It's a crowded field of Republican candidates in the race for U.S. Senate in Nevada - 12 candidates filed for the chance to take on incumbent Democrat Jacky Rosen in November. This week, we start our Know Your Candidates 2024 series by introducing you to the 3 GOP candidates that, according to a recent internal poll, have the best shot at upsetting Sam Brown, the wounded warrior widely considered to be the frontrunner. (Brown initially signed up for an interview slot but canceled, citing a scheduling conflict. His team did not respond when we offered three other time slots on a different day.) Host Ben Margiott interviews Jim Marchant, Tony Grady and Jeff Gunter about Yucca Mountain, abortion, the Trump hush money trial and more. In fairness to all candidates, we asked a series of similar questions. Stay tuned for extended interviews with several other candidates in the Republican primary in the coming weeks.

In 2022, Oregon voters cast ballots for the first time in a newly created congressional district the state was awarded after the 2020 U.S. Census. The 6th Congressional District stretches from suburbs southwest of Portland to Salem, and includes all of Yamhill and Polk counties, as well as portions of Marion, Washington and Clackamas counties.   We hear from two prominent candidates in the Republican primary vying for a chance to flip the seat in the fall. Mike Erickson is the founder and CEO of AFMS, a supply chain and logistics consulting firm based in Tigard. He narrowly lost to Democrat Andrea Salinas in 2022 after winning the GOP primary that May. David Russ, the mayor of Dundee in Yamhill County, is challenging Erickson once again in this year’s GOP primary race. Russ and Erickson join us for a debate to talk about their competing visions.

Deputies responded to a wellness check where a man reported his son, armed with a rifle, was inside a home that had been shot at from within. SWAT and hostage negotiators were called in when contact couldn't be made. The suspect fired rounds at deputies and started a fire inside the house. SWAT members eventually removed him from the burning house. The man faces charges including criminal damage to property and reckless conduct. His identity was not disclosed by authorities. STORY 2: Sixes Elementary Student Reunites With Deployed Dad At Sixes Elementary School, a heartwarming surprise unfolded during lunch as fourth grader Caroline Janssen received an unexpected visit from her father, Master Sgt. Brian Janssen. Brian, who had been deployed overseas for six months, wasn't expected home until the next day. Students joyously cheered and thanked him for his service as Caroline and her dad shared a touching reunion. The heartwarming moment was celebrated by the school community, highlighting the bond between families and the sacrifices made by those in military service. STORY 3: Marty Ferrell Sworn in as Canton's New Police Chief Marty Ferrell was sworn in as the new Chief of Police for the Canton Police Department on March 27, officiated by Canton Mayor Bill Grant. With 33 years of experience, including serving as police chief in Marietta, Ferrell expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve Canton. He highlighted his commitment to learning from and contributing to the Canton community and police force. Ferrell's appointment follows the retirement of former Chief Stephen Merrifield, and Mayor Grant emphasized the importance of finding a qualified candidate who aligns with the department's values. Ferrell's leadership is anticipated to bring success to the Canton Police Department.   We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Passed along party lines, the bill prohibits sex education before sixth grade, mandates parental notification of library book checkouts, and enforces bathroom use based on birth certificate gender. Additionally, it bars transgender males from girls' sports. Republicans argue it safeguards children and empowers parents, while Democrats criticize the bill's amalgamation of contentious measures, labeling it a "Frankenstein bill." Concerns arise over its potential negative impact on LGBTQ students and its procedural approach. The bill requires further review by the House before final passage. STORY 5: Georgia Power and PSC Reach Agreement on Request for More Generating Capacity Georgia Power and state energy regulators have reached an agreement to boost the utility's electrical generating capacity, including constructing three new gas combustion turbines at Plant Yates near Newnan. According to Georgia Power's CFO, the revenue generated by this new capacity will outweigh the costs, resulting in savings of $2.89 per month for residential customers from 2026 to 2028. The agreement aims to maintain reliability, support economic development, and reduce rates for all customers. Georgia Power plans to add 2,600 megawatts of power to meet growing demand, utilizing gas turbines, power purchasing agreements, and expanding battery energy storage and distributed energy resources. However, the Southern Environmental Law Center opposes the agreement, criticizing it as favoring fossil fuels and potentially increasing energy bills, urging consideration of renewable options. The Public Service Commission is set to vote on the agreement on April 16. Commercial: INGLES 1 STORY 6: GOP Candidates for Georgia's 11th Congressional District Make Their Case to Voters Republican candidates for Georgia's 11th Congressional District, including incumbent U.S. Rep. Barry Loudermilk, Lori Pesta, and Mike Pons, discussed their goals at a forum in Canton. Hosted by Republican organizations, they'll compete in the primary to face Democratic candidates in November. Loudermilk emphasized addressing the "weaponization of government," aiming for a free and safe nation. Pesta stressed an "America First" agenda, focusing on veterans' care. Pons highlighted concerns about Congress's operation, advocating for fiscal responsibility and preserving American freedoms. All candidates shared a commitment to restoring the American dream. STORY 7: What to Do When You See a Snake As spring arrives, Georgia's state herpetologist, Daniel Sollenberger, receives numerous inquiries about snakes. Most are harmless, but concerns often revolve around identifying venomous species and what actions to take. Sollenberger advises caution and recommends giving snakes space rather than attempting to handle them. Resources like the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website help identify snakes. While most species are nonvenomous and protected by law, venomous ones should be left alone. Sollenberger urges people to support wildlife conservation efforts and offers tips for preventing snake encounters near homes. We'll have closing comments after this.    COMMERCIAL: HENRY CO SHERIFFS – ATL HEALTH FAIR   SIGN OFF –   Thanks again for listening to today's Cherokee Tribune Ledger podcast. . Former President Trump remains the frontrunner in the GOP race to the White House, despite former Ambassador Nikki Haley's increase in support amongst prominent donors. While the Haley campaign's growth is substantial, Kellyanne reminds listeners that donors don't determine elections, voters do. Uphill battle: The Democrat Party has long been regarded as the party for young, progressive, and minority voters, however with President Biden losing support from these key demographics the 2024 Presidential Election looks less reminiscent of 2020 by the day. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (11/03/2023): 3:05pm- Jersey Freedom, a political organization, has spent tens-of-thousands of dollars backing third party candidates in hopes of diluting the Republican vote in New Jersey's November 7th election. The ad campaign even included endorsements for candidates that have withdrawn from their races. In response, New Jersey Republican Party sued—alleging that the organization has violated campaign finance reporting laws by shielding donor information. On Friday, “Superior Court Judge Michael Blee said that Jersey Freedom may make no further expenditures in New Jersey, but acknowledged that with Election Day just five days away, his decision might be too late to matter,” according to a report from David Wildstein of The New Jersey Globe. You can read more here: https://newjerseyglobe.com/legislature/n-j-judge-freezes-bank-account-of-dark-money-group-backing-fake-candidate-bars-them-from-further-voter-communications/ 3:15pm- Susan Haigh of NBC Connecticut writes: “A state judge has taken the unusual step of ordering a new Democratic mayoral primary in Connecticut's largest city to be held after the Nov. 7 general election is completed. The decision comes after surveillance videos showed a woman stuffing what appeared to be absentee ballots into an outdoor ballot box days before the original primary. Superior Court Judge William Clark determined the allegations of possible malfeasance warrant throwing out the results of the Sept. 12 primary, which incumbent Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim won by 251 votes out of 8,173 cast. Absentee ballots secured his margin of victory.” You can read Haigh's full article: https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/judge-orders-new-bridgeport-mayoral-primary-after-surveillance-videos-show-possible-ballot-stuffing/3138308/ 3:20pm- On Monday, a Colorado District Court heard opening arguments in a legal case challenging Donald Trump's eligibility to appear on Colorado presidential ballots in 2024. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics argues that former President Donald Trump is disqualified from holding office under the Fourteenth Amendment's insurrection clause—alleging that Trump incited an insurrection on January 6th, 2021. Could the case ultimately end up before the Supreme Court of the United States? 3:25pm- According to a new Quinnipiac University poll, in a hypothetical three-way 2024 presidential race between Democrat Joe Biden, Republican Donald Trump, and Independent Robert F. Kennedy—Kennedy would win an astonishing 22% of the vote. The poll shows Trump would earn 36%, while President Biden would net 39%. 3:50pm- CNN's Manu Raju asked Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) why he pleaded guilty to pulling a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building last month if it was simply an accident—as Bowman has continually claimed. In pleading guilty to falsely pulling a fire alarm at a congressional office building, Rep. Bowman will have to pay a $1,000 fine, serve a three-month probation, and write a letter of apology. 4:05pm- House Republicans have passed a bill that would provide Israel with $14.3 billion in aid while simultaneously providing budgetary cuts that would make it deficit neutral. In a post to the social media platform X, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that the U.S. Senate would not even consider the bill because it separates funding from Ukraine and includes cuts to the IRS that he views as undesirable. 4:10pm- On Friday, the House of Representatives voted to cut funding to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by 39%—the vote was 213 to 203 along mostly party lines with Republican Congressmen Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Mike Lawler (R-NY), and Marc Molinaro (R-NY) voting against the bill. This bill illustrates new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson's (R-LA) determination to slash federal government spending. You can read more here: https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/4291864-house-gop-approves-cutting-epa-budget-by-nearly-40-percent/ 4:15pm- According to Rebecca Shabad of NBC News writes: “The judge presiding over Donald Trump's $250 million civil fraud trial on Friday imposed a partial gag order on members of the former president's legal team after he said they made ‘on the record, repeated, inappropriate remarks' about his principal law clerk. Judge Arthur Engoron's order said that Christopher Kise, Clifford Robert and Alina Habba, lawyers for the former president and his adult sons, ‘are prohibited from making any public statements, in or out of court, that refer to any confidential communications, in any form, between my staff and me. Failure to abide by this directive shall result in serious sanctions,' Engoron warned.” You can read Shabad's full report here: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/judge-trumps-civil-fraud-trial-expands-gag-order-include-former-presid-rcna123587 4:20pm- Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) is calling to ban Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) from future attendance in national security meetings. Menendez has been charged with acting as a foreign agent for Egypt and with accepting bribes in exchange for influence. 4:30pm- Dr. Victoria Coates— Former Deputy National Security Advisor & the Vice President of the Davis Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy at The Heritage Foundation—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss pro-Palestine protests at Philadelphia's 30th Street Station on Thursday night in which twenty-five people were detained by police. The order from the D.C. Circuit court of appeals also expedites the case.” You can read more here: https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4292877-appeals-court-trump-gag-order-election-interference/ 5:55pm- In a video message posted to social media, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced his latest campaign pledge: to create an online, national university that would provide free access to higher education for all Americans. 6:05pm- While appearing on CNBC, Target CEO Brian Cornell bizarrely blamed conservatives for creating an unsafe environment in stores following the retail chain's sale of transgender swimwear marketed towards children. Unable to name an instance of violence, Cornell claimed that conservatives threatened to burn merchandise, which never ultimately occurred. 6:15pm- While speaking with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, former Democrat presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard noted that LGBTQIA+ activists who support Palestine are ideologically confused. 6:20pm- Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) began a Senate Judiciary hearing by congratulating judicial nominees and then immediately asking them if they have ever been accused of sexual harassment. 6:30pm Chris Del Borrello—Republican candidate for New Jersey State Senate representing the 4th District—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his campaign in one of the most important elections across the entire state. Can Republicans take control of the state Senate on November 7th? 6:40pm- Jersey Freedom, a political organization, has spent tens-of-thousands of dollars backing third party candidates in hopes of diluting the Republican vote in New Jersey's November 7th election. The Iowa caucus is approaching, and candidates have a few short months to persuade voters who will soon cast their ballots. The latest FOX News Power Rankings show that former President Donald Trump remains the GOP frontrunner despite his mounting legal troubles. In key states like Arizona and North Carolina, Trump is polling ahead of incumbent President Joe Biden. Fox News politics co-anchor, anchor of The Story, and host of The Untold Story Podcast, Marth MacCallum, joins the Rundown to discuss where the candidates stand ahead of the third Republican debate next week and why there is growing pressure on some candidates to consider dropping out. FBI Director Christopher Wray warned that anti-semitism in America was reaching “historic” levels, noting that the Jewish population accounted for only 2.4 percent of the U.S. but faced nearly 60 percent of all religious-based hate crimes. In response to the Israel-Hamas war, there has been a surge in anti-semitism, especially on college campuses where some pro-Palestinian rhetoric has descended into hatred towards all Jews. Cornell University is one such campus, where prominent instances of anti-semitism and threats towards Jewish students have grabbed headlines. Simone, a Jewish student at Cornell University, joins to give her perspective on the anti-semitism on college campuses across the country and her hope for better education when it comes to the war and hate speech toward Jews.
