Anika and Liz stumble through a series of alternate universes, including the one where we like "A Tribble Called Quest" and the one where we're good at podcasting and don't go off on long tangents about shipping. He's big, he's bad, and he's got a plan to take over the world that would have worked, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids! The Evil Overlord is the quintessential villain trope, and as such, there are a lot of really bad examples of it out there. Don't be another cautionary tale of an Evil Overlord gone wrong—listen to this episode and write a convincing big bad! Or at least join us as we tear apart your favorite villains and try very hard not to reveal our secret plans to take over the world. You know, the usual.

After a poor attempt at an introduction, Kelly is brought in to help out, then Bruce the Mailboy and the Evil Overlord recount the fun they had with Hard Part in downtown Toronto. Next up is some excellent reporting from the S-Scale convention in beautiful Buffalo, New York. Finally, we visit the World Scanning Championships in Reading, Pennsylvania with three-time scanning champion Kevin Marks. It's an action-packed podcast that's sure to bring a smile to your face with plenty of opportunity for introspective look at why raccoons prefer to be night owls.
In this week's show, we discuss Heartland Express buying CFI, 6 pre- and post-trip inspection myths, another case the Supreme Court ignored, preparing for automated trucks, new services for truckers, and much, much, more. In the listener feedback segment, we've got some follow-up on that AB5 video from the OOIDA Foundation, and I have another idiot commenting on my tailgating article. In the intro, I share stories of The Evil Overlord's wreck and a musical hotel. Three billionaires are currently in a race to get to space, of course there's nothing more pressing to the people of earth right now than to have the news spend a Sunday morning talking about it. In a time when people are having trouble paying for healthcare or a house, we have the news giving us commercials for something only rich people can do. It's conflicting, because while space exploration is important, this is such a weird time for this to happen. When we have a cracked system from the pandemic it's Virgins vs Amazons dominating the Sunday news cycle. But hey! With any luck, a petition to keep at least one of the evil overlords in space could help us out, right? Meanwhile, on the ground people are still fighting science. Both with the vaccine to bring the pandemic to its knees or the fact that half of the US is on fire because of climate change. Lewis is considering turning the articles he reads about it in to his act, just a reading the facts to get chuckles. The rants this week continue to explore people's anger toward what it means to act like an American and degradation of what it means to fly the flag these days. The simple lack of respect people have when it comes to returning a shipping cart where they belong. The growing disdain for how bosses are treating their employees, whether it be blue collar work or on the healthcare frontlines; one in particular hitting Lewis personally as it relates to care for the elderly. A military vet who feels the current military has become soft. Ending with a rant about how the politicization of the COVID vaccines have divided families. Here at the ol' AML Network, there's two things we always strive to achieve, hard hitting journalism, and ignore the facts whenever possible. So when the Evil Overlord visited Rapido Trains, it seemed only fitting to get the scoop on Jason Shron's crack team of model slingin' miracle workers. It's a whistle stop tour of the folks behind the scenes at Rapido, we get the lowdown on how Janet, Joshua, Jordan & Dan arrived at Rapido and what the hobby means to them. So grab yourself a big bowl of shredded scale model flyers, a hot steaming mug of gearbox oil and enjoy!!
There's a huge range of managers and owners, from the Evil Overlord to the People Pleaser. Strap in, it's not gonna be pretty.....but seriously, they're not all bad. Are they? Of course not. There's nothing like getting emotional when making a podcast especially when it involves the AML Nation and model railroading. It was kind of a nothing day around HQ so many of the staff were sent home with enough sushi to last at least until dinner time. Some days you're just not feeling it and putting it into words can be the quickest remedy to getting back on track. So here's some words of wisdom from the man with his very own cubicle on the 48th floor of the Stewart L. Sterling building. This podcast is best enjoyed with a large plate of week old gas station sushi and some left over Yuengling.
This episode we're joined by Sarah Jean Horwitz to talk about her new book The Dark Lord Clementine. The new face of big evil is a little . . . small. Dastardly deeds aren’t exactly the first things that come to mind when one hears the name “Clementine,” but as the sole heir of the infamous Dark Lord Elithor, twelve-year-old Clementine Morcerous has been groomed since birth to be the best (worst?) Evil Overlord she can be. But everything changes the day the Dark Lord Elithor is cursed by a mysterious rival. Now, Clementine must not only search for a way to break the curse, but also take on the full responsibilities of the Dark Lord. As Clementine forms her first friendships, discovers more about her own magic than she ever dared to explore, and is called upon to break her father’s code of good and evil, she starts to question the very life she’s been fighting for. What if the Dark Lord Clementine doesn’t want to be dark after all? Connect with Booked All Night: Twitter . I have two topics for you today. First is a review of the AeroPress coffee maker and then I ponder how much luck has a part in keeping a safe driving record. I also discuss the often false advertising of the term "Million Miler." Links mentioned in the podcast: TD78: A Trucker's Thanksgiving was my last Thanksgiving-themed podcast. It is also one of my favorite podcast episodes. The snark meter goes off the charts! I reluctantly discuss the 2016 presidential election and the results. Yeesh. What a mess. Since the election was so depressing in general, I went over to Singsnap.com and recorded a few songs. Have at it if you want to hear me butcher some perfectly good songs. I came across another idiot truck driver recently. I tell the story and mention TD66: Trucker's Go Turtle Racing. Scalebuster is a new app that tells you if the scales are open. You can also report any surprise inspections you run across. The new myPilot app has a couple of cool features but one of them doesn't always work. I did a review of the AeroPress coffee maker. It will probably help if you watch the short AeroPress video first. AeroPress store locator and authorized seller list. I asked you guys to weigh in on me starting a Facebook page. I share the results and mention Buck from The Trucking Podcast along the way. I started a new Slack group for Trucker Dump listeners! Request an invite by emailing me at TruckerDump@gmail.com with the subject line: Slack. Of course, the iTruckers Slack group is still as active as ever too. It's more for truckers who are Apple enthusiasts. Request an invite by emailing Trucker Bob at iTruckers@iCloud.com. And thanks to Shannon who is @holden657 on Twitter for drawing in a few more members by promoting the iTruckers Slack group on the Today in iOS podcast. See a photo of the minor damage I caused to another truck. I mention my two podcasts about truck driver complacency, TD97: A Trucker's Worst Nemesis: Complacency and TD104: Complacency Strikes. The Evil Overlord gets another mention. This time it's because of the way she drives in parking lots. If you've truly never had a driving accident or incident of any kind, I'd love to hear from you. Email me at TruckerDump@gmail.com. I tell a story from my book, Trucking Life: An Entertaining, Yet Informative Guide To Becoming And Being A Truck Driver, about preventable/nonpreventable accidents. I include an excerpt from the book. In the feedback section: Jagdeep Singh asks about starting a trucking career and Chad Case asks whether he should keep driving local or go over-the-road. While we're all casting our votes for villains anyways, we discuss which video game/anime villains we would want to rule the world. We also react to Bethesda's pre-release game policy, and we mourn the passing of Vine. We finally get a date for the full Nintendo Switch announcement, and we get E-Sports while we react to the League of Legends world championship. Fire up the bass cannon, and prepare to fire. In today's podcast, I review the weBoost Drive 4G-X OTR cell signal booster from Wilson Electronics. Links in the podcast: Check out my new ebook/audiobook called Trucking Life and get some free samples of both the audio and text versions. @Holden657 was kind enough to leave reviews of Trucking Life on both Amazon and the iBooks Store. 35-year driver Daniel S. Bridger reviewed Trucking Life on his Trucking Blog. Todd Dills from OverdriveOnline.com also wrote an excellent review of Trucking Life. Youssef from KnowTrucking.com wrote in to tell us about their free practice CDL tests. Billy from Trutrux told us about his new website that sells truck, ATV, boat, camping, outdoor gear & cool stuff. I mention shows I've been watching, including Arrow, Flash, Agents of Shield, and Downton Abbey, which is sort of a spin-off of the movie, Gosford Park. Non-trucker Jeremy wrote in to ask about exercise as a trucker. I put him off so I could do a whole podcast about it. I mentioned my workout video calledTD81: How To Do A Full-Body Workout Inside The Cab Of A Semi. Please send in your questions and suggestions for this future podcast by sending them to TruckerDump@gmail.com. If you're an Apple-loving tech junkie, please consider joining the iTruckers Slack group by sending an email to iTruckers@iCloud.com. Photos in the article can be found on the website. John of The John And Jade Show did an excellent video review of the weBoost Drive 4G-X OTR, including an installation guide and lots of geeky signal strength testing. Nerds UNITE! In the feedback section: Intermission music by The Offspring George sent another audio clip, but I'm not going to play it because I'm going to do a whole podcast about it later on. Sorry George! Steve from TommyJohn.com listened to TD93: The Driver's Seat Phenomenon and wrote in to talk about a sensitive subject… underwear! Long Duck writes in to talk about his Sonar elogs, lane preference, and he gloats a bit because he's figured out who I work for. In the meantime, I wonder why anyone even cares. David listened to TD56: Funkin' Trucking' and believes that driver funk is directly related to driver fatigue. He also gives us a tip on removing ice from your wipers while driving. This prompts me to mention listener Greg's recommendation of the Slushbuster back in TD110: Jabbering With Jared. He also admits to being a solar driver which I discussed way back in TD53:Lunar Driving As A Trucker. Along the way, David mentions the 48 Days Podcast from Dan Miller. Bryce read TD100: What Makes The Evil Overlord Evil? and tells a funny story about his own Evil Overlord. Well, I came up blank for a topic this time, so that's bad. What's good is it means that it's a perfect time to catch up on all the feedback from you guys (and gals). But before we get to the feedback, I ramble on about boring stuff like I usually do. Topics and links mentioned in the podcast: I was a guest on The Trucking Podcast. We had a blast talking about all kinds of stuff, so please check it out. Look for episode 108. Who doesn't like to hear about another person's aches and pains? No one… right? Right? Tough noogies. I open the show with my kidney stone woes. Good times. More in the complaint department, I whine a bit about the crappy Internet at my new home. Of course, everyone loves to hear a trucker bitch about trying to get home. Well I don't disappoint with the story of my emotional rollercoaster ride trying to get home for Christmas. I'm also looking for listener's input on whether being called a "Trucker Dumper" is insulting or just plain funny. I ask because Buck and Don over at The Trucking Podcast are having a heck of time finding a name for their audience that doesn't piss someone off. Listener Trucker Bob and I recently announced a new Slack community called iTruckers. It's basically a place for Apple fanboys (or fangirls) to get together online to talk about their love of Apple gear and services. So if you're a trucker who owns an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, iPod, or maybe you want to own one or have questions about them, please click the link to read about joining the iTruckers Slack group. Or you can email Trucker Bob directly at iTruckers@iCloud.com to receive an invite. Truckers or related fields only please! I mention current iTruckers members @holden657, @darkstaff, and @driverchrismc. In the Feedback section: Greg @riverratwa57 sends another audio comment about how he stays safe in the truck. He mentions his wife carries a lipstick body guard and a flashlight stun gun with spikes. Ouch! If you're interested, I shared my thoughts about carrying weapons in the truck back in TD110: Jabbering With Jared. Lester @amishtrucker shares a quick thought about the stuff I talk about on the podcast. Long Duck @longduck71 listened to TD108: 4 Reasons Truckers Get The Hazmat Endorsement and disagrees. Denver left a comment on my Jobshadow.com interview asking for some general advice on getting into trucking. If you don't want to read the article, I turned it into a podcast in TD102: What's It Like To Be A Trucker? Another audio comment from Greg @riverratwa57 discusses technology in trucking and I out The Evil Overlord as being horrible with location awareness. I also share my skepticism about dash cameras. What's your experience with dash cams? Write in or send an audio comment on the subject to TruckerDump@gmail.com. An anonymous emailer read TD57: Really? A Good Dispatcher? and leaves a smart aleck remark. Because that's what annoying people do. Chib is a non-trucker who listened to TD95: 4 Reasons That Trucker Might Be Tailgating You and had a few thoughts to share about why I'm wrong. I also point him to TD66: Truckers Go Turtle Racing to prove to him I'm not part of the problem with slow truckers trying to pass other slow trucks. Vic writes in to try to enter the Trucker Country CD giveaway courtesy of Eric McMann @erichmcmann, but he was a bit too late. He did suggest some future topics and according to his email, he's probably a trucker by now. Yeah! Ken listened to TD109: Coping With Rookie Truckers, but it was talking about electronic logs in the feedback section that prompted him to weave a tale about a trucker and big brother. Long Duck @longduck71 tells a tale of his truck breaking down and he talks about blind side backing. Isaac works for an insurance company and read either TD97: A Trucker's Worst Nemesis: Complacency or TD104: Complacency Strikes and asked three questions to get a better understanding of the trucking world. The R & J Trucker Blog was kind enough to include Trucker Dump in their list of 10 Trucking Blogs Every New Trucker Should Read. Roger hops on board with his pet peeve about 4-wheelers. Lastly, J went for a new world record for shortest Trucker Dump comment. He wins. How's that for a title? Yes, you read that correctly. Today we discuss 4 reasons truckers don't have butts. In today's foray into the trucking world, we discuss stupid rules that shippers/receivers make to torment truckers. You'll learn what precautions these companies take to avoid accidents and I'll tear them into shreds for being too stinkin' paranoid. There are lots of fun links for you to click today. Nearly every time I call my wife and ex-codriver "The Evil Overlord," someone accuses me of being an exaggerator. Well, this post ought to plug everyone's pieholes. Listen on to find out "What Makes The Evil Overlord… Evil?" In the feedback section we talk about the likelihood of a new driver getting a truck with an automatic transmission and we discuss if their is any way to get around the DOT's rules about driving with a disability. In today's episode, guest poster Sam Fisher, who works for Teletrac, a GPS Fleet Tracking Solution, gives us some helpful tips on how to get good rest while sleeping in your truck. And of course, I can't keep my ginormous trap shut so I weigh in with some advice of my own, including things The Evil Overlord (the wife/ex-codriver) does to make things more comfortable in the truck. I also provide proof that The Evil Overlord... actually is. Got a second to Rate and/or Review the podcast? Download the intro/outro songs for free! courtesy of Walking On Einstein.
In today's podcast I discuss the city of Dallas and what it's like to spend the night at a truck stop in any urban area; where parking issues, junkies, and lot lizards abound. What? Don't know what a lot lizard is? Guess you better get to listening then. I also get nostalgic about Dallas as I talk about my early married life with The Evil Overlord, including our elopement, Metallica's skyscraper rooftop house, and someone's first visit to a gay bar. And for some odd reason, I link to Jeff Gordon, who as far as I know has nothing to do with gay bars. Got a second to Rate and/or Review the podcast? This is one of those times I go off-topic. Trucking does rear its butt-ugly head, but not very often. Today I get to tell you why The Evil Overlord and I rarely feel the need to say the words "I love you." And if you're cool, you might want to see a picture of my awesome Transformers TV tray. I don't think I've ever been quite so mad in my trucking career than when I was writing this blog post. Luckily, by the time I got around to recording the podcast version, I'd managed to regain my Fonzie-like coolness. So what prompted this rage? Some of the stupid rules truckers are forced to comply with, especially us team drivers. Trust me, no one is ever happy when The Evil Overlord's sleep gets disturbed. Today I tell a story of a run-in we had with the wonderful folks at the TSA. Got a second to Rate and/or Review the podcast? Download the intro/outro songs for free! courtesy of Walking On Einstein. So are some people really too stupid to fuel? Come along as I tell you a story about how I learned the truth behind a couple of asinine state laws. And all this discovery only happened because The Evil Overlord (the wife and ex-codriver) is slower than a sloth with crutches. Check out this link for more information on these gas pumping laws. Today I try (ever so briefly) to be sexy. You can probably guess how well that turned out. So… what to say about the topic of today's podcast? Well, unsurprisingly, this particular blog post gets more hits than any of my others. I guess that just goes to show what kind of keywords people are Googling for these days. In this episode, you'll hear some stories of the perverted things (and people) that The Evil Overlord and I have seen out on the road. I'd give it a rating of PG-13.
