Chelsea's title charge starts now... The Athletic's Blues experts Liam Twomey and Simon Johnson join Matt Davies-Adams to wrap up the international break and look ahead to a trip to the seaside as they prepare to face tricky foes Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium. We begin with a runthrough of the fortunes of some of Mauricio Pochettino's men on duty with their countries - including more struggles for Mykhailo Mudryk and pondering why Levi Colwill didn't get a shot for England while a certain out of favour defender did... Next, we take a closer look at the squad audit Liam did for The Athletic -with a look at the strengths and weaknesses of this incredibly young crop of players which has been assembled. Then it's all eyes on that game against the Cherries - a word on the latest with the ongoing search for a shirt sponsor, a special 'Elsewhere in Chelsea news' after the legends put on a show at Stamford Bridge - before we wrap things up with a quiz... We'll be back on Monday to reflect on the trip to the seaside and hopefully an important three points for the Blues! Produced by Lucy Oliva. *** • This is a paid advertisement by BetterHelp. DAVE HOLE is Australia's premier internationally successful bluesman and a highly acclaimed slide guitar virtuoso. He first burst onto the international scene in 1991 with “Short Fuse Blues”, the first of his seven albums released on the prestigious Alligator Records label. He is widely regarded as one of the all-time slide guitar greats whose playing is infused with the spirit of such legends as Elmore James, Duane Allman and Johnny Winter. Nine successful albums and countless tours of the U.S. and Europe have solidified Dave's stature as one of the very best slide guitarists playing today. Dave grew up in Western Australia where, as a child he was somewhat isolated and somewhat lonely. So, he sought solace in music via the family radio and by the age of eleven had convinced his parents to buy him his first guitar. He was immediately smitten and so began a lifelong passion for music and guitar in particular. On leaving school Dave completed a degree in physics but by 1974 he was playing music full time. In 1976 he broke the little finger of his left hand playing Australian Rules football. The mishap led him to adopt his unusual slide guitar technique, one which caught the eyes and ears of the American public and turned the musician into a highly sought after player. The press gave him rave reviews reporting him as “Magnificent, staggering, almost beyond belief...” Almost overnight, Dave Hole became an international phenomenon. Hole was soon gigging non-stop across America and Europe, leaving audiences spellbound wherever he went. And it wasn't just the critics who were paying attention. Metallica's Kirk Hammett names Dave Hole as one of his favourite guitarists, saying “His slide playing kills me. He plays so fast, and his phrasing, intonation and tone are perfect”. JUNO Award-winning Canadian bluesman Steve Strongman is a versatile talent, and a restless one. By constantly pushing himself in new directions, he has kept himself vital. His talent is huge and impossible to miss, and it's matched by his staggering musical ambition — as guitar-slinger, songwriter or vocalist. The same structures and progressions that animate blues and roots music can also choke the air out of it, smothering it in caricature and cliché. But Strongman is a subtle shape-shifter who manages to slip that trap without betraying the music he loves. Throughout, he never sounds an inauthentic note or loses touch with the essence of the blues. The 2019 release of Strongman's 7th studio recording "Tired of Talkin'" is destined to further establish the guitar slinger's reputation as one of the most exciting artists on the International Blues scene. Strongman's impressive resume includes stints opening for guitar legends such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, and Johnny Winter. The performer's breakthrough 2012 release A Natural Fact was hailed as a standout, earning Maple Blues Awards for Recording, Songwriter, and Guitarist Of The Year as well as a 2013 Juno Award for Blues Recording Of The Year. In 2014 he was thrice-nominated at the Maple Blues Awards (Guitar Player, Electric Act, and Entertainer of the Year) and in 2015 received a second Juno nod for Blues Album of the Year (for Let Me Prove It To You). In 2018, No Time Like Now, was a Juno award nominee for Blues Album of the Year and in 2019, Strongman won Best Guitarist for the Solo Duo Category at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. His 2019 release “Tired of Talkin” is earning rave reviews and showcases why Strongman is one of the most exciting performers on the scene today.Beyond Strongman's talent as a songwriter, guitarist and front man is his ability to engage his audience and deliver an outstanding performance at every live show. With his inimitable guitar playing and soulful vocals, Strongman delivers incredible performances with power and passion. Steve Strongman has a way of stirring a crowd that evokes the emotion, maturity and authenticity of classic blues themes. His music speaks for truth and passion, and offers hope for the soul in the face of hard times in a way that leaves audiences craving more. In a musical world of many pretenders, Steve Strongman is as real and authentic as it gets.
