Hundreds of people have been trying to set new world records in Ghana, with applications flying in since July 2023.Earlier this week a Ghanaian chef, Faila Abdul-Razak, completed the longest non-stop cook-a-thon, chopping and frying for more than 227 hours. She hasn't yet officially been given the title. She isn't the first to try though - last year a Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci, broke the world record, jumpstarting a trend for breaking world records in Nigeria too.So why are there so many attempts in Ghana and Nigeria? Our reporter in Accra, Favour Nunoo, runs us through some theories. We also chat to Afua Asantewaa - a Ghanaian who's attempted to set the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon. She managed five days straight. And William from the What in the World team demonstrates a hidden talent that definitely breaks our records! (12:00) Plus AFCON, the Africa Cup of Nations, kicks off this weekend with Ivory Coast vs Guinea-Bissau as the opening match. Teams like Morocco, Senegal and Egypt are among the favourites to win the tournament - but we find out from the BBC's Isaac Fanin how one man used the video game Football Manager to try to give underdogs Guinea-Bissau an advantage. The surge in Guinness World Record attempts has become a phenomenon across Africa. In Ghana alone, approximately 355 submissions have been made to the Guiness World Record for various attempts. Why is this trend gaining such momentum on the continent? This is what young Ghanaians think.
How to Grow Your Personal Brand in 2024 It's to take your brand to the next level. Whether you’re a new brand or an established one, you need to achieve at least one of these milestones/goals in the upcoming year to remain relevant and competitive. 1. Raise the bar on yourself It is all about having a growth mindset to place a demand on yourself to go higher and do better. Let me draw your attention to this simple observation: I know several brands in my circle that offer the same services and products of high quality and standard, yet they are underpaid by their clients. Why? Well, my survey revealed one major setback: a lack of confidence in their expertise. They lack the boldness to price their products and services as they deserve. Let me break it down this way. The Psychology of Pricing with Confidence: Listen, if you don't place a premium price on yourself, others will treat you like a commodity. Truth be told, you are powerful, gifted, talented, and skilled. Yes, you, you have to believe that. It all begins with self-belief and confidence in one's abilities. Perhaps, you have settled for crumbs for your brand and business. No! Yours is the gold, gear up and go for it. Until you raise the bar on yourself and work toward becoming a better version of yourself, you will only have the leftovers of those who dare and do mightier things. Building confidence in yourself is building confidence in your brand. If you've been doing well, great! It's time to step up your game and go up the notch. Stretch for a higher and greater opportunity. You can do more. In the coming weeks, months, and years, lift your game, pursue excellence, and master your craft. 2. Build Capacity for Growth Any brand that does not grow fades away. The competition is fierce, and the noise out there is loud. If you don't build yourself up and create significant capacity for growth and expansion, you will fade out faster than you think. This demands consistent improvement, exploration, charting new terrains, and pursuing bigger goals. Over the past year, many interesting things happened, and some went viral on social media – from Nigeria’s Hilda Baci breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking time to Afua Asantewaa Aduonum of Ghana attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual. A few things stand out. Firstly, the desire to break a record – that audacious attempt is worth commending. The second thing is that these records were way beyond their capacity, but they had to build the capacity to get it done. It stretches them, it challenges them, and it also gives reason for others to attempt breaking other records, be it in public or private. It gave enough people a reason to pursue larger goals and bigger dreams. My question for you is this: What bigger goals, dreams, and aspirations would you attempt in the coming year? Go for your big wins! The best is yours! Recommend Books 5 Minutes Habits (Audiobook) Retreat: Reflections for Busy Businessmen (Audiobook)

A Nigerian chef set a new global record for the longest hours of non-stop cooking as she cooked for 100 hours, surpassing the current record. Hilda Baci had been cooking when she set out to beat the Guinness World Record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set in 2019 by Lata Tondon, an Indian chef. By attempting to beat the record, the Nigerian chef said she wanted to show how hardworking and determined Nigerian youths are and also as a campaign for young African women who are sidelined in society. “Even when it comes to the brands you want to work with, it is like you have to go an extra mile to be taken seriously,” said Baci, adding that she hoped too that the world would learn more about Nigerian cuisines. At 15:00 GMT on May 11, she started to cook dozens of Nigerian delicacies under supervision, ranging from soups to stew and various proteins. Jollof rice, one of the most iconic West African dishes, was also featured on the menu. She has had only five-minute breaks every hour or an accumulated one hour after a stretch of 12 hours for everything else, from bathing to medical checkups and resting. As thousands of locals and celebrities cheered her on at the scene through day and night, many more monitored online via several streaming platforms. After she surpassed the current cooking record, President Muhammadu Buhari tweeted that May 15 was a great day for Nigeria. “Hilda's drive, ambition and resilience have brought great interest and insight into the uniqueness of Nigerian food,” said Buhari. As Baci neared the 100-hour mark, Kingsley Ofoma at the scene said he never doubted her to surpass the global record. “The energy here is very high and positive; everybody is having fun,” he said. “So eating her food free of charge is not even the best of it.” This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Hilda Baci is a chef in Lagos, Nigeria. She recently stayed in the kitchen for 100 hours and only took short breaks each hour. She started cooking on May 11 and did not stop until May 15. Baci's goal was to break the Guinness World Record for longest cooking time. An Indian chef set the current record of 87 hours, 45 minutes in 2019. Baci made classic Nigerian food like soups, stew and meats. She even made Jollof rice, one of the most famous West African meals. Baci finished her cooking on the night of May 15. We were feeling burnt out from all the vulnerability and sharing we did last week so this week's episode is a lot more lighthearted lol. Damini asked Dami some would you rather questions he discussed over bottomless brunch (0:00) and they spoke about Hilda Baci, and how sometimes women aren't taken seriously when they're seen to be conventionally attractive (11:35). They also discuss the ethical implications of giving someone money when they know it would be used for something negative (26:00) and speak about how it can be hard to come across as an expert in one area when you want to explore different fields (33:00). Finally Damini speaks about his upcoming football podcast. Happy Listening!Follow us on Instagram: @underconstructionpodcast

Someone quoted Hilda Baci as saying the reason she started a Guinness World Record Breaking Cookathon, is to assert the fact that women who "look like her" are NOT Call Girls by "nature". She wanted to prove that she was not hiding a "Call Girl" sign behind her chef coat. The question is why so much defamation against beautiful women -- on and off social media. Why is it automatically assumed that the more beautiful a woman the more their interest in sex "work" and less in noble works? Please listen in and share your insights. Thank you. By the way congratulation Hilda Baci.
