In today's conversation, I speak with Maia McCoy of the United States who is a rising star in women's sprinting.Born and raised in Tennessee, she attended the University of Tennessee where she was an All-American in the sprint events both indoors and outdoors.She likely popped onto many people's radars in 2025 though as she frequently competed on the international circuit at both diamond league and continental tour meetings, finishing the year ranked 14th in the world in the 100m and setting a personal best of 10.96 seconds.Prior to 2025 though you may have heard of her for representing Liberia where she won 100m silver at both the 2024 African Championships in Cameroon and African games in Ghana.But representing Liberia didn't work out and she is now in the process of transferring back to represent her home country of the United States.In our conversation we discuss Maia's transfer to Liberia, as well as the process of transferring back to the USA.We also break down that amazing 2025 season, finding a pocket of consistency, and becoming one of the top ranked sprinters in the world. Gout Gout recently ran a new World U20 record of 19.67 seconds in the 200m at the Australian National Championships. Despite this being an amazing performance there was a ton of controversy and questions around the mark and the other performances in the race. Christopher Morales-Williams of Canada is the newly crowned 2026 World Indoor Champion in the 400m. He is also the 2024 NCAA indoor and outdoor champion in the 400m while competing for the university of Georgia.Back in 2024, Chris ran an indoor personal best time of 44.49 seconds, which stands as the fastest indoor 400m time in history. He has had the opportunity to represent Canada at the Olympics and World Championships, and at 21 years old, his career is barely just getting started. After sickness in 2025 kept him from performing to the best of his ability, he kicked off 2026 with a gold medal and a clear outlook on his future.In our conversation we dive into that Gold medal winning performance at the world indoor champs, including an in-depth breakdown of the race. Garrett Kaalund of USC is the newly crowned 2026 NCAA indoor champion in the 200m. His winning time of 19.95 seconds was not only an NCAA record and American record, but was barely off the 30 year old World Record of 19.92, making him the 2nd fastest athlete in history.Garrett is in his final year at USC and now has his sights set on the 2026 outdoor season where he looks to upgrade his 3rd place finish in the 200m last year and sweep both the indoor and outdoor NCAA titles.In our conversation, we do a full breakdown of his record breaking indoor race, including his mindset and execution in both the heat and the final. In 2004, after almost 20 years, the 200m was removed from the World Indoor Championship schedule and has never returned. Today, the indoor 200m is primarily only run by NCAA athletes and seldom contested on the indoor pro circuit. Marie-José Pérec of France has cemented herself as one of the greatest athletes in Track & Field history. She is a 2x Olympic Champion and 2x World Champion over 400m. Her personal best of 48.25, set at the 1996 Olympics, made her the 3rd fastest women in history at that point. Additionally, not only was she the first athlete to ever defend their Olympic gold medal in the 400m after wins in 92 and 96, but she also completed the 200/400 double at the 1996 Games.
