Let us know what you thought of the show!In this intense and deeply moving episode, hear the transformative journey of RJ Johnson as he goes from the perpetrator of a grave crime and an attempted suicide, inadvertently on the wrong track, to prison, redemption in Jesus, and true freedom. As he was processing through his pain and crime in prison and starting to read the Bible, RJ said, “There was a while where I'm like, you guys have to prove to me that this is real. Like you better prove to me through all these questions that I have. And eventually I started going less from ‘Prove to me' and more towards, ‘Help me, show me, share with me what it is like to accept Christ into your life.'” But God, the Bible and other believers finally broke through to RJ. He was then able to see God all around him in prison and even witness to a fellow convict who tried to murder him. His is a life truly transformed. RJ is the founder of Not My Will Ministries where he coaches other convicted sex offenders to break patterns that got them to prison and to find freedom in Christ. RJ is the author of God Doesn't Waste a Thing. Be encouraged as you learn how God can redeem anyone from any sin and will use even the worst of circumstances to bring people to Himself. "To be fulfilled, which includes having a hard day, but a day of accomplishment, and it was tough, and it sucked, but you got through it, and you got it done. That's fulfillment." "What you feel you are is what you attract." "How are you going to get addicted on something that came from a doctor? Let's do it." "You were looking for, the magic pill, the substance that could fix things with a moment's notice." "Yeah, that's the beauty. There's a gift in pain." "So if I break this open, you see the hand with the pills falling in it with the handcuff representing and the devil that's overlooking the city and street life, the money, the prison, the bars, and then the other side, which is representing the entire spiritual transformation." Fred wants to watch a serial killer documentary, and we get to the bottom of the guy who was really responsible for the OJ Murders. Then it's all about COPS, Court TV and Fred's hijinks in the clink. We're chatting about fighting the law, and Fred won, then lost. Nosy Neighbors, and 7 little Johnsons, I mean Johnstons. We're talking about the real social media apps, prison hacks and Fred's longtime hatred of Silk. Then it's finally time for World Wide WHHAATTT??? Where we tackle Cicadas, nude cruisers, and restaurants catfishing (not long john silvers this time). Today on our show, we bring you a story by Christopher Blackwell. Chris is 42 and serving a 45-year prison sentence in Washington. Chris's story came to us through writer and Chris's mentor, Jamie Beth Cohen. This episode is about taking a small moment and bringing big meaning. Through details and emotion, Chris tells us so much about himself and his surroundings. When birds nest on the windowsill of the prison, all the men gather round. Their usual differences melt away. When the birds fly away, our narrator understands their lust for freedom.Christopher Blackwell co-founded Look 2 Justice, an organization that provides civic education to system-impacted communities and actively works to pass sentence and policy reform legislation. He is currently writing a book about solitary confinement. His writing has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, Huffington Post, and many other outlets. He is a contributing writer at Jewish Currents, a contributing editor at The Appeal, and works closely with the prison writing program Empowerment Avenue. You can follow him on X @chriswblackwell.Chris's story was originally published in The Appeal, which is a nonprofit news organization that envisions a world in which systems of support and care, not punishment, create public safety. Michael Buhrman was a naval-trained nuclear engineer, so why was he on the run as a fugitive, fleeing to Venezuela? His bad choices caught up with him and he was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Amazingly, Michael found himself with Christian cellmates at every turn. And that Bible he initially used as scratch paper? It transformed his life into the faithful witness he is today. Michael now holds a doctorate in Biblical studies.
