POPULARITY
When we hear the term, “it runs in the family,” it usually means some negative behavior trait, a genetic disease, or a vice but, in the Pelayo family, the main trait that runs through this family is artistic talent. If you've ever heard the idiom, “The apple doesn't fall far from the tree,” today's guests are the perfect case study for that! We are blessed today to welcome father and son, Antonio and Isaac Pelayo to the show. Antonio has witnessed Isaac growing into a successful and dynamic artist that is following in his father's footsteps, and that is part of the story that they share in today's episode. Antonio is an established artist, illustrator, and event producer who focuses on the Latino community of Southern California. He is also one of the last true inkers at the Walt Disney Animation Studios Ink and Paint Department. Acquiring over 100k followers on social media in the last few years, Isaac is a rising star illuminating his own path as a fine artist, creative musician, fashion visionary, and well sought after tattoo artist. In today's conversation, Antonio and Isaac talk about their artistic legacy and how Isaac's father inspired him as an artist by exposing him to art from an early age. We also touch on the power of social media for self-promotion, the economics of art, and how younger artists can benefit from hearing the success stories of artists who have paved the way, as well as the value of being both artist and art dealer, taking agency and advocating for yourself as an artist, and the power of learning to say ‘no'. Tune in today! Key Points From This Episode: What it's like for Antonio to see his son earning notoriety as an artist at such a young age. Isaac shares how his father inspired him as an artist by exposing him to art from an early age. Why Isaac says that getting an early start fueled his hunger to become an artist. How Antonio set an example for Isaac rather than putting pressure on him. Find out how Antonio first got exposed to art and developed a love for drawing as a child. During his time at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Antonio shares how he discovered fine art and started building his portfolio. In the sixth episode of FNW, Joe and Antonio discuss: How Antonio became a Napoli supporter An emotional rollercoaster against Sassuolo: Insigne's goal overturned by VAR Another tough day for Nikola Maksimovic Piotr Zielinski on Fire Penalty decisions Solid performances from Lorenzo Insigne and Giovanni Di Lorenzo A comedy of errors to concede a late equalizer Antonio's special assignment
Here is another story behind that of a change-maker who was hungry, creative, and innovative in his younger years. One day realizing that he was living on autopilot as he was nearing his late 30s, early 40s. It all came to a head when he found himself hiding in alleyways in Santa Monica, California, smoking cigarettes while wearing a green gardening glove so that his wife wouldn’t find out. His name is Antonio Neves, writer, prolific speaker, and executive coach. While Antonio’s story isn’t tragic or overly-dramatic, it is a relatable one for many of us, especially those of us in our 30s, 40s, and 50s, who have everything together on paper but, under the surface, we’re falling apart. This was Antonio’s experience leading to him writing the book, Stop Living on Autopilot: Take Responsibility for Your Life and Rediscover a Bolder, Happier You, which is exactly what he eventually decided to do. He didn’t employ a hack or some overnight miracle fix; he implemented several tools, including asking better, more honest questions, asking himself how he was showing up in his marriage, his career, and his relationship with his kids. With that, he started repairing a lot of the other broken areas of his life, such as his diet and his relationship with alcohol, his exercise routine, his lack of commitment, his contribution to society, and so much more. In this episode, you’ll hear from Antonio about some of the experiences he had and the important lessons he has learned along the way. What stands out about this conversation is how applicable it is to each and every one of us, starting right now! Even if there are only one or two takeaways from this interview that resonate with you, they will be ideas that you can implement immediately. Make sure to tune in today to find out more about the thieves of ambition versus the allies of glory and the importance of accountability, recommitting every day, and doing the work when no one is watching.Key Points From This Episode:Find out why Antonio’s favorite activity as a child was anything to do with sports.Antonio reflects on the confidence and structure that he got from doing sport.Hear about Antonio’s upbringing and family dynamic, which he describes as often unstable.Dealing with physical and emotional abandonment as a teenager and being an introvert. If Antonio’s upbringing taught him anything, it was awareness and resourcefulness. One of the philosophies that he learned from his father: “You always take care of family."Antonio explains how he avoided getting into fights using words and humor. How Antonio came to learn about race and his family’s uniquely mixed heritage.Getting into university, becoming part of the track team, and realizing he was never going to compete at the Olympics.A conversation that Antonio had with his coach and what it taught him about hard work. The importance of spending time with your allies of glory, not the thieves of ambition. How an internship with Kraft Foods opened Antonio to possibility and gave him confidence. What a sales job with at Winn-Dixie taught Antonio about effective communication.Taking a risk, quitting his sales job, and moving to LA to pursue his dreams of being on TV.Hear about his journey from acting in commercials to landing a gig on Nickelodeon. When Antonio’s contract wasn’t renewed, he was heartbroken: his identity was tied into being seen on TV every day.Antonio had a decision to make: Stay on the grind in LA or graduate school in New York. The time in Antonio’s life when it seemed he had it all together on paper, but he had started playing not to lose instead of playing to win.Antonio’s autopilot phase, numbing his fear and self-doubt with wine, Netflix, and cigarettes. How redefining succes

PULL QUOTE: “The focus of the D&I programs are to bring people that are different--that think differently, that look differently, that have different backgrounds and experiences-and then create a work environment where all those people can succeed...That, to me, goes hand in hand with what we want from an organization that is focused on ethics, compliance, and integrity.” Antonio Fernandez of PSEG discusses with LRN's Ben DiPietro his approach to building an ethics and compliance program, and how his coming out as gay helps him serve as a leader for diversity and inclusion. Antonio Fernández was named PSEG’s chief compliance officer in April 2016 and is responsible for overseeing its compliance program, which involves managing PSEG’s ethics and compliance group and its NERC compliance group. Fernández joined PSEG from General Electric, where he served as GE Power’s global ombuds leader, and as executive counsel. Fernández started his career at the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Office of the General Counsel, through its Honors Program. He then served as nuclear counsel for Pacific Gas and Electric Co., where he oversaw all legal matters related to PG&E’s nuclear power plants. After PG&E, he joined NextEra Energy as a senior attorney. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Dayton; a Juris Doctor degree (Order of Barristers) from St. Mary’s University School of Law; and a Master of Laws in international and comparative law from Georgetown University Law Center. How would the situation gone differently if he didn’t have to go through the experience of learning for himself and maybe fumbling along the way?
How do you present yourself through your behaviors, words, and even fashion? Have you held back what is true and feels good to you in any of those three areas? If you have, I completely understand, having been influenced by so many cultural norms and perceptions that put pressure on me to blend in, rather than express myself.
