Today we spoke with Mike Brown - English professional rugby player, with 72 caps for England Mike has amassed 340 appearances for Harlequins (and 500 points), 12 for Newcastle and 72 caps for the England national rugby union team. Predominantly a full back, Mike has won three 6 Nations titles with England and two English Premiership titles with Harlequins. He won the 2014 RBS Six Nations player of the championship award...and is renowned for his work ethic, tenacity and ability to attack with ball in hand. Today we unpacked the full back position and why that was the position for Mike (he started as a 10, has the heart of a 6). We discussed leadership, culture and high performing teams, all areas of interest for Mike, which he is studying as a part of the Sports Directorship, at Manchester Metropolitan University. Mike explained the intricacies of bringing club players from different environments and playing styles together for the national team, and the challenges of that for England. Mike dived into his playing philosophy around training, his preparation - and the nuggets as to how we can all catch a high ball better, with mentions to Irish legends like Conor O'Shea and Gavin Duffy. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Gavin Duffy took the hot seat for Gerry on today's show when we heard about the welcome a hero dog received when he was found after 15 days. Shop security in the run up to Christmas was discussed and we learned just how important it is to discuss bereavement with a child. Catherine Fulvio had the banter with Gavin - but did he really chop onions for her once upon a time? THE entry of three Dragons' Den investors into the presidential race has helped Michael D Higgins secure his landslide lead, Gavin Duffy believes. In his most frank comments on the “bizarre” decision by himself, Sean Gallagher and Peter Casey to contest the election, Mr Duffy admitted it is “very hard to explain”. And speaking on Independent.ie's ‘The Floating Voter' podcast, he said the coincidence has only served to hurt all of their chances. Responding to suggestions they are working together, Mr Duffy said: “No they are not, I can confirm that. In fact, it's dividing and diluting the vote. “I think it caused people to give a pause for thought. I think the winner from it is the incumbent.” The businessman said he inquired whether Sean Gallagher, who finished second in 2011, would run again and was assured it wasn't on his agenda. Asked he is held off putting his name forward if Mr Gallagher had publicly shown an interesting, Mr Duffy said: “But if you are told 1000pc ‘they are not running', well then you're in a situation where you take that on board and you make the decision.” On the podcast, Mr Duffy also talks about why he doesn't drink alcohol, his passion for hunting and being lucky enough to enjoy the “finer things” in life.

Episode 33 features a full preview of the upcoming Irish presidential election. I provide opinions on incumbent President Michael D Higgins and his seven-year-term in office along with the five candidates challenging him for the presidency: Sean Gallagher, Gavin Duffy, Peter Casey, Liadh Ní Riada and Joan Freeman. I discuss why presidential elections in Ireland are of very little importance to many people. Plus, I explain why I believe the presidential nomination process is completely ridiculous.
