Great white dance band that recorded prolifically for many companies under many pseudonyms. Featuring soon-to-be stars Johnny Mince on clarinet, Pee Wee Erwin on trumpet, Dick Clark on tenor sax, Mike Doty on alto and Ward Silloway and Les Jenkins on trombones, the real centerpieces were the leader's arrangements, which were terrific examples of the early swing style. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/john-clark49/support

See Creature is challenging the norms of Nashville as they pioneer and blend country, rock and reggae into Coastal American Alternative Music. It's a rare opportunity these days to chat with a band that is on the ascent to stardom — before the average fan has discovered their sound and the blizzard of downloads begins. But that's just what we did with See Creature on the Florida Keys Weekly Podcast this past week. In town for Key West Songwriters Festival, See Creature is composed of three accomplished musicians who are challenging the norms of Nashville and Country Music. Rob Snyder, a Philly native (who has written No. 1 songs for stars like Luke Combs and performed on music's biggest stages) joined forces with Ryan Nelson and Job Fortner to create a unique fusion that includes rock, reggae and country elements into a Coastal American Alternative genre they may very well be pioneering. Most of all, the three are as fun to chat with as they are to listen to on stage, so join us as we dig in with See Creature to discuss their anticipated new album, their plans to travel the nation and how the three juggle family, careers and friendship along the way. I share some of that bootleg in today's episode, and talk about the importance of not forgetting your process from early periods of your development as a musician. This week we're joined by Ron Keel for an insightful conversation on his career and future plans. As recently announced, Ron has been added to the roster for ROCKNPOD weekend taking place in Nashville this August. In this conversation, Ron talks about his early days in Nashville. Coming to Music City in 1979, Ron encountered a much different Nashville than the way it is today. In this discussion, he shares stories of what led him to Nashville, the rock scene at the time (or lack thereof), and how he planted roots and founded Steeler. The formation of Steeler would lead Ron and the band to Los Angeles in the early 80's. In this conversation, Ron shares the story of the band's early days, lineup changes, and how he feels about the legacy of the band. Things would go full-circle in 2019 when Ron reunited with several past members of the band at KEELFEST which would take place at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, OH. It was a great way to cap off the history of Steeler.Steeler would give way to the formation of KEEL. The band would ascend the rock ranks through the 80's and work with producers like Mike Varney, Gene Simmons and Michael Wagener. In 1986, Keel won the Best Band of the Year award in the second annual Metal Edge magazine reader's poll, beating such noted bands as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Their studio albums 'The Right to Rock,' 'The Final Frontier,' and 'Keel' are celebrated by many hard rock fans. 2010's 'Streets of Rock n' Roll' showed the band could still rock with the best of them. From that first Steeler album to recent releases like “South X South Dakota” and “Fight Like A Band,” Ron Keel's 35-year career in entertainment has taken him from the concrete jungles of arena rock to the dirt roads of country music. Along the way, he has sold millions of albums and toured the world as both a heavy metal screamer (KEEL, Steeler, and a brief encounter with Black Sabbath) and a southern rock/outlaw country artist (with dozens of songs in major films and TV shows). For the past two decades, the Metal Cowboy has combined both genres, establishing a style and a persona which captures the heart and personality of this self-proclaimed rock n' roll outlaw. In this conversation, Ron talks about the great connection he has with his fans. His following spans generations and he regularly interacts with them through his Patreon content which is uploaded constantly. He also shares some details of an upcoming album that he's working on as songs continue to flow. Additionally, Ron hosts his longtime radio show 'Streets of Rock n' Roll' and 'The Ron Keel Podcast,' both of which feature tons of great music and great interviews. We had a great time talking to Ron Keel this week and look forward to seeing him at ROCKNPOD in Nashville this August!
