On this week’s show Lisa and Julia are joined by Gallup Certified Strengths coach (and, for full disclosure, Michelle’s partner) James Eves to talk about finding out what we are good at doing.
Do you easily see the best ways for things to be organized? Regardless of work or home life, you naturally can get all the pieces to fit just right to be the most efficient and get stuff done. In this week's episode, we welcome Katarina Razmovski and Marisol von Appen, both e2grow and Gallup Certified Strengths coaches, to talk with us about the CliftonStrengths Arranger® talent theme. Our conversation explores what having Arranger® looks like within their top 5 and the ways it leads to their personal success and how it can help teams achieve their best results. Katarina and Marisol are excellent examples of how Arranger talents, depending on the other talent themes surrounding them, can appear differently. Both shared with us how efficiency is at the heart of this theme, the pieces aren't simply slapped together haphazardly, but in fact ‘arranged' to bring maximum efficiency for the project, the goal, and all those involved, meeting an immediate need. Unlike other talents where the focus is the planning and thinking, the focus for the Arranger® is in the doing! They have the ability to see and use the pieces available to find the best course of action and begin moving right away. Share with us your experiences with the Arranger® theme, do you resonate with Katarina and Marisol? Residing at the intersection of leadership and mindfulness, Shawn creates sacred spaces for stillness and self-inquiry to help changemakers align their strengths, intention, and impact. Reckoning with his own contemplation of burnout, purpose, and alignment from a career in higher education and student affairs for over 10 years, Shawn transitioned out of his role as Associate Dean of Student Life & Leadership at Morehouse College in the fall of 2021 to focus more on mindfulness and stillness-based training programs and workshops. He is a Buddhist Dharma practitioner, whose impact filters through the practices of meditation, sound healing, yoga nidra, restorative yoga (E-RYT® 200, RYT® 500, YACEP®), and Gallup-Certified Strengths coaching, with a blend of over 18 years of personal practice and trainings. In addition to holding community space through classes, he provides training in leadership and strengths-based development, and workshops in mindfulness, meditation and sound healing. He has contributed workshops, practices, and educational opportunities for celebrities like Questlove, and various yoga studios and colleges, Yoga International, Embodied Philosophy, Sounds True One, the Human Rights Campaign, Spotify and Lululemon. He currently serves as the Community Engagement Specialist for Muse®, the neuro-technology, brain health, and meditation company. While being a proud dog dad, a hardcore gamer, and lover of all things anime, Shawn also hosts a podcast called The Mindful Rebel® Podcast that creates a platform to continually explore this unique intersection of leadership and mindfulness. In this episode, Anjali and Shawn discuss: • Shawn's personal journey into Yoga and other mind-body-spiritual transformative practices: From academia to a spaceholder of folks in the justice movement • Finding the connective tissue between academia and Buddhist teachings • Liminality liberatory movements: the need to consciously acknowledge and cultivate spaces • Reimagining “ not knowing” • How systems and institutions of Dominant Culture work against the slowing down • Non-negotiable rituals and processes to cultivate capacity • How we can cultivate spaces that allow for mindful processing/metabolizing change You can connect with Shawn on Instagram at @shawnj_moore and by signing up for his newsletter where he periodically drops new practices for his community. Scott Anthony Barlow is the founder of HappentoyourCareer.com At Happen to Your Career, Scott helps business professionals stop doing work that doesn't fit, figure out what does then strives to make it happen within their careers. He has been helping people develop their careers and businesses for over 10 years as a Human Resources Leader, Business Development Expert, and Career Coach. Scott is also a podcaster with two successful podcasts, the What fits You audio course, and the Happen to Your Career Podcast. His ultimate goal is to help you find those Ah Ha moments, so you can take control of your career journey and begin living A life.. that is.. unapologetically you! HAPPEN TO YOUR CAREER - FIGURE IT OUT The Figure It Out course is for anyone who is struggling in their career and is not sure where to start or feels a calling to do something different but doesn't yet know what that is. Scott explains The Figure It Out methodology by comparing it to building a puzzle. Just like a puzzle, in order to figure out your career direction you first need to start with the corner pieces, or as Scott calls them your signature strengths. There are many ways you can discover your strengths. The StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment is just one. You may remember my conversation with Lisa Cummings, a Gallup Certified Strengths coach, on the importance of understanding your strengths. Scott agrees which is why he makes your strengths the corner pieces in your career puzzle. Once you've identified your corner pieces, the next step in the process is to build out your frame. This part, in my opinion, is the hardest one and it's one we will all struggle with because it requires us to take an inventory of our lives for maybe the first time. The email course provides you with several exercises designed to help you walk through and prioritize all aspects of your life including areas such as your environment, your finances, family, personal growth and even your health. Scott explains during the show how all of these areas may overlap today but by prioritizing them, you begin to turn them into puzzles pieces that fit together in a way to build the complete picture. The reason this step is so difficult is because it requires you to make decisions and for many of us decisions don't come easy. However, is we really want to make a difference in our lives and our careers, decisions are exactly what we need to make. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.” The same is true in our careers, but how many of you reading this can answer the question, “What do you want out of life and your career?” If you find yourself struggling to answer this question, Scott's course is for you.
