Kristie has been a long-time fan, even introducing her daughter Kayleigh to the fandom in recent years. She was lucky to see the song we're talking about today live at Red Rocks recently. Plus, Kayleigh tells us about her experience singing on stage with Andrew on the New Friends tour and of course, we had to discuss the new Strings Attached EP! Besides all that? We're talking about a newer fan favorite song. Do you agree? Content warning: this episode contains lengthy discussions about death and drug use, and a brief mention of suicide. On this episode we tackle two albums we've never heard before... until we listened to them for the first time for this episode! That's right, instead of perfectly curating a classic album for a prompt, today we are spinning some albums we've been meaning to check out but have not heard a single song from.First we discuss Julius's pick. As a big fan of the Stooges, they never got around to checking out any solo Iggy Pop. Produced by David Bowie, The Idiot is Pop's first solo album and was recorded while both Pop and Bowie were trying to kick their drug habits. Does it meet the high standard set by the Stooges? Find out by listening! On to Danny's pick, we talk about Tonight's the Night - the final installment of the unofficial "Ditch Trilogy." This era saw Neil Young eschewing the sounds of Harvest that skyrocketed his career. Instead, he made albums infused with raw emotion stemming from tragic losses in his life and struggles with substance abuse.Send us a text message! You can follow us here: Instagram Twitter Tiktok Check out our preview episodes to stay caught up with what we're listening to! Lauren and Russ are back with a very special guest—our good friend Robert Yaniz Jr.! This week, we're biting into Weird Al's “Toothless People,” digging into Mick Jagger's “Ruthless People,” AND chewing over the 1986 comedy Ruthless People. That's right: one conversation, three ruthless (and toothless) angles. We cover the music, the movie, and of course, the ridiculous connections only Beer'd Al can make.If you've ever wondered how a Weird Al deep cut, a Mick Jagger soundtrack entry, and a Danny DeVito/Bette Midler classic all intersect—this is the episode for you. Now, all rise for the honorable Judge Reinhold. We have now been doing this podcast for 5 years, and we thought... what better way to celebrate than to bring Andrew McMahon back to the podcast to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Everything in Transit?! Steve Jones from Concert Pipeline and I partnered on this interview with Andrew while he was out on our with Jack's Mannequin! This episode was recorded back in June while on the first leg of the tour prior to Red Rocks. This interview is available on both the Concert Pipeline podcast feed as well as this one. We asked Andrew about how he got into the headspace to return to the Jack's era, his thoughts on Red Rocks (before it happened), his fan community, what's next for him in the near future, and much more! You may be surprised at some of his answers... We are so grateful for this opportunity. This week, we lace up for a deep dive into one of Weird Al's most criminally underappreciated originals: “Don't Wear Those Shoes.” And joining us is none other than Zeb — yes, that Zeb. Everybody knows Zeb.We're talking petty breakups, questionable footwear, and how this little synthpop gem might just be riff-cousins with The Kinks' “Father Christmas.” (Seriously. The guitar hooks are suspiciously similar. We've got tabs. We've got takes.)Grab a beer, kick off those ugly shoes, and settle in for a conversation that's equal parts music geekery, Weird Al love, and friendly chaos. Because life's too short for bad footwear… and bad beer.Beer'd Al is still a member of the OddPods Media Network.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/beer-d-al-podcast--5439475/support.

The Polka Party rages on—and we're flipping the record to Side 2! This week, we're diving into “Here's Johnny,” Weird Al's tribute to The Tonight Show's iconic Ed McMahon... or is it just a catchy jam about late-night obsession? Either way, we've got a first-time guest (and first-time podcaster!) joining us: our friend Kevin!Tune in as we talk 80s TV, weird childhood memories, and whether this track deserves more love. There's laughter, a few tangents, and maybe even a McMahon impression or two. Today on the Good Music Show - we make another drastic format change to discuss a "Good" Music Movie! Brick by Br...err I mean Piece by Piece is a LEGO animated documentary about the life and career of PHARRELL WILLIAMS. Directed by Morgan Neville, and starring several artists who've worked with Pharrell, we dissect the central question surrounding this movie: why?Joining us is LEGO film expert Danny Vincent, who also happens to host a few great podcasts as well. Danny V guides us through the film's journey, and we ask the hard hitting questions that everyone wants to know. Is Kelis mentioned? Do they show the hat? How much do they reveal about Williams' relationship to Chad Hugo? All of that plus extremely dated discussions of our Super Bowl predictions, Grammy's recap, and thoughts on the Lilo and Stitch teaser (not the trailer which has since come out).Link to Piece by Piece Soundtrack PlaylistPlease check out Danny Vincent's podcasts at the links below:Looking for the Ocean: A Pixar Journey: a podcast about everything Pixar with episodes featuring Danny and Julius! It Happened One Podcast: a podcast about relationships in movies! The Snub Club: a podcast about film history!Danny's Letterboxd Page: chock full of a ton of great reviews!Send us a text message! You can follow us here: Instagram Twitter Tiktok Send us a message, we'd love to hear from you! "Dare to Re-Sequence: Making Dare to Be Stupid Make Sense" This week, Lauren and Russ take their marriage to the next level and take on a noble Weird Al challenge: rearranging the tracklist of Dare to Be Stupid into an order that (dare we say it?) makes more sense. We each came up with our own new sequence for the album, and we're diving deep into the why behind our choices. Does “Like a Surgeon” really need to be Track 1? Should “One More Minute” hit earlier or later? We've got opinions—and so will you.We also have links to both of our resequenced versions so you can listen along and decide which one reigns supreme. So put on your accordion hat and let's get stupid… in a very deliberate way.Dare to be Lauren (Lauren's)Dare to Re-Sequence (Russ's)Beer'd Al is a stupid member of the OddPods Media Network.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/beer-d-al-podcast--5439475/support.

We're talking Paul McCartney in this episode. Specifically his music during the decade of the 90s. Author JR Moores has a new book out now titled Off The Ground: Paul McCartney in the 1990s. This was an era like no other for McCartney, perhaps even the most significant decade of his entire career after the 1960s.Following a shakier 1980s, the decade would see him reemerge with greater energy, momentum, and self-belief. JR Moores's sympathetic but not uncritical new book explores McCartney's '90s, with its impressive studio and live albums, colossal tours, unexpected side-projects, imaginative collaborations, forays into classical composition, some new Beatles numbers, and a whole lot more besides. Moores reveals how McCartney's reputation began to be perceived more generously by the public, and he argues that his output and activities in the '90s would uncover more about the person behind them than in any other decade. Polka time, baby! Lauren is joined by Russ and the newly-appointed "Polka Bob" to dive into the accordion-fueled madness of "Hooked on Polkas," the high-energy album closer from Dare to Be Stupid. We break down Weird Al's brilliant medley choices, discuss what makes polka so undeniably fun, and celebrate the joy of accordion-fueled chaos. Is this the ultimate party anthem? Does "Hooked on Polkas" still hold up today? And just how does one become a certified "Polka Bob"? Former guests Hazel Jacks and Lindsay both return to the podcast to talk about another epic Andrew track. The song is in two parts, but this episode is not! We learned that this song is SORT OF the final song on Everything in Transit. We also listen to what Andrew says at the end of the track. We share our excitement about the recently announced Jack's Mannequin tour. Finally, we dig deep into the song that both Hazel and Lindsay picked (separately) so we brought them together! Also, Hazel earns her robe on this episode. Listen to learn more! Grab a snack and get ready for a fun and fascinating deep dive! In this episode we're serving up a hearty discussion on Weird Al's Dare to Be Stupid classic, "Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch." Joining me at the table is author and musicologist Lily Hirsch, and together, we unpack the humor, the history, and the gendered music themes behind this quirky parody. Was Al truly hungry for satire, or was he just forced to take a bite? We chew on that, share some laughs, and explore the broader cultural implications of gender in music. So grab a cold one (and maybe a sandwich) and tune in for another deliciously nerdy episode!Beer'd Al is a girly member of the OddPods Media Network.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/beer-d-al-podcast--5439475/support.
