In this episode, myself and Robyn Towt discuss the lack of options breast cancer patients are given after undergoing mastectomies and the missing education she herself experienced with the dangers of breast implants. She will share her own decision to remove her implants, choosing to love herself, embrace her body for all it had gone through and have a ‘flat' closure.   Robyn Towt is co-founder of GPAC, Global Patient Advocacy Coalition, raising awareness about breast implant safety and proper informed consent. She has shared her testimony twice at the FDA in Washington D.C., is an administrator in various online support groups for women & has worked extensively with Arizona legislators in passing an informed consent law for breast implant surgery. Robyn also partnered with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) to develop a patient decision checklist that was adopted by ASPS in October 2021. Robyn is a member of ASPS Breast Implant Collaborative Council (BICC) and has attended the ASPS annual meeting as a guest speaker on the patient discussion panel.   I am your host, Marci Nettles. I have had a lifetime of opportunities where I had the choice to Breakdown or Breakthrough. It is my hope this Podcast may become your light in the darkness, as you listen to the stories of people I consider “heroes.” Each one had a point where they too had to choose to either Breakdown or Breakthrough!    Thank you for listening! #174: Breast Implant Illness with Robyn Towt

The Toxin Terminator

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 1, 2021 32:29

In today's episode of Toxin Terminator, we are joined by Robyn Towt! She is a former teacher and three-time cancer survivor who was harmed by a medical device. In 2017 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy and reconstruction with silicone breast implants that made her horribly ill. She had them removed after just 4 months and all of her symptoms went away. She was shocked that none of her doctors told her that this could happen. This led to a passion for advocacy in medical device safety. She is a co-founder of GPAC Global Patient Advocacy Coalition, as well as co-founder of BISA, Breast Implant Safety Alliance. She is also an administrator of multiple patient advocacy groups. She has testified twice at the FDA in support of patient safety and proper informed consent. Collaborative efforts with industry and medical societies have led to progress in finding solutions for increasing awareness and patient safety. She has worked extensively with Arizona legislators in passing an informed consent law for breast implant surgery and her GPAC team is currently working on similar legislation in several other states. She is committed to ensure that what happened to her will not happen to other breast cancer patients. In today's episode, we learn the very personal story of Robyn and how that set her into motion to not only change the laws in her own state, but advocating for all women and working in all states to pass legislation! Robyn shares with us the list of questions you should be asking your surgeon and what the surgeon should be telling you so you have proper informed consent. Electing to have reconstructive surgery is a very personal choice and both Robyn and I advocate for you to have all the information you need to make the best decision for yourself!Connect with Robyn: Website: https://www.gpacunited.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/GPACUnited Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/gpacunited/ Email: GPACunited.robyntowt@gmail.com Schedule Your Vitality Code Call:https://calendly.com/vitality-code/discovery-call  Sign-up For The Workshop:Aimee and Naomi teach the vitality code, to help heal your body. Bio Formerly Buena Vista University's associate head coach/pitching coach, Ryan Dupic was named Concordia University Head Baseball Coach prior to the 2015 season. He just completed his seventh season as head coach in 2021. Dupic has made an immediate positive impact, leading the program to its winningest seven-year stretch in program history. The 2021 season continued the upward trajectory of the program as the Bulldogs advanced to the NAIA World Series for the first time ever. Not only that, Concordia broke school single-season records for wins, home runs, runs scored , hits and pitcher strikeouts . As part of the greatest season in program history, Dupic's squad won the Bellevue Bracket of the NAIA National Championship Opening Round and swept GPAC regular season and postseason championships. Prior to Dupic's arrival in Seward, the program had not produced a winning season since 1979. Concordia's most recent conference baseball title had come in 1986. Under Dupic, the Bulldogs reset the school single-season wins standard three years in a row (2015 through 2017 and again in 2021 So on the show we spend a bulk of our time on changing behavior and culture, but we also go over increasing leadership opportunities with players and coaching staff alignment, Here's my conversation with Ryan Dupic!  Time Stamps 01:00- Vision of the program 02:30- Changing behavior and culture 21:00- Increasing Leadership Opportunities 30:00- Increasing Alignment 42:00- Building Teams 50:00- Offseason Calendar 55:00- In Season Advice 1:00:00- Lightning Round Resources Susan Fowler Books Culture Code Legacy Thinking fast and slow Contact Ryan.Dupic@cune.edu https://twitter.com/RyanDupic Learn more about your ad choices.
