Paris Olympics are done, Denard Robinson's cop cam, Justin Bieber heckled, Eli Zaret stops in, Corey Feldman visits a medium, Drew Crime, bands with no original members, and Frankie Valli is morphing into an animatronic puppet. Paris 2024: Breakdancing captivated the Olympics for its pure stupidity. The butts were on full display in the Artistic Swimming event. Olympics are done… back to twerking on OnlyFans. Johnny Weir looked perfectly ridiculous. Tom Cruise made the closing ceremonies all about him. The USA dominates Basketball. Eli Zaret drops by to praise LeBron James, name-drop Mike Tirico, the NBA's massive new sports streaming deal, comment on Donald Trump's crowd obsession, cover the latest Jim Harbaugh nonsense, Michigan's middle finger back to the NCAA, the Wolverines low standing in the first AP college football rankings, MSU's rough schedule, boring Detroit Lions preseason games, quarterback contracts to come, the terrible Detroit Tigers and more. We watch the cop cam footage of former University of Michigan QB Denard Robinson's OWI. Jake Paul looks like he's on steroids. A new movie about Saturday Night Live is on the way and will be released October 11th. Nelly is 50 years old and still taking ecstasy. We only know this because he hit a slot machine jackpot. Frankie Valli is 90 and still singing… depending on how you define singing. There are many bands performing today with no original members. Molly Hatchet sucks live. Iron Butterfly is not much better. Kevin Bacon really wants you to look at his hair. Is Kevin Bacon hot? He certainly thinks he's a smoke show. Corey Feldman saw medium Tyler Henry and his mind was blown. Fred Durst confirmed the Corey solos are legit, but they are still atrocious. Amanda Bynes looks terrible these days. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are making a movie about Hulk Hogan suing Gawker. Murderer Gypsy Rose Blanchard is going to have a baby and it's a girl! Justin Bieber is an old man being heckled by kids now. Britney Spears played with 1/3 of Paul Soliz's children. She's currently beefing with Blake Lively. Elijah Wood was in town and probably thinks he's hot too. Drew Crime: The crimes of Linda Cooney. The Samantha Woll alleged murderer will not be tried again. Murder charges were finally filed against a man that had a relationship with a Detroit neurosurgeon that was found dead in his house rolled up in a carpet. David Copperfield sued for trashing penthouse. There a few things funnier that a leaky pool in a city high-rise. Politics: Kamala Harris is on the rise! Joe Biden did an interview and nobody noticed. Debates are on the way. Even Time Magazine couldn't land an interview with Kamala. This week heed the call of the sumo wrestling, battle-axe-wielding, baby seal-faced man! All hail Johnny the Mighty Tior!!! Yep, it's another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. We're talking about a seminal New Wave Of “Not So” British Heavy band turned Power Metal trendsetters: RIOT! Infamous as much for horrible album cover visuals and weird heavy metal mascot, Riot is a true heavy metal tour de force that is still kicking ass in 2024. We focus our listening on the first half of their career from their start in 1977 until their transition to pure power metal in 1990. They were always slightly ahead of the curve and trends, but never achieved the success of many of their peers or bands they influenced. We think RIOT shoulda been huge!!!What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Well, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This episode covers a band clearly in the Lost category for most and forgotten for others. As always, we hope that we turn you on to something new. You can check out the documentary we referenced several times during the show here: three-part documentary: Riot – Fight or Fall, available here on Youtube Songs this week include:Riot – “Warrior” from Rock City (1977)Riot – “Road Racin'” from Narita (1979)Riot – “Don't Hold Back” from Fire Down Under (1981)Riot – “Loanshark” from Restless Breed (1982)Riot - “Born In America” from Born In America (1983)Riot – “Thundersteel” from Thundersteel (1988)Riot – “Little Miss Death” from The Privilege Of Power (1990)Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

They talk about how he joined Foghat and their new album "Sonic Mojo"that was released on November 10, 2023. Bryan picks his favorite track off of the album and his favorite from his entire career. He also talks about the late Kim Simmonds of Savoy Brown and his influence on Foghat and him personally. Of course, Beth had to talk about Jackson Browne and Bryan talks about his love of Jackson's songwriting. Bryan tells his favorite memories from each band he has been a part of, as well as talking about his time teaching in college and how difficult it was to answer to Professor Bassett. Current influences and bands that Bryan listens to are also on this episode. Beth mentions a surf band called Froghat and Bryan talks about a piece of Foghat merch that was a frog head made for babies to wear as a hat...making it a frog-hat. Lots of laughs on this one, and, as always, there's the time machine question and Bryan's desert island disc picks....all of that and so much more.

Hello Rivet Heads, On this week's show, we present a Truly unique look behind the "Metal Curtain" as we speak to Brittany Chapman, the daughter of the late Paul Chapman, Guitarist of UFO. This is her story we have dubbed " Growing up Chapman". Brittany is the youngest of Paul's 3 children via 4 marriages, as well as being the only girl. Since Paul's death in June of 2020, Brittany has received condolence's and well wishes from fans and musicians from all over the world. The magnitude of her late father's finger print on the global rock community has been humbling to say the least for Brittany. You see, to us fans, Paul Chapman was a "ROCK STAR", but to Brittany he was her dad. Brittany shares countless stories of her family upbringing with her father, Mother, Step Mother's, step siblings, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. You really get a look at Paul Chapman”, THE DAD" with his love of cooking and music. His connection to all 4 of his wives and how he was able to keep a positive family unit together while combining step children with his own children. Brittany shares her admiration for her mother Cheryl whom she refers to as the real “GOAT” of the family. Fun stories include putting up with the passed-out road crew of L.A. glam band in her living room to late night shenanigans involving swords. Brittany reflects back on her dad's love of cooking. Always preparing big meals with guitar in hand, for friends and family. Family was everything to Paul. It wasn't always easy, Paul wasn't perfect, but he had a perfect heart and loved both his close family and his music family. Finally, Brittany shares the continuous reach out from Her Dad's colleagues. Phil Collen and Joe Elliot of Def Leppard, Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo, Kirk Hammett, Nicko McBrain and Radio DJ Eddie Trunk. The list goes on and on... Paul touched all of these music giants in a way that Brittany is just now fully realizing. "Growing up Chapman '' is Brittany Chapman's story and it's a Damn good one! Paul Chapman (9 June 1954 – 9 June 2020) was a Welsh rock guitarist best known for his work in bands such as UFO and Lone Star. Chapman first joined UFO in 1974-1975 as a second guitarist for the live shows. He left UFO in January 1975 and went on to form Lone Star. Chapman later rejoined UFO in December 1978 on a full-time basis. Chapman recorded his first album with UFO – No Place to Run – It was released in January 1980. Chapman remained in UFO until 1983 In 1984 he joined Waysted and recorded the albums The Good the Bad the Waysted and Save your Prayers. Chapman also went on to form a new band PCP (Paul Chapman Project) and in July 2006, Chapman joined the American southern rock band Gator Country, a collection of Molly Hatchet veterans. In 2015, Chapman went out for a 10-week US tour with the Swedish/Canadian band Killer Bee. Chapman died on his 66th birthday on 9 June 2020. He left two sons, a daughter, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. He was well known by his nickname "Tonka", allegedly acquired because of his indestructible qualities. R.I.P. Specifically, this playlist contains the best tracks of the latter era of the band which continues to be led by guitarist Bobby Ingram over its last five studio albums. This period of the band continues to be ignored by early era fans due to the non-inclusion of any original members (other than Danny Joe Brown on the first release), but there's some great material to be found. Through his parents, he was exposed to both Contemporary Christian music and also secular music. Through his older sister, he also heard a great mix of pop and punk. Tyler appreciated good music, no matter what the genre. His dad was into classic rock, which opened another musical window. He got a guitar, and over time, became an incredibly great guitarist. At 18, he moved to Nashville for a while and was knocked out by what he heard from the musicians there. He's played in bands that have opened for Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchet and .38 Special just to name a few. Many folks know that the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd came out of Jacksonville, Florida.  But they weren't the only big southern rock band to arise from that city.  Molly Hatchet was another southern rock band from Jacksonville, also sporting three guitars.  The band formed in 1971 and shares a lot of the inspiration and influence of Skynyrd.  their best selling album was their second one, Flirtin' with Disaster, which peaked at number 19 and became a 2x platinum seller in the United States.  The name of the band comes from the legend of a Salem-era prostitute who supposedly mutilated and decapitated her clients.  The band was not only famous for its music, but for its album cover art.  Fantasy artist Frank Frazetta created the cover, depicting a Viking-like warrior with a winged helmet and battle axe.  Personnel for Flirtin' with Disaster included Danny Joe Brown on vocals, guitarists Dave Hlubek, Steve Holland, and Duane Roland, Banner Thomas on bass, and Bruce Crump on drums. While Flirtin' with Disaster is the band's most successful album, they also found considerable success with the eponymous debut album released prior to Flirtin' and the third album, “Beatin' the Odds,” released with new front man Jimmy Farrar who replaced Danny Joe Brown who left for a number of reasons including diabetes.  The band would not achieve similar success with its future albums, though Brown would return to the band by their fifth album.  Molly Hatchet remained a popular touring band, though today all the original members have died.  Friend of the show Craig Dale joins us as Wayne brings us this Southern rock classic for the podcast.  Let the Good Times RollWhile this may be considered a deeper cut, the track which closes out the album did receive significant airplay on rock stations when the album came out.  “Give me wine, women, whiskey and rock 'n' roll and let me sleep my days away.”  Flirtin' with DisasterThis is the timeless classic from the album, the title track, and the opening song for side two.  Although this is considered their breakout hit and highest charting, it only went to number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100.  The song has been used in a number of films and television shows including Suspect Zero, Straw Dogs, My Name is Earl, and King of the Hill.Good Rockin'This deep cut is one in which all band members share writing credits.  It was not released as a single but did appear as a B-side to their second single, “It's All Over Now.”  It is simply a straightforward rock party song - “So if you're feeling good, if you feel alright we're going to have a rock 'n' roll time tonight.”Whiskey ManThe leading track from the album is a well-known Molly Hatchet song, though it failed to chart.  It is an anti-drinking song in which the lyrics discuss the hazards of alcohol.  “You start to get straight, then you get weak, can't you see you're on a losing streak?” ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Coal Miner's Daughter by Loretta Lynn (from the motion picture “Coal Miner's Daughter”)Sissy Spacek won the Academy Award for her portrayal of Loretta Lynn in this biographical drama.  STAFF PICKS:Back On My Feet Again by The BabysBruce brings us the number 33 hit by John Waite and the Babys - their fourth and final top 40 hit.  This is off their album “Union Jacks.”  They opened for Journey on tour, and their keyboardist, Jonathan Cain, would wind up joining Journey when the Babys broke up.  What I Like About You by The RomanticsRob presents a party song that got a lot of airplay with a 50's/60's feel.  It was written in 1979 and it came out on the debut album from the Romantics.  The lead singer, Wally Palmar, is the drummer for the group.  The song only made it to number 49 on the US charts, but its garage band feel and party credentials have given it a timeless quality that fares better the longer it is around.Magic by Olivia Newton JohnLynch tests Wayne's patience with this number 1 hit from Australia's own Olivia Newton John.  It was recorded for the soundtrack to the 1980 musical fantasy film “Xanadu” and was released as its lead single.  The song was written by John Farrar who wrote a number of Olivia Newton John's hits.Goodbye Blue Sky by Pink FloydFriend of the show Craig Dale brings us a haunting tune from the Pink Floyd album “The Wall.”  This track reveals how the horror of war and the blitz formed a brink in the wall of isolation the protagonist forms in his descent into madness.  The child speaking at the front of the song is actually band member Roger Waters' son, Harry.Rockin' Heaven Down by HeartWayne closes out this week's podcast with his favorite Heart song from the album “Bebe Le Strange.”  The track features Nancy Wilson starting the song on a 12-string electric guitar, and Nancy Wilson's fierce vocals.  “Hoot into the night, that look from eye to eye, a flash gets passed around, a band of wild angels rockin' heaven down.”

This week the lads hop across the pond to do some more excavation of denim and leather… Well, sort of… While it's sort of about the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, we instead visit France, USA, Canada, Japan, and Germany! The NWOBM movement was filled with passionate bands from Great Britain that were poised to take over the world. Most of the A-listers like: Iron Maiden, Saxon, and Def Leppard went on to major success, but bands from around the globe were inspired and aspired to carry the torch of heavy metal in the early 80s. Hopefully, we can help spread the word and sounds for those that didn't quite make it to the same level. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss the LOST. From the music, to the fashion, to the attitude… 40-years ago these bands started an underground movement that would change hard rock and metal globally forever.Songs this week include:Riot – “Hard Lovin' Man” from Restless Breed (1982)Trust – “In The Name Of The Race” from Repression (1980)Loudness – “Loudness” from The Birthday Eve (1981) Manilla Road – “Far Side Of The Sun” from Metal (1982)Exciter – “Heavy Metal Maniac” from Heavy Metal Maniac (1983)Grave Digger – “Heavy Metal Breakdown” from Heavy Metal Breakdown (1984)Cirith Ungol – “Frost And Fire” from Frost And Fire (1981)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

This week we are joined by the man himself… He's not only the co-host of the Decibel Geek, the founder, and CEO of the Rock n' Pod Expo, but is largely the reason that our podcast is in existence. Of course, we are talking about Chris Czynszak! Kevin annoyed and berated Chris to the point where he felt he had to come on our show just to shut him up. Chris has brought us a very special selection of obscure tunes from the guitarmony masters: THIN LIZZY! This is a band that is very near and dear to our collective hearts! Join us as we geek out with the head geek himself!New to InObscuria? Every week your two hosts crawl down to the crypts to exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens.
