Please meet Shyamasundar Das. A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada changed the world. When he came to America from India in 1965, few Westerners knew the deep spiritual truths behind ancient Vedic philosophy and culture. Within a decade, most humans on the planet had heard the Hare Krishna mantra. Shyamasundar das (Sam Speerstra) was one of Bhaktivedanta Swami's earliest disciples, helping him shape the Krishna Consciousness movement in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco, in London with the Beatles, and then, as the Swami's personal secretary, he traveled with Prabhupada in India, Russia, and all over the globe. In three volumes and nearly 600 photos, “Chasing Rhinos With The Swami” is the intimate account of Prabhupada's amazing adventures, describing in loving detail the seven years Shyamasundar spent at the side of the perfect person. I read an article about a woman who was born in poverty, and she was also discriminated against because of her race. But her friends described how she became a highly successful person because of her work ethic, and they said how she wouldn't waste a moment. For example, once the bus broke down on the way to school, and everybody else waited for an alternative bus, but she walked because she didn't want to miss even a minute. That was representative of how she conducted herself. So, Kṛṣṇa says, if you want to elevate your consciousness and be transferred to a higher position in your next life, then practice. And how much should you practice? A lot ! A lot ! Like as much as you can to practice in this life. Use every opportunity to practice. So, that's what he says in the next verse: "abhyāsa-yoga-yuktena cetasā nānya-gāminā paramaṁ puruṣaṁ divyaṁ yāti pārthānucintayan." That means practice, abhyāsa means practice. And so, that's what this International Society for Krishna Consciousness is. It's for—those who are serious about improving themselves, not just a little bit, but solving all problems. You could solve the temporary problems, and for a while, you might feel on steady ground, but there is no steady ground in this world, ultimately, even for those who get stable according to material standards... "Kurvan nirantaraṁ karma loko 'yam anuvartate tenaiva karmaṇā dhyāyan māṁ parāṁ bhaktim icchati" (Brahma Saṁhitā 5.61), which means that "Kurvan nirantaraṁ karma," everybody's got to work. Sorry if I wrecked your day. Every living entity has to work. Kṛṣṇa says that in the Bhagavad Gita also: "Na hi kaścit kṣaṇam api jātu tiṣṭhaty akarma-kṛt kāryate hy avaśaḥ karma sarvaḥ prakṛti-jair guṇaiḥ" (BG 3.5).He said, not even for a moment can you stop working? Not even for a second. You got to go. Everyone's got to move, move along. And so, "Kurvan nirantaram karma," everyone has to perpetually move. Nirantaram karma, perpetually in motion to do something, you can't stop doing something. "Kurvan nirantara karma loko 'yam anuvartate," this applies to everybody in the world. "Tenaiva karmaṇā dhyāyan māṁ parāṁ bhaktim icchati," therefore he says, do your work for me, whatever you're doing, dedicate to me. Kṛṣṇa says it in the Bhagavad Gita also: "Yat karoṣi yad aśnāsi yaj juhoṣi dadāsi yat yat tapasyasi kaunteya tat kuruṣva mad-arpaṇam.". Whatever you do, offer it to me; whatever you're eating, offer that to me. That's bhakti. That's what the teaching of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness is: don't quit your day job or your night job. You don't have to change your clothes or your hairstyle, nothing like that. Just change the way you work and your attitude towards it; it's a sacrament. You're offering it to God. "Kurvan nirantaraṁ karma loko 'yam anuvartate tenaiva karmaṇā dhyāyan," your meditation should be, "māṁ parāṁ bhaktim icchati," that I'm doing this for God. That's my contemplation. I'm doing everything for the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Send us a textJon Atack, author of "A Piece of Blue Sky," joins us to unravel the complex threads of life after Scientology. With over nine years inside the church's walls, Jon shares personal insights into the manipulative tactics and broken promises that led him to question the very foundation of his beliefs. Together, we navigate the shadowy history of Scientology and the significant role that ignorance of its past plays in retaining members. Jon's journey into publishing his eye-opening book comes with its own set of challenges, including the unexpected involvement of a Scientologist in the publishing process.Within the courtroom battlegrounds, we explore the striking parallels between Scientology's invasive security checks and legal depositions. The notorious Kendrick Moxon, head of Scientology's litigation, takes center stage as we recount efforts to uphold L. Ron Hubbard's fabricated tales. These tales often clash with reality, as evidenced by unpublished diaries that contradict Hubbard's grandiose claims of enlightenment through studies with Chinese gurus. As we shine a light on these deceptions, we stress the urgency of holding deceptive organizations accountable and ensuring the truth is brought to the forefront.Transitioning from Scientology, we reflect on the broader world of belief systems and the compelling influence of charismatic leaders. From the disillusionment within the International Society for Krishna Consciousness to the hypnotic grip of Scientology's teachings, we examine how these entities shape personal experiences and worldviews. Our conversation extends to the psychological implications of belief, touching on how personal encounters and upbringing can indelibly shape one's reality. Amidst these weighty discussions, the narrative highlights a hopeful journey toward liberation from dogma, encouraging listeners to question and search for the truth beyond comforting myths.Support the showBFG Store - http://blownforgood-shop.fourthwall.com/Blown For Good on Audible - https://www.amazon.com/Blown-for-Good-Marc-Headley-audiobook/dp/B07GC6ZKGQ/ref=tmm_aud_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=Blown For Good Website: http://blownforgood.com/PODCAST INFO:Podcast website: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2131160/shareApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/blown-for-good-behind-the-iron-curtain-of-scientology/id1671284503 Spotify: ...

Have you ever known anybody who is captured by a television? And I'm not talking about a television reaching out, as in a cartoon, and grabbing somebody and pulling them away, but it captures the consciousness of the person who created it. I create it, and then I am able to somehow channel various pictures and stories. Sounds like a very elemental way of describing television, but then somebody may become addicted to it and become nonproductive. One might even say, "Oh, such and such is addicted to watching television, and can't stop doing it." The modern version of television is a little screen we carry around in our pocket, which is a brilliant invention, but then it captures us, and we can't control it. There's a perverse relationship we have with the so-called lower energies of the world in that we're superior in quality, but because we're minute, and the material energy is great and it's controlled by God, we can become carried away by it. So when we're carried away by the lower energy and we're captured by it, this is a fals, it's an illusory kind of life that we have. It's very much like when you see water in the desert; it looks like water. You may think there's a lake, but if anybody had experience with mirages, which is likely if you've lived in California and you've traveled across any deserts here, you see what looks like a body of water, but then you'll notice after some time that no matter how fast you're moving towards it, it recedes because it's fake water. It's the illusory presentation of water. So the entire material world's like that. But our nature is different. We are satisfied when we're connected only with the higher energy. So it makes sense that when we turn our attention to Krishna, who's all spiritual, we feel satisfied, just as much as one who's thirsty and finds a real body of water and is able to drink feels satisfied. Therefore, one of the analogies given in the ancient wisdom literature called Śrīmad Bhāgavatam describes genuine spiritual practice with the process of eating. When you're hungry and you eat food, says the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, three things happen. One is that you feel nourished. The next one is you feel satisfied. And the third is that your hunger goes away. Every morsel you eat, you're noticing these three things. If you take time to notice, sometimes we don't really think, "Am I being nourished, satisfied, and is my hunger going away?" We just eat. But they do happen, and if you think back to when you ate lunch today, if you were hungry, your hunger went away, and you feel nourished and satisfied. That's why you're able to sit so stoically here, because you ate such a nice lunch. Perhaps true. What did you get? some roti ? Or, yeah, roti? Okay, that'll do it. Therefore, the practice of bhakti yoga is non-sectarian. It's universal. The basic principle is the same everywhere, because no matter where you go on any continent, although the external covering may be different and the cultural habits may be slightly different, the basis is the same. And that is that we are a superior energy called consciousness, living within a body constructed by lower energy. In general, souls are entranced by that lower energy. So to come out of that, there's a system, and it's called Krishna Consciousness—turning one's consciousness towards Krishna. Since the election, Democratic voter disbelief and despair has alternated between grief and rage. We watched some erstwhile vociferous critics of Trump in the legacy media, like Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, kiss the ring and bend the knee, while others adopted a contorted posture of seeming legitimization, like NPR hosting Leonard Leo for a nice long sit-down interview.  Meanwhile, the big egos of MAGA 2.0 seem to rise like Soviet propaganda banners over the American landscape. Trump has named his cabinet picks at lightning speed. His list includes a pro-wrestling executive, a Hare Krishna cult member, a tech billionaire, an anti-vax conspiracy peddler, a FOX News host with far-right tattoos, an alt-med snake oil salesman, two sex offenders, a COVID-contrarian doctor—and, contrary to his claiming to know nothing about it during the election, prominent Project 2025 authors.  What most high profile nominations all have in common is being completely unqualified for the job. Maybe that's the point. We look at the cabinet picks that intersect with our beat, as pseudoscience conspiracism now completes its journey from the social fringes to deciding White House policies—and all the consequences that entails. It was founded by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. on July 13, 1966, in New York City. ISKCON's main headquarters is in Mayapur, West Bengal, India and it claims approximately 1 million members globally.ISKCON members practice a distinct form of monotheistic Hinduism, grounded in Hindu scriptures and especially guided by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada's commentary and translation of the Bhagavad Gita and Bhagavata Purana. Described as “the largest and arguably most important branch” of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, ISKCON traces its roots in India to the early 16th century and expanded to gain followers in America, Europe, and Africa from the mid-to-late 20th century. The Hare Krishna movement advocates for lacto-vegetarianism and was initially founded to promote bhakti yoga. Followers, known as bhaktas, dedicate their thoughts and actions to devotion toward Krishna, whom they honor as the Supreme Personality of Godhead. The movement has experienced its fastest growth in India and, following the Soviet Union's collapse, in Russia and other formerly Soviet-aligned countries in Eastern Europe. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:04 UTC on Thursday, 28 November 2024.For the full current version of the article, see International Society for Krishna Consciousness on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Kendra.

nāhaṁ tiṣṭhāmi vaikuṇṭhe yogināṁ hṛdayeṣu vā tatra tiṣṭhāmi nārada yatra gāyanti mad-bhaktāḥ “My dear Nārada, actually I do not reside in My abode, Vaikuṇṭha, nor do I reside within the hearts of the yogīs, but I reside in that place where My pure devotees chant My holy name and discuss My form, pastimes and qualities.” Because of the presence of the Lord in the form of the transcendental vibration, the Vaikuṇṭha atmosphere is evoked. This atmosphere is without fear and anxiety. One living entity does not fear another. By hearing the holy names and glories of the Lord, a person executes pious activities: śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ (Bhāg. 1.2.17). Thus his material hankerings immediately stop. This saṅkīrtana movement started by the Society for Krishna Consciousness is meant for creating Vaikuṇṭha, the transcendental world that is without anxiety, even in this material world. The method is the propagation of the śravaṇaṁ kīrtanam process throughout the world. In the material world everyone is envious of his fellow man. Animalistic envy exists in human society as long as there is no performance of saṅkīrtana-yajña, the chanting of the holy names: Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. The Pracetās therefore decided to remain always in the society of devotees, and they considered that to be the highest benediction possible in human life. ..just after Kṛṣṇa left the world for His own abode, then to fill the darkness again, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam then appeared, and it's non-different from Kṛṣṇa. So, when the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam appeared in the world, then we have the life of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu who personifies the Bhāgavatam. We know that Śrīla Prabhupāda, when he was in Vṛndāvana and he was considering how to carry out his mission to spread Krishna Consciousness all over the world, embarked on the translation and commentation on the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam before he would leave Vṛndāvana. There's a picture of Śrīla Prabhupāda holding one of his volumes of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. He's holding it up like this. I have it somewhere in one of our slide decks, but it reminds me of him leading the charge into the battlefield, and that's exactly what he did. He spent the time in Vṛndāvana typing, typing, typing. In Chippiwada, the very pious brahmana who gave Prabhupāda a flat where he could do his work, Prabhupāda had a typewriter, probably typed with two fingers like this, and he said, did the owner of the flat that Prabhupāda was in there and what was he doing? typing, typing, typing, he said all day typing. Another account of Śrīla Prabhupāda in Vṛndāvana was that he was also typing, typing, typing. And there was one person that used to sometimes bring Prabhupāda prasādam to his room. But Prabhupāda was so absorbed in writing the Bhāgavatam in his commentary for the first canto that sometimes you just had to leave the prasādam outside the door. Because Prabhupāda didn't even answer the door because he was in samadhi - typing, typing, typing, the commentaries to the Bhāgavatam. When he had it in hand, then he brought it out. But what did he write in the beginning of the Bhāgavatam? He wrote the biography of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu because the life of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu follows the Bhāgavatam. He exemplifies the Bhāgavatam. Prabhupāda then came to America, and he brought with him only Bhāgavatam. You can hear on the Jaladuta, because he wrote down the words and we have them now, what his thoughts were, and that was that "let people hear this transcendental message of the Bhāgavatam, only by that will'... Trump's Town Hall DJ love-in stumped a lot of folks. From the conspirituality angle, however, there's something familiar about this improvised ritual. Because the world we cover is strewn with the wreckage of charismatic patriarchs who bleed their followers dry in the closed-loop system of cultic dynamics.  When leaders like Trump get to the end of the line, all that's left is pure affect. They have exhausted themselves in the efforts of self-aggrandizement. They have nothing left to say because they've said it a 1000 times. They're all out of stories. They might even be bored of their own bullshit. Underslept or dysregulated by chaotic schedules, they may not be sure where they are. They're beset by enemies, ill and in cognitive decline, but can't admit it. And when they start to feel overwhelmed by their followers' pathetic—in their view—neediness, they will reach for any help they can get in maintaining their emotional dominance.  What October 14 showed us is that in these moments, Trump's go-to resource is canned music, and, without his own iPad at the ready, a DJ handler who can spin the tracks and support his reverie of relief and control.  Show Notes Trump holds town hall in Pennsylvania suburbs with focus on economy  How Media Outlets Covered Trump's Musical Town Hall Donald Trump is DJing weekly at Mar-a-Lago, plays Broadway songs and Celine Dion from his iPad, report says DJ T: How Trump controls the music at Mar-a-Lago   Twitter thread  152: Tulsi Gabbard's Krishna Consciousness (w/Nitai Joseph) PLAYING FOR OSHO 1989 Introduction – Chinmaya Dunster  Patted Down by India's Hugging Saint  The Soft Nationalism of Amma, India's Hugging Saint 37: Guru Jagat Cultjacks Kundalini Yoga (w/Philip Deslippe & Stacie Stukin) Letter to Sogyal Rinpoche from current and ex-Rigpa members details abuse allegations  Trump's bizarre music session reignites questions about his mental acuity  Brief: Trump's Impending Ego Implosion (w/ Daniel Shaw) Traumatic Narcissism: Relational Systems of Subjugation Sex abuse allegations surround L.A. Our teacher who led with the Bhagavad-gītā when he came to the west called it the Vedic intelligence. One of the practices of Krishna Consciousness is to, as my god brother told me in New York City just a couple of months ago—his name is Pradyumna; he's always bugging me to continue learning Sanskrit, which I've done in fits and starts. I usually do it to procrastinate when I'm writing a book and I think, "Well, maybe I'll learn Sanskrit instead because it seems easier." And I saw him on the street out in front of one of our centers in New York City called The Bhakti Center, and we greeted one another and just asked how we were. I asked how he was doing; he asked how I was doing. I said, "Fine," and he said, "Fine." Then he asked, "How's the Sanskrit?" I said, "Well, um..." and he already knows my Sanskrit teacher and had already told him that I hadn't talked to him in a couple months. So, he looked at me and goes, "Crack a book," and then he walked away. So that's my mantra in my head: "Crack a book." There's a way in which we look all around the room and think, "What could preoccupy me nowadays?" There's one object that especially attracts everyone's attention. I've noticed it because if you go to a bus stop, a train stop, an airport, and you look at people waiting for anything, have you had this experience? Do you know where I'm going with this? What are they doing? Looking at a screen, right? And usually, their thumbs are moving. wring, wring, wring. This is not yogic samadhi. It's different. It's very different. There is a way in which the human brain can be engaged in such a way that it can touch the web of transcendence, and that's called reading Bhagavad-gītā. It's the Vedic intelligence. One of our main practices is to read Bhagavad-gītā, and what we claim is, if you read Bhagavad-gītā, you'll have an intervention in your life. Did you ever feel like you needed an intervention? Yes. Did you ever feel like you needed rehab? Yes. Okay, yeah. In fact, it's trendy nowadays. "Where have you been? Rehab." "Yeah, I'm rehabbing." Practically living in the world, there's such an assault on the senses from every direction, and I just get swept away by habits, and we need some intervention. We need some rehab, and Bhagavad-gītā has both of those. The intervention of knowledge is quite enticing because the voice of the Bhagavad-gītā is gentle, like a friend. In fact, it's a conversation between The Great Krishna and His great friend Arjuna. Krishna speaks authoritatively, but there's also a sense that he's speaking to his friend. But there's also another sense, because He, Krishna, is the Supreme appearing in a human form, that He's talking to all of us. The intervention can happen for anyone, in any language. This chapter is important for meditation. Remembering what is the consequence of my own consciousness, that is, that I'm developing these bodies one after another. Arjuna asked about this in the *th chapter of the Bhagavad-Gita when he wants to know what karma is. Krishna says karma is the force of your own consciousness which is creating future situations, i.e., bodies, in which you'll be forced to inhabit and carry on from there in material life. So, Krishna Consciousness is the simple switch that one can flip (sorry for the analogy—flip a switch, but it is like that), that if one considers that all of my work is for Krishna, and everything in the universe is paraphernalia to be used in the service of Krishna, then there's a way in which one is no longer obligated or entangled by that. What's more, one must understand what's beyond the three dimensions of materialistic consciousness.. .that living entities are struggling in the material nature, and knowing that I'm one of them struggling, and I, I've been given an opportunity to rise above it. One must, in order to have a holistic approach to pleasing Krishna and doing devotional service, be absorbed in that sense of mission of how to distribute this to others. Chanting japa in that context, or doing anything in that context, then is especially effective. It means that when we're chanting, it should be a way of rejuvenating ourselves, coming to a higher level of realization so that we can carry on the mission. They go hand in hand, and this is one of the ways that japa becomes great. Because when we're in the flow of distributing Krishna Consciousness, and that's our mission in life, to contribute to that effort, and we also chant, it can be a form of self-improvement so that we can carry on the mission. Also, the chanting can be a prayer: ‘Please empower me to do this.' Oh, there was actually a third verse because he remembered it afterwards. He said there were three verses, and the third verse, he said, was favored by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta. I'm talking about Mukund Dutta. He said, “sve sve 'dhikāre yā niṣṭhā sa guṇaḥ parikīrtitaḥ (SB 11.20.26),” that it's a very good quality. Guna means mode; it also means a good quality, that you act according to your level of advancement, your adhikar. Don't try to imitate others. One of my God Brothers, one of our God Brothers, was here for the Govardhan Festival we hold every year during Kartik. Actually, it's just a reading but kind of a festival for us, and he was there. He was talking to some devotees, and he told them that this time in my life, I'm not trying to compete with anybody. I'm just trying to do my level best with what I can do in Krishna Consciousness. This younger devotee so much appreciated hearing that, and this is the spirit: “sve sve 'dhikāre yā niṣṭhā sa guṇaḥ parikīrtitaḥ,” that you have a position in life right now, right? Say yes, and you have to work within that. You can't, for the sake of a sentimental idea, think that I'll suddenly come to Radha Kund and attain the ambrosia of pure love for Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇi. It has made rapid progress in the field of material comforts, education and economic development throughout the entire world. But there is a pinprick somewhere in the social body at large, and therefore there are large-scale quarrels, even over less important issues. There is need of a clue as to how humanity can become one in peace, friendship and prosperity with a common cause. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam will fill this need, for it is a cultural presentation for the re-spiritualization of the entire human society. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam should be introduced also in the schools and colleges, for it is recommended by the great student-devotee Prahlāda Mahārāja in order to change the demoniac face of society. “If you cannot take to this practice, then engage yourself in the cultivation of knowledge. Better than knowledge, however, is meditation, and better than meditation is renunciation of the fruits of action, for by such renunciation one can attain peace of mind.” (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-gita, 12.12)

Biodata for Michael A. CremoThe soul that I am entered its present body at the moment I was conceived in the fall of 1947. I appeared from my mother's womb on July 15, 1948, in Schenectady, New York. That birth was probably one of millions I have experienced since I left my real home in the spiritual world. My mother tells me that when I was an infant, she would give me alphabet soup, and sometimes I would not eat it, but would just spell out words in the bowl. From that, I take it that I must have practiced writing in many previous existences. In this life, I recall always having wanted to be a writer."From the very beginning, my life has been a spiritual quest for love and truth. My father served as an American Intelligence Officer for the United States Air Force, and from that time my life was one of periodic change and travel. I went to high school at an American school in Germany and spent my vacations traveling all over Europe. Once, in the spring of 1965, in a youth hostel in Stockholm, I met some kids who had been to India and back, traveling overland. I decided I would someday do the same thing. I also became deeply interested in Eastern philosophy, particularly Indian esoteric teachings. I kept travel diaries, wrote poetry, and tried my hand at autobiographical short fiction."During my last year of high school in St. Petersburg, Florida, I took a creative writing course. The next year I entered George Washington University. Over the next two years, I became immersed in the counterculture and gradually gave up my plans to enter government service. I continued my investigations into Eastern philosophy and esoteric spiritual teachings."In 1968 I left college and went to Europe on a voyage of self-discovery. I took a boat from Haifa to Istanbul, where the pull toward the East was so strong that I found myself heading overland to India. I got as far as Tehran, lost my nerve, and turned back."After carefully studying the Bhagavad-gita, a gift of some Hare Krishna people at a Grateful Dead concert, I decided that I should absorb myself in the yoga of devotion to the mysterious Lord Krishna. Later I moved to Los Angeles to join the staff of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, and to write for the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust (BBT). By 1980 I was regarded as an accomplished writer. To date, the books written and edited by myself and other BBT staff have sold more than ten million copies and have been translated into many languages."With Dr. Richard L. Thompson, a founding member of the Bhaktivedanta Institute, I began a series of books aimed at both scholarly and popular audiences. The first to be published was Forbidden Archeology: The Hidden History of the Human Race. This book shows that archaeologists and anthropologists, over the past one hundred and fifty years, have accumulated vast amounts of evidence showing that humans like ourselves have existed on this planet for tens of millions of years. We show how this evidence has been suppressed, ignored, and forgotten because it contradicts generally-held ideas about human evolution." "In lecture presentations on Forbidden Archeology to scientific and lay audiences around the world I see a new consciousness emerging that integrates science and religion into a cohesive paradigm of reality.www.michaelcremo.comhttps://tovp.org/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/show/earth-ancients_1/support.This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/2790919/advertisement

It can't be anywhere else. God lives inside of us as who we really are. Not as "God": Some Other Thing. As who we are. Not somebody else. Not something else." - Krishna Das, Chants of a Lifetime  "If your life is made in such a way that in every step you are feeing the presence of Krishna, then that is Krishna Consciousness." -Srila Prabhupada "If only you knew how powerful you'd become once you stop waiting for other people to confirm what you already know is true." -Michell C. Clark "Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops." - James 5:17-18 There's something about this passage I've never noticed before... Elijah prayed it wouldn't rain.  And it didn't for three and a half years. Then he prayed it would. And it did. But something else happened... crops grew. If crops grew when the rain came, that implies there were seeds in the ground. This story suggests that farmers were still sowing seeds in the dust. They kept planting, believing the rains would eventually come. I  don't know about you but prayer can sometimes feel like this for me. Like I'm sowing seeds in the desert. But I've learned that often when it feels like nothing is happening physically, there is plenty that's happening spiritually. Even if I can't see it yet. Personally, I want to have seeds already in the ground when the rain comes. My prayer is that, even when our prayers don't seem to be making a visible difference, we'd keep sowing anyway, trusting the One who brings the rain. Keep sowing, friend. - @iansimkins via IG  (both pinned posts) "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” - John 13:35
