5.21.25 - Day 6/13 of the Red Skywalker Wavespell - Spectral Moon 20 Today is a portal day. It's helpful to pay attention to them, but I am reminded that once we discovered the internet and smashed our computers down to pocket size, we normalized having wide open gateways through time and space to the point that every nanosecond is a portal. So when they arise every now and then in the Tzolkin, who really cares? You can, a little. It's an intensification of the tribe and tone at hand, and also there's a door where the was formerly a wall, and you pass through. We combine that portal process with the White Mirror ritual of sacrifice, of giving up control and accepting an invitation into a much more heavenly space, via our own physical suffering. Physical here just means sentient, embodied in our incarnation. The sacrifice could be in work, relationship, walking through your day and creating an ache in any of your limbs that reminds you that to be human and planetary involves suffering. But if we endure it, we allow it, we experience transcendence. That is White Mirror, the way into the ultimate comfort of feeling our surroundings more truly reflecting, and affirming, ourselves.
For the very first time this podcast has a special mix from a very deep young dj/producer that has caught my attention once again,he goes by the name Stereomusiq aka Ofuren. Here's a short Q&A I had with him to accompany the mix. **Nqalastyle**: My man thanks for droppin' this very deep mix for my podcast, for those who don't know you who is Ofuren aka Stereomusiq in short? **Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©**: Its a pleasure & thank you for having me. Well, Stereomuziq Ngwenya aka Ofuren is a young Deep House producer & poet from Mpumalanga, I also foundered a new underground label that I'll be launching soon with my partner Sibusiso Ncongwane. **Nqalastyle**: That's interesting, any hints on who will be the first artist to release on the label, and what kinda sound should we expect? **Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©**: Our first release will comprise with productions from myself, Fred Buddah & Soul Arab. You can expect a rich & dark mixture of pure 'African Deep House'. The sort of sound the label will be all about. **Nqalastyle**: That's nice,I notice you got guys we haven't really heard of,I'm looking forward to that. Why deep house when thers many other genres out there? **Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©**: Oh yeah, ROOTS GO DEEP MUSIC is all about new & underground talent..keepin it deep in every turn and to answer your question about "why deep house", its simple, to me deep house is spirituality, an the sonic expression of the human soul through beats, breaks & bass, that's why I was so drawn to it. I wouldn't even classify it as music because when I listen to it, it doesn't feel like music..feels like a journey..a journey through yourself..almost like meditation **Nqalastyle**: Yea I feel you man, what's your vision for your new label, who would u wanna work with, who influences you in terms of your production? **Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©**: The vision I've had since day one is to expose the deep underground scene of South Africa, which is very underrated. That's why I'm always searching for South African deep house producers that have real talent and have a real appreciation for this art and it feels as though its my job to convey their passion to the world. I wouldn't say I have influences, rather I have inspirations, people who have inspired me to seek & music, two people infact, Radio Slave & Lars Behrenroth..although I've never met them, they've both imparted wisdom to me. Radio Slave really inspired me to be different in my music, I do not sound like him nor do I want to but his sound really inspires to create my own individual, cause that's what art is, its individuality. Lars on the other hand really inspired me to seek the music, to find the diamond on the dust that evrybody else has missed. **Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©**: To seek and make music* **Nqalastyle**: Interesting stuff,I can feel your passion for this sound..now back to the mix, it is definetly not for persons under the age of real deep underground house..what inspired this mix? **Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©**: Lol your show inspired this mix, I'm really a fan of the other mixes before mine and they really set the tone for this one although I do like to mix it up abit **Nqalastyle**: Thanks man..do you have any favorite djs/producers local and international,or any artists that we should look out for in 2012? **Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©**: My favourite local producers are D'nel, Drumshift Phenyo, Luka, Soul Arab, Fred Buddah, Ted Jood. My favourite international producers are Lars Behrenroth, Pulshar, P.Laoss, Radio Slave and you can look forward to my new EP that will be dropping in May under FOMP UK **Nqalastyle**: Ok thanks again man,how do people contact you for remixing, bookings or any other related stuff? **Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©**: They can contact me on facebook at www.facebook.com/ofuren or they can email me at ofuren@gmail.com and if they got a demo they can send it to info.rootsgodeep.gmail.com or upload it in our drop box at www.soundcloud.com/rootsgodeep Nqalastyle: Thanks for making time and for the mix Siyabonga | Roots Go Deep Music 2012©: It is my utmost pleasure brother
In this chat, we get to meet Merrill Garbus of Tune-Yards. Garbus started Tune-Yards as a solo project, but quickly transformed into a duo with musical and life partner Nate Brenner, and they have now released their brand new LP, Better Dreaming, on 4AD. In this chat, Merrill and I go deep on the personal, global, emotional, and sociopolitical themes and inspirations behind the new record, as well as the production, writing, and composition process. We also touch a bit on Tune-Yards early years, and end up diving deep into the significance of art (both making it and having it in our lives), and of simply being alive, in this moment, now - and how radical that can be. Thank you for listening.

4.25.25 - Day 6/13 of the Blue Hand Wavespell - Planetary Moon 22 It's the last week of the Planetary Moon, a time when we are for 28 days looking downward at the planet from a peak that we spent the whole year climbing. Most of an uphill haul we cannot help but be fixated on what's above us, but when we arrive at the pinnacle, the view turns to what we accomplished, what we left way behind. I find myself distracted from spiritual matters in the Planetary tone. And by now, that's grueling and imbalanced. It will not be long before we are cast back to earth, or sea level, by the wave's dissolution. One more week of Planetary fixation and single focus.

If I had the opportunity to teach music to an absolute music newbie, someone without any previous musical instruction or experience, I know exactly how I would begin. I would start without printed music. That's hardly revolutionary. The German composer Carl Orff is known today not only for his most famous work, Carmina Burana, but for the innovative methods he brought to musical education. Émile Jaques-Dalcroze created Eurhythmics, not the 1980's pop band with Annie Lennox, but a system for teaching music through movement. Music schools throughout the world have been teaching young children with the method developed by Shinichi Suzuki which begins by emphasizing learning by ear rather than by printed music. All of these educators believed, as I do, that music is within us and that by learning without the printed page, we can create connections that allow us to develop our natural instinct for how music is organized, in notes and rhythms and chords and more. Our musical notation system is really just a code that we use to transmit and share musical ideas between composer and performer. The actual music doesn't live there. Please understand; I'm not suggesting that we should all learn exclusively by ear. My meaning is that when we become so accustomed to using the page as our only path into the music, when we sublimate our instinctive musical understanding to deciphering the dots on the staff, we make playing harder. In short, we ignore the very innate connection that brought us to music and to the harp in the first place. Today we are going to explore some very fundamental rhythm concepts through this lens, focusing on the experience first, then the notation, rather than the other way around. I promise I won't ask you to try playing by ear or to memorize everything or to light candles and repeat affirmations. What I want to do is to give you some very simple ways to change how you think about rhythm. We'll do a couple of small experiments that I designed to help relieve any confusion or uncertainty you have about basic rhythmic concepts. Even if you feel totally confident about your skill in deciphering and playing complex rhythms, these little drills will help you reconnect to what is truly important about the rhythmic element of our playing. "The first National Park in the United States was Yellowstone, and the most recognised attraction is the geyser Old Faithful. Predictions of Old Faithful eruptions are central to human activity at the site. People plan their days around these times. Efforts are made to make the most accurate predictions possible, however there are variations and it is never exactly known at what moment the geyser will erupt. It is a wonderful representation of human reliance on natural rhythms, which we only partially understand. "In my composition Pulse of Yellowstone, I explore the rhythms and predictability of Old Faithful. There is a predictability of pattern and rhythm, yet it is slightly off of what is expected, reflecting the experience of those who attempt to predict the geyser. The raw recording occurs in its entirety twice in the piece - at the very beginning, sped up very fast to give the listener the essence of its overall shape, and at around half speed across the entire piece to set the pace and drama of the composition. "Joining the field recording are percussive, vocal, and instrumental sounds created and recorded by me. These musical elements play with the idea of predictability, as well as the history of predictions of this geyser. Over the years, and seemingly in response to earthquakes, the intervals between eruptions have gotten shorter. I have quickened the pace toward the end of the piece to represent this shift. Rhythmic elements are inspired by the bimodal nature of the geysers eruptions (longer duration eruptions are followed by longer periods of rest). "The instrument I used is the bass viola da gamba, an early bowed stringed instrument. The shape of the waveform of the rise and fall of the geyser's spray is reminiscent to me of the sound of a bowed note, especially in the underhand bowing method used in viola da gamba. "The field recording inspired me because it is a powerful sound of water. It sounds a bit like the breath of a whale! In addition to being a composer, I am a marine biologist, and it pleases me to hear the power of this water feature, as the Earth is surfacing water up onto dry land." We are creatures of habit. Rhythmic, repetitious actions that are triggered almost without notice. For good or bad, these habits shape us in profound ways. To help us wield the power of habit for good, Kathy Knochel and Brian Sutter take up the topic of habit formation in this episode of Breaking Bread. Show notes: Habits are reinforced by the positive feedback we experience when we do them. Typically, bad habits form naturally with immediate favorable reinforcement. For example, scrolling on your phone becomes a habit when it seems to cure momentary boredom. Typically, good habits form intentionally with long term favorable reinforcement. For example, practicing scales on the piano habitually forms muscle memory that will produce a good piano player in the future. Tips for Intentional healthy Habit Formation: Identity: See your habit as evidence that you are the type of person you want to be. For example, Sandy wants to be a thankful person so she begins to understand herself to be a thankful person. When she journals two things she's thankful for each day, it reinforces her identity. Make the habit accessible: Build the structure that will make your habit easier. For example, Todd wants to exercise in the morning. By setting out his running clothes the night before, he makes the first step in exercising, that is getting into his workout clothes, accessible. Use habit stacking: Pair a desired habit with a habit or routine that you already have established. For example, Jake wants to be a prayerful person. He decides to pray while he brushes his teeth, a habit he has already formed. Make yourself accountable: Let others know you are forming a habit and ask for their accountability. For example, Jenny wants to move her body more. She asks a friend to keep her accountable that she walks 8,000 steps each day.
3.17.25 - Day 6/13 of the Yellow Star Wavespell - Solar Moon 11 We keep following the wave of Yellow Star to the end of the Tzolkin. For those of us who follow the Mayan cycles, we have a private, small collective of disciples sharing the importance of this transit. In some effect, we are becoming stars, or star people, if that bit of New Age speak doesn't offend. Just lifting off the mortal coil and planetary toil for a millisecond and feeling ourselves as light and ether. And joining the essence of the Maya that seemed to ascend to the cosmos after their empire expired here on earth. It's a bit dreamy and out there, suitable to this Red Skywalker day, but mostly just pay closer attention to these waning days of one completion of the uterine vessel that is our 260-day path.

Lennon and McCartney eloquently recited an affirmation stating that In My Life I Loved Them All.The affection for certain artists and the melodic poetry they injected into our souls has remained in our wiring through the good, the bad and the uncertain times of our lives. One beloved gentleman we cherish was known as Arthur Alexander. Known as June to his closest companions, he was a one of a kind country-soul songwriter and singer. It can easily be said that he invented the genre. The fifth American studio album by the Rolling Stones, released in December 1965, contained the Alexander classic "You Better Move On". From that moment on I was hooked on his intimate honesty and at times, the violent dillemas created within the stories he told. From "Anna" to "Rainbow Road" he took us into a world of hurt, light and truth."Anna" was first made familiar to us all through the Beatles cover version of this classic. On June 17, 1963, they performed the tune for the BBC radio show Pop Go the Beatles and was included on their Vee Jay LP Introducing The Beatles. In 1994, "Adios Amigo: A Tribute to Arthur Alexander" was released with industry legends engaging their versions of some of his classics.Roger McQuinn, the man whose voice elevated the Byrds to historic heights recorded "Anna" for the occasion. His reading of this tear stained composition is dealt a tender touch and inspires the notion that when the very best translate the very best, we are often rewarded beyond emotion. On that same tribute recording, another unexpected performance is revealed.Robert Plant, known for his howling , screeching and a jet plane vocal roar illustrated in the metal blues ventures of Led Zeppelin offered up a remarkable surprise. Plant's ability to take Arthur's haunting chant' "If It Really Has To Be This Way" down a road of interrpretation few of us knew he could travel, is a revelation which should inspire every singer to better worlds.Once again, proof of emotive genius is discovered when a vocalist of Plant's caliber is sworn to the oath of conveying the inner depth of the heart as written by a master of song craft. And so we enter this new realm of Double Trouble with the talent and awe of three pioneers of popular music. We double down on the voices of Robert and Roger as the giant shadow of Arthur Alexanderconducts a human orchestra of words, urges and the need to confess that which few are capable of expressing with such passionate poise.Robert remains with us at 82 and Roger at 76.Arthur Alexander boarded The Mystery Train on June 9, 1993 at 54.Ladies and gentleman. Welcome To Double Trouble.Rich Buckland

He eventually became the first CEO of Universal Music, based in Moscow. For a decade, he promoted international artists in Russia, including such huge names as Elton John, U2, Sting, and Bon Jovi. He introduced hip-hop music to Russian youth. David also discovered and signed multiple Russian artists to Universal, including t.A.T.u, who would become the biggest-selling Russian act in music industry history. David also did some things that no other music executive in the United States has ever done. Music piracy in Russia was rampant, and the market for cheap, counterfeit compact discs was so pervasive that it threatened the legitimate Russian music industry's ability to gain a foothold. So on behalf of Universal's stable of artists and the Russian music industry, he participated in law enforcement raids of pirate factories and testified in court against the criminal gangs who operated them. David has been extensively interviewed about this subject on television, radio, and print and wrote an editorial about it that appeared in the Wall Street Journal. He also wrote about it for the American Chamber of Commerce and submitted written testimony to the US Congress on the topic of piracy and intellectual property rights in Russia.David is an authority on this topic because of his deep understanding of Russia. He lived and worked there for fifteen years, and raised a family in Moscow. Dutch imprint Konstrukt continues their string of stellar releases through the various shades and moods of techno with a club-centric offering by German producer Hüseyin Evirgen aka Magnia Pia. Started in 2016, the side project of the Cassegrain former half has seen releases on storied labels such as Ed Davenport's Counterchange recordings, Soma Quality Records, and his own Arcing Seas label. Axis Mundi rounds out his third strong release of the year. The mysteriously named Muztagh evokes notions of otherworldly scenes, shrouded in mists. Perhaps a spiritual element twisting through the ether. Rhythmic drums and sweeping pads lending to the feelings of wariness and apprehension as the track ebbs and flows through the duration. Magna Pia's Axis Mundi EP will be released on the 15th of November, including a unique, limited run of 180gr records for the vinyl heads out there. @magnapia www.instagram.com/magna_pia_/ @konstrukt-5 www.instagram.com/konstrukt__ Write up by @huedj Follow us on social media: @itsdelayed linktr.ee/delayed www.itsdelayed.com www.facebook.com/itsdelayed www.instagram.com/_____delayed www.youtube.com/@_____delayed

Drawing from her Sierra Leonean-American roots, her work highlights the connections among African people across the diaspora. The 4th Convening for Dance and Culture, featuring dance and drum workshops on October 19 and 20 at SAY Detroit Play Center and a concert with Afriky Lolo and Detroit's House of Jit on October 19 at Detroit School of Arts, embraces the theme "Rooted in Rhythm," symbolizing our shared rhythm and interconnectedness, much like the roots of a tree.
