Not because God changed His mind. Simply because you were not close enough when the moment came.2 Kings 2 records one of the most decisive moments of positioning in the entire Bible. And the difference between the ones who were far away and the one who was close enough was not ability, not calling, not worthiness.It was a decision made three times before the moment arrived.Three times YOU were told to stay. Three times the instruction was to go no further. Three times the easier choice — the more reasonable choice — the choice that most people in that situation would have made — was right there in front of YOU.And three times YOU said no.Here is what most people miss about this passage — being in the right place at the right time was not something that happened TO the person who received what fell. It was something they CHOSE — repeatedly, deliberately, against the instruction given — before they ever saw what was coming.And because of those three decisions — when the moment arrived, when the thing that was being carried finally fell — YOU were the only one close enough to reach it.There is a specific condition in this passage — stated before the moment happened, attached to the promise before any of it was visible — that reveals exactly what being in the right place at the right time actually requires of YOU. Most people know the outcome of this story. Right Place, Right Time 8-17 by Emmanuel Baptist Church, San Jose, CA

A nursing convention was being held at a hotel when a guest experienced a heart attack in the lobby. Immediately, more than two dozen caregivers came to his side and worked to keep him alive. The guest was incredibly grateful for all the nurses who were at the right place at the right time. Esther was also at the right place at the right time. She’d been chosen to be queen after winning the king’s favor and approval (Esther 2:17). Yet, a decree threatened her people, the Jews, so her cousin Mordecai encouraged her to use her position to appeal to the king to save them from certain death. “Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” he challenged her (4:14). Her decision to risk her life and “go to the king” (v. 16) to disclose this evil plot saved the Jews from certain death (ch. 8). It’s apparent that Queen Esther understood that God had placed her in that position at just the right time. Sometimes, we may wonder why situations happen or circumstances change. Perhaps we get frustrated and try to get things “back to normal.” God may have placed us in our current situation for a specific purpose. Today, as we encounter disruptions or changes, let’s ask God to show us if there’s something special He wants us to do as part of His perfect plan.

Tia shares how she liked to take things apart when she was young, including the brand new computer her mother bought her and how she was fascinated by all the pieces of it spread all across her bedroom floor. As she started studying engineering, Tia learned she was more of a technologist than an engineer. Tia got her start in technology without completing her formal education by what she says is "grit and right place, right time." Once she was in a management role, Tia wanted to validate her knowledge, experience, and ability and not only completed her bachelor's degree, but also two master's degrees. Right Place Right Time, episode… who even knows. Today's lesson, class, involves Mike and Lance, who have clearly decided that the mature, enlightening topic of “Top 5 Farts and Butts” was worth a full segment of your time. Yes, that's right. Instead of meaningful discourse, we were treated to a juvenile fascination with bodily functions. Oh, the intellectual heights they aim for. Next up, they attempt to discuss “What Heaven Looks Like,” as if the theological implications of the afterlife could be competently addressed by these two. Spoiler alert: their heaven probably looks like the inside of a comic book shop, because, yes, they veered into comic book nerdom once again. Somehow, they're trying to convince you it's all about “finding story.” Speaking of story—if you can call it that—there's a lot of talk about editing. Apparently, they've stumbled enough in life and podcasting to think that fumbling around is an essential part of the creative process. “What you learn from stumbling” is the key takeaway here, as though their very inability to stick to one topic is somehow insightful. In summary, children, today's lesson from Mike and Lance is this: even the most absurd meandering conversation can be stretched into something resembling entertainment.
