Holiness isn't about us trying harder to do all the right things- it's about what God is doing in us, which then plays out in our daily lives. Holy living must be rooted on the hope that we have in Jesus, or otherwise it's legalism. Nevertheless, it's hard mental work because we need to take every thought captive unto the obedience of Christ. Everything in our lives has to be put through a Biblical worldview to see if it helps us hope more in Jesus' grace. Without our hope in Him, we have no motivation to pursue holiness. Holy living is a transformation that starts with our hope and works outward into our everyday conduct. Are your actions today reflecting the holiness of God-- Hope wholly in Jesus and live a holy life because He has called you to be holy.

“Hope is the confident expectation of good based on the person and promises of God.” - @andrejosiah Ps Andre continued our Advent series, Rumours of God, with a sermon on Hope. Sharing from Luke 1:5-7 and the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah who waited in long-suffering, resilience and obedience for a child, Pst Andre shared about the disappointment and unfulfilled longings we experience on this side of eternity, and how this can become our meeting point with Jesus when we bring our desires and longings to Him. In our waiting, will we be righteous and holy, or will our hearts be bitter and lead us to sin? And if our desires are not fulfilled, will we still trust in God? Even in the face of disappointment, may we remember that God is faithful, and remembers every prayer we utter. We can have a defiant and unwavering hope in Him.

In this final Hope Month message, we will come back to the teachings of Jesus and explore his parable of “the sheep and the goats.” In this startling prophecy, Jesus teaches that those to whom his kingdom belongs are the ones who practice justice towards the hungry, thirsty, homeless, naked, sick, and imprisoned. This profound idea is made even more striking by how much the Son of Man radically identifies with those poor and marginalized people. We will end this series the way we began, with Jesus inviting us to dedicate our lives to the work of justice and mercy in this broken world just as he did. What would it look like if we, Grace Church, continued to grow in our compassion, mercy, and love for those the world has rejected? This is an opportunity for us to be exactly who Jesus wants us to be and to join him in the work of healing the broken place of injustice.

John 5:19-4719 Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.20 “For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.21 “For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.22 “For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,23 so that all will honor the Son even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. Two Resurrections25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.26 “For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;27 and He gave Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.28 “Do not marvel at this; for an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear His voice,29 and will come forth; those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil deeds to a resurrection of judgment.30 “I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.31 “If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true.32 “There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.Witness of John33 “You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.34 “But the testimony which I receive is not from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.35 “He was the lamp that was burning and was shining and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.Witness of Works36 “But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of John; for the works which the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works that I do—testify about Me, that the Father has sent Me.Witness of the Father37 “And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form.38 “You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent.Witness of the Scripture39 “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; it is these that testify about Me;40 and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.41 “I do not receive glory from men;42 but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.43 “I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, you will receive him.44 “How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and you do not seek the glory that is from the one and only God?45 “Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope.46 “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me.47 “But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update. 1995. In the year 2025, humanity has achieved an unprecedented level of technological advancement, with colonies established on Mars and the development of faster-than-light travel. However, this progress has come at a cost, as the Earth's resources are rapidly depleting and the climate is on the brink of collapse. In the midst of this crisis, a mysterious signal is detected coming from the Kuiper Belt. Upon investigation, a team of scientists discover an ancient spacecraft buried deep in the ice, containing the remains of an extraterrestrial being. As the team works to revive the creature, they discover that it is Enki, a legendary figure from ancient Sumerian mythology. Enki reveals that he and his kind had visited Earth in the distant past, jumpstarting human civilization and imbuing humans with advanced knowledge and technology. However, Enki had to leave Earth to fulfill a mission, and his return was delayed for millennia. In the intervening time, humans had abused the gifts he had bestowed upon them, leading to their current crisis. Enki now offers to help humanity once again, but under the condition that they must prove themselves worthy of his aid. He tasks them with a series of trials, challenging them to demonstrate their ability to use technology responsibly and to work together to solve the planet's problems. As the world watches, humanity rises to the challenge, working together to restore the environment, develop sustainable energy sources, and expand into the cosmos. With Enki's guidance, they achieve feats previously thought impossible, and usher in a new era of prosperity and unity. However, there are those who seek to exploit Enki's knowledge and power for their own gain, leading to a final showdown between those who seek to use Enki's gifts for good and those who seek to abuse them. Ultimately, the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, as Enki and his followers battle against those who would seek to use their knowledge for destruction.

Time and Hope with James K.A. SmithIn this third episode of our Advent Series, philosopher and author James K.A. Smith helps us consider what it means to be creatures that are bound and formed by time. Each of us is shaped by the stories that precede us: “I think to be a creature who is living into the fullness of being human means grappling with, reckoning with, and sort of gratefully receiving the way that our past, our history, our our  embeddedness in time has contributed to this unique identity that God has made us to fulfill. And, , it's hard work.”As we mark Advent, a season of waiting, of reckoning with time, and of hopeful longing for the fulfillment of the Kingdom, Smith helps us rightly locate our hope in God: “Hope is possible precisely because you don't think the present is all there is. And you also don't think that humans are the only agents in this, that the God of the cosmos who fires the world with love is out ahead of us, which is precisely why there can always be new possibilities. I think that's radical for us to think about personally and individually. And I think it's radical for us to think about collectively and communally.”This podcast is an edited version of our Online Conversation from September 2022. Every day leading up to Christmas we will be reading, studying, and reflecting on a chapter of the Gospel of Luke. There are twenty-four days leading up to Christmas and twenty-four Chapters in Luke. We are going to enter the celebration of the birth of Jesus with a full context of his life and ministry. My hope and prayer for each of us is that we fully experience a closeness to Jesus like never before. In Luke 4 we read about the start of Jesus' ministry which includes his temptation by the devil. This is the VERSED podcast; a daily pursuit to become more perceptive to what the Bible says. If you would like to dive deeper into certain verses in the Bible, have a verse you would like to submit to have included in a future episode, have questions about the Bible that you would like answered in a bonus episode, or simply want to connect with me... text VERSED to 88474 or click hereAlso included in that link is a list of resources and references I use in this podcast and can help you grow deeper in your faith as well. As always – ratings and reviews are massive!
