Jeremy Corray is the Executive Vice President of Coolfire Media and leads the creative vision behind some amazingly modern video marketing campaigns for his client's brands and businesses. However, in this podcast, we zero in on something much more down the Pop-Marketing rabbit hole, where we have a deep discussion about the wonderfully weird origin of Voltron, the 80's western introduction of Japanese-style animation. Jeremy has a particularly personal connection with Voltron, having worked with the IP and helping launch one of the modern reboots from the unexpecting home of the US introduction to Japanese animation in St. Louis, Missouri. Jeremy is an awesome creative mind, and this episode helps remind us of the power of creative constraints to create iconic ideas and how many of the best moments in popular culture come from a business problem solved creatively. This is the first of 2 parts for our 5th Anniversary of Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast, which includes 3 special surprise guests from the Voltron Universe! During each guest segment, we give away 1 of the 5 total prizes in our #LetsVoltron5 contest! So, there are 3 prizes given away in Part 1! Neil Ross is our 1st special guest and despite the fact that he was one of the 6 original voice actors to work on Voltron: Defender of the Universe back in 1984, he has blessed us by having 2 new projects come out recently. He was the voice of Voltron in the Happy Honda Days ad we talked about in our last podcast, and he wrote a new autobiography called "Vocal Recall: A Life in Radio and Voiceovers". We are proud to have Neil on the podcast for the third time and to see that he mentioned listening to our podcast in his book! He doesn't mention "Let's Voltron podcast" by name, but he was talking about our interview with Franklin Cofod in the 33rd Chapter of the book. If you would like to pick up Neil's book, there are 4 different formats to choose, including paperback, audiobook (read by Neil himself, and doing some of the voices he's famous for!), Kindle, and PDF file. Net proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to 1) Broadcasters Foundation of America & 2) The Actors Fund Order here: https://www.neilbook.com/order-the-book.html Our 2nd guest on the 5th Anniversary Podcast is Bob Koplar, President of World Events Productions in St. Louis, Missouri, the copyright, IP and trademark owner of Voltron. Bob gives us every indication that both Voltron merchandise and Voltron projects will continue in the future, although there is nothing next in line after Voltron Legendary Defender just yet. Our 3rd guest on the 5th Anniversary Podcast is Jeremy Corray, VP of Digital Entertainment at CoolFire Studios, and also the former Creative Director of WEP and the former co-host of Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast. You never know what special information about Voltron that Jeremy might reveal, as he gives us his Top 5 Voltron moments in his career. We hope to have Jeremy back for another podcast soon, where he reveals some of the secrets behind "what almost was" or "what might have been" while he was working with Voltron at WEP. Here are the 3 prizes we are giving away in this podcast: Our 5th Anniversary Podcast didn't only come with 2 great podcast episodes. It also came with a really cool bunch of designs from 5 amazing Voltron fan artists! Although we don't introduce the artists for this 5th Anniversary Podcast until Part 2, we want to share these designs with you here, AND let you know you can buy these on our TeePublic store! The first 2 designs are SO BIG, that we can't put them on a t-shirt or other apparel, but they can can be put on posters, prints, notebooks, tapestries, pillows and stickers and things like that. Here are 108 characters you love, all in one cohesive design: And here is the t-shirt design that will also look great on all apparel, stickers, pillows, mugs, phone cases, prints, posters, and more: And here are the designs that include the 5th Anniversary Logo that we used to promote this on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram: You can get these wonderful designs on our TeePublic store, and for the first 72 hours, they are all on sale at 30% OFF at: https://www.teepublic.com/stores/let-s-voltron-podcast?ref_id=5313 We are so proud of the work that our "5th Anniversary Five" artists did on these designs, so please make sure you listen to Part 2 of the 5th Anniversary Podcast to hear how this wonderful collaboration came together like Voltron! Happy 1st Anniversary to Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast! I am proud to share this review of everything that happened on the Let's Voltron Podcast from this past year, as well as some anniversary greetings that Voltron Fans left us on voicemail. As I went through recording this 35th podcast episode, it became very clear that I have a lot of people to thank for making this past year so special for all the Voltron Fans. So, I have to start by thanking the wonderful people at World Events Productions for carrying the Voltron torch these past 30 years, and for coming on the podcast to share the information that can only come from the home office in St. Louis. So, a very special thank you to Ted Koplar, Bob Koplar and Tiffany Ilardi. Extra thanks to Bob Koplar for helping me walk through all these podcast episodes. I really want to thank Jeremy Corray for helping get this podcast started in December 2013, and for his continued support as a resource and occasional co-host. I want to thank Michael French for making many episodes special with his expert commentary and for carrying the Blazing Sword as a great co-host. I have to thank Dan Jolley for being a great fan-favorite guest and a super co-host when we review the original Voltron episodes. Big thank you to Gregory Tyler for being a great Voltron Fan and for bringing a comprehensive look at Vehicle Team Voltron to the listeners of the podcast. The rest of the people on this list have all been terrific contributors to the podcast and were all important to the success of the 1st year of Let's Voltron. Here they are, in no particular order: Mark Oliver, Tommy Yune, George Sohn, Seth Green, Clare Grant, Brian “Smitty” Smith, Lucas Morrell, Marc Handler, Franklin Cofod, John Teichmann, Casey Snider, Chee-toy, Talley LaFlamme, Moira, Brandon Thomas, Cubbieberry, Rileah Vanderbilt, Chris Wofford, Neil Ross, Josh McKillips, N. Steven Harris, Jacob Chabot, Linda Endinger, Todd Matthy, Tara Scully, Traci Todd, Josh Bernard, Aaron Goins, Jon Eckert, Tony and Rose Tuski, Kim Morrell, and Master Harry Pfister (a true inspiration). Thank you so much to all the fans that submitted great questions for many of the guests in all of the episodes, and for sharing your thoughts, comments, memories, and super Voltron fandom. Thank you all for making 2014 the best year ever for me and here's hoping that 2015 has the ability to top it! Thanks for listening! See you all in 2015!

In the first of two podcast episodes covering Vehicle Team Voltron, Marc welcomes special guest Gregory Tyler (Dudley Drule Right on Voltron.com Forums), who is a fan of everything Voltron, but has a special love for Panosh Place Voltron Toys and is working on creating his own 3D-printed Panosh Place Style Vehicle Voltron. Marc and Greg cover mostly history, comparisons, and story-related aspects of Vehicle Team Voltron in this episode. The second episode, which will be released next week, will cover a little more story-related questions, but will really dive deep into the tie-in merchandise that was associated with the Vehicle Voltron show, and we'll talk about Greg's own fan projects. At the top of the episode, Marc mentions some other coverage of Vehicle Volton that came before this podcast. Obviously, we don't want to suggest that there hasn't been a lot more written about or videos that talk about Vehicle Voltron, but these are what we consider to be 3 of the top ones that cover “the other Voltron”. The first is a video that was produced by WEP several years ago, and it is narrated by former WEP Creative Director, Jeremy Corray. It is entitled Lion Voltron VS. Vehicle Voltron: The Fans Sound Off! The second is a site that was created by a fan named Purrsia, called VoltronCentral.net and it contains information, character bios, episode descriptions, links, videos, pictures and a whole lot more. It breaks everything down by Dairugger and Vehicle Team Voltron in their own respective categories. It is a really good resource for those looking for answers to your Vehicle Voltron questions. The third is the 2-Part Video Retrospective on Vehicle Voltron done recently by RetroBlasting. This comprehensive look at the Vehicle Voltron show and the merchandise that came with it really covers a lot of ground, supported by fantastic visuals. Watch them here: Part 1 of RetroBlasting's Vehicle Voltron Retrospective Part 2 of RetroBlasting's Vehicle Voltron Retrospective Instead of these 2 Vehicle team Voltron podcast episodes re-hashing these other stories, we would like to think that this discussion between Marc and Greg complements them in a respectful way, while diving deep into the substance of the show, its history, and the merchandise and fandom that surround it. Marc also made 2 Big Announcements during this podcast. The first is a worldwide gathering of Voltron fans online on September 10. This “Voltron 30th Anniversary Marathon” in the form of a Google Hangout on Air will be hosted by Let's Voltron: The Official Voltron Podcast, and it will start at 2 PM ET and run a full 8 hours, until 10 PM ET. You need to have a Google Account to participate. Fans can chat with each other while they watch a programmed YouTube playlist that will include Voltron episodes from every series, as well as special interviews, celebrity reels, robot chicken sketches, old commercials, and fan films. You won't want to miss this chance to gather with Voltron Fans from all over the world, all at the same time, and watch your favorite giant robot in all his glory. The second announcement was that Let's Voltron will release a special September 10 30th Anniversary podcast, with WEP Managing Director Tiffany Ilardi joining us as a special guest. Also, Chris Wofford from Acidfree Gallery will be announcing the winner of the “Show Us Your Voltron” picture contest. Original Series Associate Producer John Teichmann gives Marc and Jeremy a first-hand account of what it was like to be involved with the Voltron phenomenon from the beginning, and what keeps people talking about it to this very day. John identifies some of the key features that made broadcasters buy into the Voltron promise, including excellent stereo sound by Paul Vitello and his team, superior music by John Petersen and Dale Schacker, and great writing by Jameson Brewer, Marc Handler, and the rest of the writing team. John gives insight into a side of the Voltron story we had not ever heard before, and details what he has been doing since Voltron finished its original television run in 1986. In part one of a two-part episode, Marc, Mike and Jeremy all interview Marc Handler, the head writer for the Original series after Jameson Brewer, who also wrote the Fleet of Doom special, which brought together the Lion Force Voltron and the Vehicle Voltron teams. Marc Handler was the Head Writer for Voltron: The Third Dimension, the first US-produced 3D animated series. Marc Handler is currently living and working in Shanghai, China, and was the WEP representative that worked with Toei Animation in Japan when WEP commissioned Toei to produce the 20 original episodes of Lion Force Voltron back in 1985. Just to show how much Marc loves the fans, he recorded these two episodes with us between 12:30 AM and 2:45 AM in Shanghai. His enthusiasm is still very strong for Voltron and the fans of the series. Thank you, Marc! Marc gives our hosts a lesson about the original creators of the the Voltron animation from Japan. Humbly, Marc pays homage to the Japanese animators and writers that brought us this wonderful hero and characters that we have loved for 30 years! If you ever wondered what story Marc would pitch for the Live-Action Voltron Movie, you'll hear it here first on the Let's Voltron Podcast. We know you all gave us great questions for Marc Handler. Those questions will all be answered in Part 2 of our interview with Marc Handler, coming next week. So, come back here for Part 2, because Marc Handler will give great insight for writers. If you want to become a writer, or improve on your writing, Marc gives some great tips. Thank you for listening!

In this first full episode of the Let's Voltron Podcast for 2014, Marc is joined by Mike French once again, and the discussion is a chronological History of Voltron Toys, from the era preceeding the 1984 launch of the Original Voltron Series to The Present. Mike French is the administrator of the Official Voltron Facebook and Twitter accounts. He also runs the retroblasting.com website, which includes a video channel, where you can see reviews of movies, cartoons, and toys from the 80's. In this episode, Mike talks about his interactions with the Voltron fans, now that he has been the administrator of the Official Voltron Facebook and Twitter accounts, since the new year began. Marc tells the listeners about the email address for the Let's Voltron Podcast, which is: letsvoltronpodcast@gmail.com Feel free to send us an email, and we'll put you on the list for notifications when we post a new episode, and possibly a future newsletter. Marc and Mike spent the rest of the episode talking about the History of Voltron Toys, in chronological order, starting in the early 80's, when the first Beast King GoLion and Dairugger toys were available from Popy in Japan. One of the toys we mentioned was the LJN Giant Voltron Commander Radio Controlled Robot. We talked about a commercial that promoted that toy, and here is a link to that 30-second blast from the past. If you follow the links from that one, you'll see there is a whole page of old Voltron commercials available to view. I'd say commercials have come a long way since then. We didn't mention it in the Podcast, but it has just been announced that the 30th Anniversary Voltron Collector's Set from Toynami will be available on April 30. That news broke here. You can still pre-order that set here. We also mentioned in the podcast that we would provide you with links for some of the Voltron Toy Archives that have been available on the web for fans of all the toys mentioned in this episode. Here are those links: http://www.action-figures.ca/voltron.htm http://www.virtualtoychest.com/voltron/voltron.html http://www.collectiondx.com/voltrontoys Thanks for listening!

Marc and Jeremy wish all Voltron Fans a very Merry Christmas! Marc talks about the response the Let's Voltron Podcast has received from Voltron Fans all over the world. This overwhelming response has placed the Let's Voltron Podcast at the top of the New and Noteworthy list on the iTunes store. One of the suggestions from fans was to have a transcript of each Podcast available on this notes page for the hearing impaired Voltron Fans. We are looking into a solution for this and will have it available when we have worked out all the details. Our RSS feed link is available (here) for people who listen on Podcast apps like PocketCast. Marc and Jeremy have a very in-depth conversation with Tommy Yune (@StudioYune on Twitter), who is the Creative Director for Harmony Gold, the home of Robotech. Tommy is the cover artist and writer for the Robotech/Voltron #1 Comic. Many behind-the-scenes details are revealed in this podcast, and Tommy, with Jeremy's permission, "blows the lid off" the second issue in the series, with information you won't hear anywhere else. Spoiler alert! Jeremy thanks fans for the years he has spent being the voice of Voltron as the Creative Director at WEP. He will be working as the VP of Digital Entertainment at Coolfire Studios (@coolfiremedia), starting in 2014. You can still enjoy Jeremy's sparkling wit and engaging personality on the Let's Voltron Podcast every week, as he takes on his new role of "Voltron Fan Ambassador": A New Coran for the Voltron Universe! On this episode of MTR I had the pleasure of interviewing Jeremy Corray who is the Creative Director for the upcoming Voltron Force animated series debuting next week on Nicktoons. My desire to do this interview stemmed from my inner Voltron fan boy but also from the desire to learn more about the creative process that went into bringing this childhood icon of to life for a new generation. Jeremy was a pleasure to interview and provided so much insight on the series that my excitement for its debut was magnified ten fold. In speaking with Jeremy we were privy to some of the inner workings of the shows creative process and the rationale that was applied to certain character depictions. Overall I know many fans enjoyed knowing that their childhood icon was going to be done justice. MTR would like to thank Jeremy for giving us wonderful opportunity to share this with our audience. Make sure to stop by the official Voltron website and Facebook fan page. You can also follow Jeremy on twitter via @Voltron.
