The corner booth at Skip Paige's Little Bar is rarely a place for politics on this podcast. When the discussion gets there, we try our best to cut that short. But, there are times when we are at a significant crossroads and public policy does impact every citizen. After the passing of U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein, it was clear there would be a series of fresh faces campaigning for her seat. This podcast is not part of our regular series on Big Conversations, Little Bar with Patrick Evans & Randy Florence. First, it will be shorter. Out of fairness, we will offer an open invitation to any candidate for the same office (which must have representation for the Coachella Valley region) to be invited as a guest on the show. There will be no bias for one candidate over another. Welcome now to our special series: Big Conversations, Your Choice. On this episode, we feature a former Coachella Valley journalist who has continued to be a television reporter and anchor at KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles until announcing her bid to fill the seat vacated when Feinstein passed away. Christina Pascucci is a person familiar to many in the Greater Palm Springs area from her time on-air at KMIR Television. Pascucci shares the reasons behind her candidacy, why she believes she is uniquely qualified and how she thinks all of her experiences have brought her to this point. Randy and Patrick ask her if taking on a huge opportunity like this shortly after announcing her pregnancy should have us questioning her sanity. Find out how that exact concern drove Christina to seek the office of U.S. Senator.

Episode 44: “The Appreciation Of Alretha Thomas”

My guest speaker Award winning Actress/Director/Playwright/Producer/Author Alretha Thomas. Her background is as diverse as her personality. She started at the age of ten, when her 5th grade teacher picked and read her short story assignment in front of the class-that simple, loving act empowered a new writer. Continuing in high school, her numerous original oratorical conquests on the Speech Team led her to a journalism concentration at USC. Upon graduating, Alretha soon realized that her interest in journalism was not heartfelt. While at the taping of a live sitcom, the producer noticed her and encouraged her hand at modeling. Modeling didn't mean much to her, but it did lead her to acting and a NAACP Theatre Award Nomination (1993) for BEST ACTRESS. Alretha took a break from acting and began to write full-time. Her church gave her an outlet to fulfill her writing desires through their Liturgical Fine Arts Department wherein Alretha penned twelve theatre pieces, six of which she directed-the community response was overwhelming. This led to full-length plays outside of the church. In 2002, The Stella Adler Theater presented A Shrine to Junior. The play was nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award and in 2004, Alretha's play, Civil Rites, was the recipient of an NAACP Theatre Award. Her play Grandpa's Truth ran at the Inglewood Playhouse in Inglewood, California in 2006, and was extended more than once by popular demand. Not only did radio station KJLH support by recommending this production to its listeners, but notables like the Mayor of Inglewood, Roosevelt Dorn, and music legends like Freda Payne and Stevie Wonder had critical acclaim for Grandpa's Truth. This wonderful piece was featured on Channel 5 (KTLA News) by Entertainment Reporter, Sam Rubin. Additionally, in 2007, Alretha's play that she wrote and directed, Sacrificing Simone, had a successful run at Stage 52 in Los Angeles and was called "an inspirational crowd pleaser" by the Los Angeles Times and in 2009, Alretha's groundbreaking One, Woman Two Lives, starring Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), directed by four-time NAACP Image Award Best Director recipient Denise Dowse, garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences. In between plays, Alretha's first novel Daughter Denied was launched in 2008 and has received glowing reviews from readers and book clubs across the country. Representing her books, Alretha has been the guest on many radio shows and television shows including San Francisco Public Affairs show Bay Sunday with Barbara Rodgers on KTLA Channel 5. In 2011, Alretha launched her second novel, Dancing Her Dreams Away, and it was also well received. Her third novel, Married in the Nick of Nine, spawned a four-book series that was acquired by Soul Mate Publishing in January 2014. Alretha's award winning third indie novel, Four Ladies Only, was released February 2014. Alretha's first mystery novel, Missing Melissa, was released in 2015. In 2016, Justice for Jessica, the first book in her new Detective Rachel Storme series, was released. In 2016 Alretha returned to acting. We learn about all of this and more on “Behind The Real”. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/aaron-d-king/support

Navigating Through the Valleys of Success – A Perspective in the Thick of it is an inspirational piece meant to empower anyone with a dream to find the meaning of success. Many people give up on their entrepreneurial passions due to finances, economy, personal tragedies, guilt, negative influences and stressful work environments that seem impossible to escape. Author, Cleon Joseph welcomes readers into his walk to show how God orchestrated human influence to guide him out of his valleys. He also illustrates how difficult circumstances in the ‘valleys' of his journey were the sharpening tools to forge his climb to the success that God has planned for him. This book is meant to encourage readers to never give up on their dreams. God has a plan for success for everyone, but the blueprint begins in the valley. During our conversation, Mr. Joseph talked about: – What influences did his parents instilled in him and how his family dealt with challenges – how his father drifted apart for eight years and then reconciled – The story behind the book and why did his wife write the introduction of this book – How his experience in law enforcement and being a trainer help him in writing this book – The importance is discipline in his life – The way that he got out of his valley – The importance of God in his life – How did he get into fitness – What did writing the book teach him about himself and how has it changed him – How did he become transparent in his life – The importance of relationships when you are going through the valleys in life Visit our website at https://www.thedrvibeshow.com/ Please email us at dr.vibe@thedrvibeshow.com God bless, peace, be well and keep the faith,  Dr. Vibe

The Baby Boomer Radio, TV, Movies, Magazines, Music, Comics, Fads, Toys, Fun, and More Show!

We remember three individuals the field of Radio and Television Broadcasting who we lost in February of 2015. Gary Owens, the legendary announcer best remembered for his announcing role on "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In", died on February 12th. He is also very well remembered for his local radio work in Los Angeles. Mr. Owens' baritone voice was unmistakable, and we still remember him telling us about "Beautiful Downtown Burbank" on the old Laugh-In show. Stan Chambers, the legendary TV personality who spent decades at KTLA Channel 5 in Los Angeles, passed away on February 13th. Mr. Chambers began working at KTLA in 1947 and stayed until 2010. He covered many historic events in that span of years, from natural disasters that occurred in Southern California, to A-Bomb tests, to assassinations, riots, and many other historic events. Finally, we remember Bob Simon of CBS news. He died on February 11th. Mr. Simon was the victim of an automobile accident in downtown Manhattan. His assignments took him to many places in the world, facing danger in the field, and at one time actually was taken hostage along with others during the Persian Gulf War. It is ironic that he should lose his life in Manhattan after having faced so many dangerous situations around the world. Join us as we remember and we salute these giants of broadcasting on this edition of Galaxy Moonbeam Night Site, on the Galaxy Nostalgia Network.
