for Micker Adolfo. * AROUND THE LEAGUE: All-Star roster alterations, Home Run Derby lineups and Manny Machado's market.

The Rundown: * White Sox end up losing two out of three as Dylan Covey collapsed in the fourth inning. Good news - Yoan Moncada hit his 11th home run of 2018 and Avisail Garcia extended his hitting streak to 14 games. * Tonight's starting pitching matchup is Carlos Rodon vs. Justin Verlander. Hopefully, the White Sox score more than two runs in this series against the Astros. * Down in the minors, Charlotte wins thanks to outstanding bullpen work from Aaron Bummer and Ian Hamilton. Winston-Salem Dash score 14 runs after the fifth inning, but lose Blake Rutherford to injury. * Around Major League Baseball, the Oakland A's are now a season-best nine games above .500 as they remain within striking distance of the Seattle Mariners for the last playoff spot.
White Sox pitcher Dylan Covey comes on the podcast and opens up to Chuck Garfien about his battle with diabetes, a disease that almost ended his life in 2010. He talks about his struggles last season, admitting "I wasn't ready for the major leagues," and explains why he's a better pitcher now because of it. Covey discusses what it was like being left unprotected by the Oakland A's, coming over to the White Sox in the Rule 5 draft, getting a second chance with the White Sox, beating Chris Sale at Fenway Park and much more.
Let's start with the TEX-KC game for some offense, but we can certainly look beyond that game to find hitters we like. Heath and Mike are back to get your DFS week started on the right foot as we wonder if the Rockies can knock Jacob deGrom around, if Dylan Covey is due for a bad start, if Andrew Suarez is the cheap SP we need in our lineups and much more. A lot of rankings on today's show, but first let's tell you about an awesome and mostly anonymous RP you can add (1:15) and how we're feeling about Dylan Covey (2:24). Then we're ranking rookies (8:26) in seasonal and dynasty formats, ranking aces (14:55) and ranking RPs (18:00) ... Adam is forced to have another Greg Bird argument (27:12) as we talk about some lineup notes from around MLB, then we tell you which hitters (34:15) and pitchers (36:41) are overowned. Rafael Devers? Jake Lamb? Nick Pivetta? Sonny Gray?... Scott and Heath give us some rankings risers (39:12) such as Ross Stripling and John Hicks and rankings fallers (43:45) including Josh Donaldson. We also react to yesterday's SP performances (48:40) and then the Fantasy Regulators (54:15) are back to lay down the law ... Recorded: 05/25/2017 Presented by SeatGeek We recap the Arizona Diamondbacks series as Jose Abreu and Leury Garcia were great, but not so much for Jose Quintana who after 10 starts really needs to improve his play. With a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers, Tyler Danish will be making his first start in 2017. Dylan Covey is still ailing from his injury, so is it time to start seeing the young guns like Reynaldo Lopez and Carson Fulmer?
DFSR’s Doug Norrie and James Davis sit down for a face-to-face podcast discussing a full Tuesday in baseball. Clearly the biggest question today is whether or not to pay up for Clayton Kershaw. He’s seen the strikeouts dip some this season and is still very expensive. The reason we can possibly pivot off of Kershaw is Lance McCullers who’s in a great spot today against the righty-heavy Tigers. He’s a big money line favorite and has put up excellent numbers this season. They also discuss cheaper options like Joe Ross, German Marquez and Matt Shoemaker. On the stacks side of the ball the obvious choice is the Diamondbacks who get a dream matchup against Dylan Covey. He’s one of the worst pitchers in baseball and they have the highest implied run line on the day (and it’s not particularly close). Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
