At a time when even faith is politicized it is essential to our nation that the national nonprofit Faith in Public Life persists. It is a safe space for leaders from diverse faith traditions to find common ground and speak out in support of a more just democracy. For almost 20 years FIPL has spoken up for equity and inclusion as champions of LGBTQ equality, immigration rights and strategies for reducing gun violence. Its focus now is on safeguarding voters and election administrators and all who participate in civil life from political violence. And it is supporting the right of all people to comprehensive reproductive healthcare. In this episode of Power Station, Faith in Public Life CEO Jeanné Lewis shares how she is driven by her own faith and a passion for empowering those who have not experienced the confidence and agency needed to act and lead. She further lives her values as a member-owner of Community Grocery Cooperative, a new economic model for bringing groceries to Washington DC's under-resourced Wards 7 and 8. Jeanné exemplifies what it means to believe in the power of the collective to strengthen our democracy. Hear her.

One in four people who've had an abortion identify as Catholic. That surprised Gloria, as most Catholic leaders are ardently against the procedure. In this episode, Gloria talks with Jamie Manson, the president of Catholics for Choice, and Jeanné Lewis, interim CEO at Faith in Public Life Action, about how abortion rights are viewed across different faiths. They also talk about what the recent midterm election revealed about abortion access, and how, with the right kind of conversation, you might be able to change someone's mind. Even if they're a nun. This is a story about a seasoned war photojournalist named Annie Green. The timeline is 2015 and Annie is headed back to Afghanistan on assignment. She's struggling through PTSD from the last time she was there - when a girls school she was working at exploded killing her closest friend. She's also facing betrayal from a rival journalist, and she's navigating a delicate balance between love, motherhood and a dangerous career. We're talking about the thrilling fiction created by author Jeannée Sacken called Double Exposure and we're doubly lucky because the narrator for this series is also joining us. Nicole Swanson describes how she prepared to be the voice of Annie. But first, we hear how Nicole's other profession feeds her acting skills and her humanity. If you would like to hear more of Nicole's performance of Double Exposure's audiobook, please look for the title on Libro.fm . I remember being called home from school during my senior year in High School because my grandmother, who lived with us at the time, had slipped into a coma. When I got home, I wanted to see her but my cousin said not to get my hopes up as she had been unresponsive for some time. Undeterred, I climbed up the stairs and sat by her bedside. As if on cue, her eyes opened and said, “My Michael, I've been waiting for you.” I won't mention what else was said between us, but after our chat, she closed her eyes again and never woke up. She slipped away later that night. I share this personal story because today's guest, Jeannée Sacken, shared a similar experience with her father—but you will have to listen in for that beautiful story. Meet Jeannée Sacken: A former English professor at Rochester Institute of Technology, Jeannée is now a photojournalist who travels the world documenting the lives of women and children. She also photographs wildlife and is deeply committed to the conservation of endangered species. She joined me on Uncorking a Story to talk about her career and latest book, Double Exposure. Key Topics: How complex stories made for Barbie and Ken and putting on plays in neighborhood backyards planted the seed that one day Jeannée might be a storyteller. How encouragement from a strict teacher blew some wind in Jeannée's sails and encouraged her to write more. How her father's dying wish for her to not die with regrets changed her life forever. How a Twilight Zone experience with a Seer in Zimbabwe put her on the path to pursuing a career as a photojournalist. Why she'd tell her younger self to experience it all and to not be afraid. “I was sitting in the ICU at my father's bedside and it was clear he was dying. He took my hand and he said, “Don't die with regrets.” And that was the last thing he said because he went into a coma after that. And it took me a while to figure out exactly what that meant.” — Jeannée Sacken Buy: Double Exposure Amazon: https://amzn.to/3e5v2Xd Bookshop.org: https://bookshop.org/a/54587/9781645383703 Connect with Jeannée Website: https://jeanneesacken.com/home/index.html Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/authorjeanneesacken/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jeannee.sacken Connect with Mike Website: https://uncorkingastory.com/ Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSvS4fuG3L1JMZeOyHvfk_g Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/uncorkingastory/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/uncorkingastory Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/uncorkingastory LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/uncorking-a-story/ If you like this episode, please share it with a friend. Jeannee delves into her love for the rich heritage of Afghanistan, which forms the backdrop of her debut and how, even at an early age, teachers singled her stories out for praise, so she's always considered herself a writer despite years as a professor as well as a photographer. You'll learn how she re-wrote her book several times based on feedback from both agents and other writers and why she opted for a small press over the agent/traditional publisher route. A former English professor, Jeannée Sacken is a photojournalist who travels throughout Africa, South America, and Asia documenting the lives of women and children. Behind the Lens is her debut novel. Double Exposure, her second novel featuring Annie Hawkins Green, is slated for release in October 2022. She lives in Shorewood, Wisconsin with her husband and cats and loves to make guest appearances at book clubs to discuss her novels. To learn more about Jeannee, click here.

Chegou a hora dessa geração reagir! Romanos 8.19

Jeanne makes a $20 investment in her Future Self every month, a pass to the car wash. She feels abundant when she can run through the car wash and not worry whether she has change or think about waiting until Tuesday (when she can save $1). The feeling she gets from having a clean car is one her Future Self has often. So, every time she gets her car washed she’s activating that feeling. Listen to hear more. You’ll also hear how Jeann has changed and evolved so much that she even experiences the unlimited car washes differently. It’s all part of how she’s stopped chasing and started living abundantly. You’ll also hear how she used to listen to Abraham for 2-½ hours while trail running and never quite figured out how to make the Law of Attraction work.
