Never Give Up w/ John Joseph

John Joseph is the definition of never giving up. John grew up in some of the most abusive environments a human can withstand. John nearly lost his human form on more than one occasion. John slung dope and shot dope. He was an addict and a criminal. Then finding himself begging for a way to stay above. John found service to be his path.    Welcome to episode two hundred twelve of Above Ground Podcast. This week we are joined by John Joseph. John is a vegan triathlete, author, and  singer in his namesake band,  Bloodclot (Upstate Records). John wrote the help yourself classic, The PMA Effect; how a positive mental attitude can make you the badass you were born to be. This week we discuss substance abuse, real life on the streets and just who you need to become for a life of survival of the fittest. This is dedicated to the memories of Kevin McQuaid and Frank McGowan.    From John's earliest days the deck was stacked against him. Having gone from an abusive home where his prize fighter dad would use his mom for a punching bag. Then through the horrendous foster system where  his childhood was nearly erased from existence. Rather taking his chances, John, eventually ran away and claimed Alphabet City as his playground and training ground.     John found a spiritual path out of the pain and torment he was in. Finding the teachings of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.  John learned that freedom comes in the form of service.  Begging for help on the steps of the Krishna Temple, was the opening of the light.    John Joseph says knowledge without application is useless. Don't just read his books. Use them. Use them to find your own path. Knowledge can take us from hell to heaven in a minute.  Get a camp together and don't be surprised by the ones who leave. Be surprised by the ones who stay. Stay humble and more tolerant than a tree and don't let your ego get in the way of your life.    John is currently the singer for Upstate Records recording artist Bloodclot. Thank you to Mario Cangemi for connecting us with John.  Check out John at these links:   https://www.upstaterecordsny.com https://www.johnjosephdiscipline.com https://prabhupadabooks.com

The Musafir Stories - India Travel Podcast

This week, The Musafir Stories speaks with Ila Reddy, a returning guest and listener as she takes us to the ancient kingdoms of Newar.  Today's destination: Nepal Nearest Airport: Tribhuvan International Airport, KTM Nearest Railway Station: N/A Prerequisites:  N/A Packing: Pack according to the season Time of the year:  September - Feb Length of the itinerary: 9 days Itinerary Highlights:  Ila takes us overseas as we discover the Newari capitals of Nepal - Patan, Bhaktapur along with other places like Panauti and Bharatpur! Historically, the Nepal valley and adjoining areas made up a confederation known as the Nepal Mandala. Until the 15th century, Bhaktapur was its capital, when two other capitals, Kathmandu and Lalitpur (Patan), were established.  The trip was done with the Community Homestay Network (CHN). The Community Homestay Network (CHN) is a social enterprise that supports a network of homestays run by local women and families across Nepal. Their homestay model provides hosts with an additional source of income and the opportunity to meet travelers from around the world, while travelers get a taste of the local way of life.  The best part is that 80% of the revenue goes directly to the community and is used for family and household expenses, education, personal development, community activities, and community development We begin the journey by flying into Kathmandu and making our way to Patan/Lalitpur, one of the ancient cities of the Newari kingdom.  The Durbar Square is one of the iconic locations of Patan that is made up of a number of temples and provides a view into the wonderful architecture of the region.  The prominent temples of Patan Durbar Square include:: Krishna Temple, Royal Palace Patan, Jagannarayan Temple, Keshav Narayan Temple, Char Naarayan Temple, Golden Temple and others.  On the east side of the square looms the impressive Ancient Royal Palace, which dates back to the late 1600s. With its red-brick walls, tiered rooftop pavilions and latticed window screens, the palace is a shining example of traditional Nepalese architecture. The next stop is the Golden Temple Also known as Kwa Bahal and Hiranyavarna Mahavihara, this Buddhist monastery takes its English name from the beautiful golden metalwork which adorns its façade. We also speak of the rich traditional food from Nepal - including local candy, thalis, daal and sabzi.  The next pitstop is Bharatpur - to experience the life of the Tharu community that lives around the Chitwan national park. Besides the rhinos and mustard fields, the experience is all about the time spent with the community, sampling their way of life, food and celebrations!  Ila makes a short trip back to Patan again, which they used as their base camp. In this leg, Ila covers the Paubha painting workshop which she was a part of. The painting is native to Nepal and is similar to the Tibetan Thangka paintings and involves detailing of Hindu mythological figures and deities and Mandalas. Paubha painting is treated as a form of meditation by its practitioners, and mastering the pattern of even a single leaf, wave, or cloud can take weeks. The next stop from Patan is Bhaktapur, another of the capitals of the Valley. Bhaktapur, the "City of Devotees," is also known for Newar traditions, food, and artisans, and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal The Bhaktapur Durbar Square - is similar to the one in Patan, except that the temples are more massive. There are several smaller squares or chowks and the one with pottery shops was particularly beautiful. Like Patan, the area is best explored on foot and the local mitho doi (similar to Bengali mishti doi, or sweet curd) is a must-try! Ila moves to Panuati after spending time in Bhaktapur -  Panauti is a historical city in Nepal, originally it was a small state given by King Bhupatindra Malla as a dowry to his sister.  Ila explores a few temples, walked around the market and alleys, and even made a day trip to Namobuddha Monastery, located atop a hill and offering exceptional views of the snow peaks. The final stop is a quick return to Patan where Ila takes part in a Ranjana lippi workshop, the traditional script of the Newari people as well as a quick visit to Kathmandu to visit the Pashupatinath temple and a sound bath meditation!                                                                             Links: Link to Ila's substack: https://ilareddy.substack.com/ Link to blog posts:  https://ilareddy.substack.com/p/nepal-part1 https://ilareddy.substack.com/p/nepal-part2 Link to Community Homestay network: https://www.communityhomestay.com/ Link to Ila's episode on Nagaland:  Ep. 110: Headhunters of Nagaland with Ila Reddy The ...Applehttps://podcasts.apple.com › podcast › ep-110-headhu... The Kathak Podcast : Kathak Ka Chakkar

Episode Notes Sonali Loomba completed her post graduate in Human Resource Management from India and worked at a corporate sector in Bangalore for over 6 years before she decided to quite and completely dedicate her self to kathak as full time performing artist. During her college years she started learning Kathak which was in 2006 under the guidance of Gurus (teachers) Hari and Chethana from Bangalore, India. She believes Indian Classical Dance is like an ocean which is limitless. The deeper you dive in the more beauty you see of the form. It can take up-to several years to even call oneself a master of this art form. She also visits India often to advance in her studies of Kathak under Gurus.. She moved to Utah,USA in 2017 from India and the first performance she gave was at the Krishna Temple in Salt lake city at one of their events and was really appreciated for bringing Kathak to Utah. She has also benefited largely from this form in terms of developing strong mental and physical health because of the complexities and the various body movements this dance form has to offer. Thus she started offering kathak classes to the community because an art form like this needs to be preserved and promoted, She went on to establish her dance school in Utah, Kaladharaa Dance School which focuses on imparting the nuances of this ancient form to others in the community as a way of passing it down to generations to come. As a performer, She has given numerous dance presentations as a soloist in India and USA. She has performed in leading dance festivals like Hampi Utsav (Hampi, India), Brahmotsav (Tirupathi, India), North American Festival of Colors ( Utah, USA and Vegas, USA) ,Living traditions ( Utah, USA) , World Folk fest ( Utah, USA), Utah Arts festival ( Utah, USA) to name a few. She has recently presented kathak at the 2019 TEDx Salt Lake City. I have been able to establish from reliable sources that. 1.Christianity was nothing new and was sourced from elsewhere. 2.There was Sanatana Dharma presence in the middle east. 3.Interesting that The Jews were the descendants of the Yadavas, Lord Krishna's Clan. Twenty two tribes left India after the Mahabharata War. Manu is Noah Yayati Yadava 4. After the epic battle of Mahabharata, exodus from India began . Many tribes fled from India towards the North and West. It has come to light that one of the tribes, Ailahs fled to the middle east and the Arabs called their God as Allah, from the Sanskrit speaking tribes Ailah. Ailas were a part of Yadavas and Pauravas who took part in the Mahabharata battle. And this tribe did not stop here. They proceeded further west. And landed in Samaria. Samaritans 5.Sumerian culture's Link with Sanatana Dharma has been dealt with in detail in my earlier Posts. 6.We have the 786 of Islam being the OM of Hinduism. 7.There was Shiva Temple in Mecca. 8.Also in Jordan, Petro Jordan Shiva temple. 9.The Greeks had a fascination for Krishna and we have many legends of Krishna in Greece and there is enough evidence to suggest that the Greeks worshiped Lord Krishna. 10.Pillars of Hercules are reported to be a Tribute to Lord Krishna. 11.Then we have the Tamil connection to Hitti Empire, Mittani,Incas, Aztecs,Mayas. 12.The ancestors of Celts wereBrahmins. I shall be writing on the similarities between Sanskrit and Irish Languages Additional information has come to my notice about the Temple of Solomon( I shall be writing on this later) and about  Krishna in Greece and Krishna was the God of the Greeks. Abraham's Tomb. ‘In about 1900 BC, hundreds of thousands of native Indians emptied Northern and Central India and fled to the Middle East after Krishna's Dwarka sank under the water.( I have reservations on the date here) ..*his family together and fled either to the Middle East or to what is now Iraq. Only some gigantic natural disasters, such as earthquakes and floods could have caused such an exodus. It was at this time that the Saraisvati and the Indus changed their proper beds. The Saraisvati dried up…( Possible as Krishna's son Pradhyumans' city is in Russia-please refer my post on this) The word Jerusalem is derived from Sanskrit: Yadu-Ishalayam, meaning “The Holy Rock of the Yadu Tribe.” Lord Krishna was a Yadu. The Moslems still revere this huge rock under the Dome of the Rock on Jerusalem Temple Mount. .. Until now, I have been wondering why Krishna's name did not appear in Jerusalem after his arrival there. Yet, the name of the king of Jerusalem,Melchizedek, the mentor of Abraham, did. I once thought thatMelchizedek was the name of a certain person. I made this mistake by thinking that a prince and a son of a Kassite king, Melik-Sadaksina, was a supernaturally endowed prince, magician and spiritual giant. I thought he had accompanied Krishna, Abraham, and Sarah to the Middle East. Later on, I came to realize that the Sanskrit word Sadhaka applies to anyone who is an adept, a magician, one possessed of supernatural powers gained by worshipping a deity or by uttering magical chants…… ‘Krishna and his family probably fled to Iraq. But I'm certain that they went to Jerusalem. The word Jerusalem is derived from Sanskrit: Yadu-Ishalayam, meaning “The Holy Rock of the Yadu Tribe.” Lord Krishna was a Yadu. The Moslems still revere this huge rock under the Dome of the Rock on Jerusalem Temple Mount. (The India We Have Lost,Paramesh Choudhary) I have additionally shown in this article that the New Testament words for Jesus all refer to Lord Krishna and his holy names. The early Christians were convinced that Melchizedek was just a prior incarnation of Jesus Christ, The remains of the Nag Hammadi manuscript entitled Melchizedekseem https://ramanisblog.in/2015/09/06/krishnas-temple-dome-of-the-rock-krishna-greek-god/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ramanispodcast/message
