Some patients will even fly out to see her or fly her in just to get the chance to work with her one-on-one. In this episode, Dr. Stills dives into all things hormones. One of her favorite hormones for women is progesterone. If you are anxious, nervous, not sleeping, and carrying around water weight, getting progesterone can be a total game-changer for your life. If you are not feeling sane, a hormone is probably involved. Hormones are like a symphony because they all play together. Progesterone is a natural Valium. If you are low in progesterone, you can be very anxious, not sleeping, and carrying around water weight. When your body gets progesterone, it's like a giant exhale. [15:25] How Castor Oil Packs Can Help Support Menstruating Women Castor oil packs are a fantastic thing to do if you're a cycling woman; it does wonders for liver function. Also, castor oil makes you lie die with a pack for forty minutes; it's a great time to nourish yourself. Unfortunately, many people are out of sync with their cycles because they are out of sync with their life. We need to get out in nature, and we need to rest. All in all, we need to take the time to be more nourishing and connect with the moon and sun. [20:00] Dr. Stills Gives Tips For Keeping Your Liver Healthy Coffee enemas are great for people who have cancer. If you're doing castor oil, staying hydrated, and moving your lymphatic system, you will do a lot for your liver. Make sure you are sweating! Also, start your morning with some warm lemon water. For the liver, Dr. Stills recommends taking phosphatidylcholine. Eat your biggest meal in the middle of the day when your digestive fire is most robust. Lastly, don't eat food three hours before you go to bed. [29:55] Death, Taxes, and Menopause: It's A Natural Transition For All Women You don't have to suffer during menopause. If you're suffering, most likely you are not eating right, you aren't sleeping right, or you don't love yourself right. Your hormones drop during menopause. It's time to get them rebalanced! We're doing ourselves a big disservice if we're not replacing our hormones. Remember, menopause is not a disease; it's a natural transition all women undergo. [36:15] Blood, Urine, and Saliva: What To Know About Testing Your Hormones Bloodwork is the way that most women have their hormones tested. However, bloodwork is very misleading unless you look at it from a functional perspective. You shouldn't rely on blood when talking about progesterone and estrogen. Dr. Stills is a massive fan of 24-hour urine. You can do saliva samples throughout your cycle if you're a menstruating woman. Dr. Stills likes to use saliva testing for cortisol testing. [42:30] Thyroid Blood Testing and Listening To Your Body Bloodwork is excellent for thyroid health. Your thyroid levels can look okay, but your hair is falling out, you're constipated, you can't lose weight, and you have brain fog. That's when Dr. Stills will want to check iodine levels and temperatures. Just because bloodwork is okay doesn't mean you don't have symptoms. My guest today is Sal Jeffries and he's a human performance and behaviour coach who has experienced menopause by proxy alongside his partner. As a wonderfully intelligent thinker, you're going to be inspired by his personal perspective, that hopefully you'll want to share with your partners. We talk about: The changes he first started to notice in his partner. His reactions to these changes. The biggest struggles HE faced as a partner (because understanding each other is FUNDAMENTAL to our healing). The freeze state explained and how to shift out of it. Trying THIS approach instead of trying to fix your partner. Why perpetuating power struggles are NOT the way to resolution.Understanding Peri-Rage and how to deal with it. The MOST IMPORTANT state of being when navigating relational issues caused by menopause. The ONE conversational tip that has the potential to heal deep relational wounds. How echoes, spirals and fractals may affect our menopause. Why movement is so much more than just movement. How tapping into this one law of physics can profoundly change your life as you age. This episode is brought to you by Rupa Health, Bioptimizers, and Paleovalley. Contrary to popular belief, women cannot follow the same health and fitness protocols as men and expect the same results. Unlike men, women in their reproductive years have specific hormonal considerations, and their rise and fall throughout the month impact everything from energy to focus, mood, metabolism, and the ability to adapt to good-for-you stressors like exercise or fasting. Meanwhile, perimenopause and menopause pose a whole other list of considerations to keep women feeling well.In today's episode, I talk with Dr. Mindy Pelz and Dr. Sara Gottfried about why we need to prioritize teaching women about their hormones.Dr. Mindy Pelz is a renowned holistic health expert and one of the leading voices in educating women about their hormonal health. She has empowered hundreds of thousands of people around the world to tap into their bodies' innate healing abilities through her “5-Step Approach,” which uses fasting, personalized nutrition, stress management, chemical detoxification, and lifestyle changes to optimize health and slow the aging process.Dr. Sara Gottfried is a board-certified physician who graduated from Harvard and MIT. Women's nutritional and fitness needs are different. While there are indeed some incredible female bodybuilders going for significant muscle mass gains, most of us have other goals. And that leaves women with a lot of questions. In this episode, I answer the following questions: Why is protein intake so important? How much protein should I be eating? Will too much protein make me bulky or fat? Should I try a protein shake? The questions about protein are nearly endless. If you're worried about menopause, don't be. It's a great time to be alive for menopausal women. Why? "There has never been so many of us. We need not feel invisible or marginalised. Never before have so many women reached this stage in their lives so independent, educated, professional and in leadership position. And because of this we have an opportunity to be part of shaping a monumental paradigm shift this recognises women (and women's menopause) as the powerful transformational force that it is."Those are the words of my podcast guest today, Lil Glamben. No matter what kind of healing or balance you're seeking in this season of life, you've probably realized that quick fixes and shortcuts rarely bring about lasting results. But taking that initial step towards educating yourself is the first stride toward creating real change. In this episode, I sit down with Ayurveda Health Coach, Carina Greweling, who helps women achieve lasting hormone balance by restoring healthy sleep, gut health, and energy. She's a certified Ayurveda Hormone Coach, Chinese medicine practitioner, and naturopath. In this crash course in Ayurvedic wisdom, Carina explains the three constitution types known as doshas, which are rooted in the five fundamental elements of earth, water, fire, air, and ether. According to Ayurvedic medicine, the doshas play a significant role in shaping an individual's physical, emotional, and mental characteristics. This was all new to me, but I found it fascinating. It's a really interesting complimentary approach (that's been around for thousands of years!) to conventional approaches to supporting midlife wellness. We talk about: Understanding Ayurveda as a holistic system of healing, that includes the physical, spiritual, and emotional aspects, within the context of the universe and nature The three constitution types and why you might resonate with more than just one The influence of the earth's seasons on Vata, Pitta, and Kapha How drinking alcohol might impact your constitution type The significance of aligning lifestyle habits—such as sleep, nutrition, and movement—with your constitution type You can learn more about Carina and connect with her on her website at https://carinagreweling.com/, and listen to her podcast THRIVE. It can feel frustrating when you're doing everything right, and you hit a plateau. Hot flashes, weight gain, and energy issues are massive symptoms. Menopause is natural. However, suffering is optional. In a quick window of time, we can feel improvements and feel empowered. [07:10] The Importance of Maintaining Healthy Ovarian Function We can restore and keep healthy ovarian function by looking at hormone disrupters and clearing them from our bodies. Plus, we should support the liver and detoxification. Healthy habits will allow us to have our menstrual cycles for longer - it's a longevity marker. One of the risk factors for diabetes and pre-diabetes is menopause. A higher risk factor is if you've had a hysterectomy. Thirdly, if you've had your ovaries removed, you have a significantly higher risk of diabetes. If you had your ovaries removed, even before 65, your risk of cardiovascular disease is almost double. The association with diabetes tells how important it is to maintain healthy ovarian function. [09:10] Why Women Need More Ketones Between The Ages of 35 and 55 During ages 35 - 55, the use of glucose in a women's brain significantly decreases. Instead, you shift to using ketones for fuel in the brain. Dr. Cabeca emphasizes the importance of greens. Depending on your symptoms, you have to pause greens, or you may have to pause meat. Sometimes we need to challenge our gut bacteria, and sometimes, we have to support digestive enzymes. It depends on your unique needs. [14:15] Why You May Want To Consider Using A Progesterone Cream Dr. Anna Cabeca is a massive fan of progesterone. There are progesterone receptors in our brain, bones, and breasts. Progesterone supports healthy breast tissue. Plus, progesterone will support healthy metabolism and healthy neuroendocrine function. Dr. Cabeca has used progesterone in men for anxiety and insomnia; it is a total game-changer. Oral progesterone is excellent if you are working on sleep. Check out Balance if you're looking for a progesterone cream: https://drannacabeca.com/products/pura-balance-ppr-cream. [22:40] Gratitude and Positive Thinking Can Make You Happier You have to pause negative thinking. Negative thoughts will predominate our lives if we allow them to. Try gratitude and praying. There is always something to be grateful for. Gratitude is so easy to do, making it easy not to do. People have 60,000 thoughts per day - most of them are negative. It's time to pause and think about gratitude. [28:45] Using Mighty Maca To Alkalize The Body and Balance Hormones Ideally, we're working on restoring our natural ovarian production or natural adrenal production. When Dr. Cabeca looks at fertility, she will look at a 21-day progesterone level. Mighty Maca is something Dr.Cabeca recommends for adrenal support.
