Sunday Morning Expositional Message
Readings for the Feast (Solemnity!) of Christ the King - Ezekiel 34:11-12; 15-17 Matthew 25:31-46We conclude our liturgical year with this feast day celebration. Special Guest, Bridget Zenk, and I explore the idea of what it means to be living under royal leadership; what are steps we can take to help us be more like sheep and less like goats; and another take on what it may mean to sit at the right hand of the Son. May you celebrate this feast day well.Special thanks to Bridget not only for appearing as special guest, but also for her composition and performing of our intake and outtake music. Thanks to you for being alongside of me and breaking open God's Word! May you be blessed. Comments? Send them my way at pdjoezenk@gmail.com

The Finale is finally here! A Certain Doom! After all this time the finale is here! For episode 117 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Brian and Kyle are joined by new co-host and long time listener LT to discuss the suspenseful ending of the Whisperers Wars. The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 16 titled A Certain Doom. We also discuss the first episode of the new spinoff World Beyond Season 1 Episode 1 titled Brave. We did get the boss battle with Daryl and Beta (with an assist by Negan) but we did agree with our listeners that it was sorely lacking and almost could have missed it if you blinked. Maggie does return with a cool sidekick. King E, Yumiko, Eugene, and the Princess do keep going to find Stephanie but end up surrounded by some stormtrooper looking dudes. And Carol and Lydia end up saving everyone from the horde and become BFFs…lol well not really. So join us as we discuss the Finale of Season 10 of The Walking Dead, A Certain Doom. Of all the leaders on The Walking Dead, which is a show that takes place in a zombie apocalypse, I would choose the flamboyant, Shakespearean Black man with the giant tiger. Why? Because he, who goes by the name King Ezekiel, is the most rhetorical character. When I say that Ezekiel is the most rhetorical character, I mean that he is the most aware that meaning is something that has to be created--that there is no such thing as the “right” belief or the most “authentic” person. There are just different performances of reality and authenticity. And that’s the focus for today: what does it mean to be a rhetorical character? gonna talk about a word you may have heard around the way: ethos. Why Ezekiel’s rhetorical qualities make him the best leader, especially in a zombie apocalypse. And also my complex thoughts on the cliche: Fake it till you make it. I also push back against this obsession with “who” your leaders are…”who” really is Trump and “who” really is Biden. The habits of a leader give you more than enough information to make a decision. Sure, you can wait for the deep conspiracy theories to be proven right. You can spend all of your time asking about the underlying truths of “who they are.” Or you can just look at their decisions, as a pattern. You can ask, “let’s suppose this is all just one giant act. If this is the leadership act they’ve chosen, are they the person I want as my leader?” In that case, I would want King Ezekiel, because his behavior reveals who he thinks human beings are: highly imaginative creatures in need of myth and larger than life narrative that inspires them to a community of belonging. Quick announcement after a long hiatus! A lot is going on in the world. It’s a wonderful and terrible time to be a rhetorician #blacklivesmatter and #stillpodcasting RhetoricLee Speaking will be back soon with a new episode feat. King Ezekiel of The Walking Dead. In the meantime, head over to the podcast Rhetoricity hosted by fellow rhetorician Eric Detweiler and check out a new episode featuring several analyses of juxtaposition (putting two things side by side to make an argument), including one from yours truly about discriminatory design in the Obama-Trump Inaugural photos. https://rhetoricity.libsyn.com/ Here's a little more from Rhetoricity: This episode of Rhetoricity features contributions from four rhetoric scholars: Kati Fargo Ahern, Ben Harley, Lee Pierce, and Rachel Presley. Their pieces address questions asked by previous guest Damien Smith Pfister: "What juxtapositions in rhetorical studies have you found fruitful, generative, aiding in the process of invention or theorizing, and/or what juxtapositions ought we have? Is there a juxtaposition of two things that we ought to explore but we’re not currently exploring?" The contributors respond to Pfister's questions from a variety of angles, touching on memoir, sonic rhetorics, everyday life, visual rhetoric, discriminatory design, cartography, and indigeneity. You can find the photos referenced in Pierce's piece here. Sit tight and I’ll be back soon with the next episode of RhetoricLee Speaking! *Learn more at https://rhetoriclee.com *Follow the show on Facebook and on Instagram @rhetoriclee for more teasers, highlights, and awesome graphics *Don’t miss an episode. Join us as we break down the episode discussing Beta and his mental health, the communities 'cunning plan', Carol and how everyone always just seems to forgive her, Negan and Lydia, Daryl and little ass kicker aka Judith and of course the introduction of Princess... who is not queen as that would be old and pretentious... isn't that right KING Ezekiel. We hope you enjoy the show!
Brian, Kyle, and Mark talk through The Walking Dead, Season 10 Episode 14, titled Look at the Flowers. This episode was written by Channing Powell and directed by Daisy Von Scherler Meyer. Alpha sure was busy in this episode. Negan and Daryl bonded over some dead whisperers while Carol was just off for some alone time only to have Alpha pestering her over the nagging consequences of her actions. Beta, well, he goes on a trip to open his eyes and ends having two faces... no really... half Beta walker mask and half Alpha's skin. He's even more creepy... and dangerous now that he has a horde of his own. And Eugene, Yumiko, and King Ezekiel set off to meet up with a possible new group that ends with a flamboyant stranger. Strange indeed.

Matthew and Dean ratchet back the criticism a little bit to shed some light onto Khary Payton who is forced out of his comfort zone to bring some actual emotion to King Ezekiel. Both Matthew and Dean agree that Zeke shines this week, and they were both pleased to see Carol getting back to some of her old ways. There are still problems with the execution of the action and the lads are forced to go back to season three to remind people of the excellent action and gun-play that once was. We meet the residents of the Kingdom with their King Ezekiel and his tiger Shiva. What are we to make of these new characters. Listen in to our podcast to find out. We also play some feedback from a listener who's disappointed with the season premier.
We reconvene this week for a refreshing new episode of AMC's The Walking Dead. After the bleak, depressing and utterly shocking premiere episode last week, this was a complete, and welcome, change of pace. We meet King Ezekiel, the audacious leader of the Kingdom, a new stronghold of survivors. The story centers around Carol and Morgan, who find themselves questioning who they are and which direction they want to go now, after leaving Alexandria last season. It was a great episode, and Ezekiel is a fascinating figure. Listen in to us as we talk about the episode and then veer off into childhood memories and other ephemera. Let us know what you thought by sending an email to mail@z-realm.com or post a message on our Facebook page.
THE WELL The brutal premiere is over and fans are hopeful that the second episode of this season brings a little vengeance with it. We'll finally see what Carol and Morgan have been up to. They've found themselves in “The Kingdom,” hopefully a safer place than where Rick and the gang are headed. In a sneak peak for this episode, Morgan is wheeling Carol to go meet King Ezekiel, who rules the place they've been staying in. As the people of “The Kingdom” have been working to get Carol back on her feet, Morgan's been helping out around the place, trying to make a home of it. In typical Carol fashion though, she is suspicious of it. And then, of course, we have Rick's group- who are trying to deal with the switch of power to Negan. We're curious how the 9 who survived will be affected after Negan's mind games. Will Daryl blame himself for Glenn's death? How will Maggie and Sasha (and ever Rosita) overcome losing their loved ones? Is Maggie's baby okay? We have so many questions and hopefully a handful are answered on Sunday. Source: CULTURESS
