Born in London Canada in 1949, Jim Chapman has been blessed with a life full of challenge and adventure. He was signed to Columbia Records in New York in 1968, played bass in rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins' band and toured across the eastern U.S. and Canada for years fronting several groups of his own.  By 1973 he was the president of a major recording studio (Springfield Sound) where he honed his skills as a songwriter, studio musician and producer. He was also a partner in a successful artist's management company, the owner of a full-service advertising and promotion company, and the founder of London's first successful musical jingle production company.  Health issues forced him to retire from the business world in 1980 and with his new wife Carlyn he went back on the road as an entertainer for much of the decade. The couple later returned to London, built another recording studio, and ran a profitable radio/TV musical jingle company and communications consultancy with clients like Kraft General Foods, Ontario Hydro, ParticipAction, The Ontario Senior Games, The Government of Canada, The Detroit Tigers' London farm team, and many others.  From 1992 until 2012 Jim was a prominent London-based public affairs newspaper and magazine columnist and radio/TV broadcaster. Prior to his retirement in 2017, Jim had also been working as a professional writer and business consultant for more than a decade.  In 1999 he died of a massive heart attack and had what is often referred to as a Near Death Experience Brought back to life in the ER, after a long recovery he wrote two books about the experience and lectured about it across Ontario and as far afield as New York, Dallas, and Seattle. He also appeared on the ABC, CTV, TVO, and Discovery television networks, on the BBC and CBC radio networks, and on dozens of radio stations and podcasts.  In the early 2000s he also returned (from time to time) to his first love, performing as a singer and instrumentalist, headlining a number of concerts as well as performing in several bands. In 2023 he created “The Jim Chapman Show”, a live songs and stories performance geared to Baby Boomers. It was an almost instant success, and Jim has performed it at dozens of venues including concert halls, banquets, churches, private gatherings and Seniors' Homes, with engagements booked into 2025.  In 2024 Jim put together a weekly musical show at London's Unity Centre, and it continues to entertain audiences with performances by top London-area musicians every Wednesday evening.  He has released three albums of original songs and his ninth and latest published book, “Battle Of the Bands” is a combination history of London's music scene in the 50s and 60s and his own sixty-year musical career. Jim's books and CDs are available through The Bookstore, elsewhere on this website.  Jim and Carlyn Chapman have been happily married for 45 years and they share their cosy retirement home with two loveable little dogs, Jo-Jo and Molly, and an elderly gentleman cat named Mr. Punkin.  www.jimchapman.caBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.

Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 169-points this morning from Friday's close, at 22,138 on turnover of $5.5-billion N-T. The market closed little changed on Friday after moving in consolidation mode throughout the session after Canada and the European Union both took retaliatory against measures against Donald Trump's tariffs. Analsysts say investors will be keeping a close eye on how the U-S government will impose reciprocal tariffs and the aftermath, which will affect global financial markets. MOFA protests rep office name change on South African gov't website The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it has lodged an official protest over the "unilateral" change to the name of Taiwan's representative office on a South African government website. The statement comes after an update to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation website listed the "Taipei Liaison Office" as the "Taipei Commercial Office." According to the foreign ministry, the South African government is seeking to "downgrade" the representative office and recategorize it as a "trade office" based in the commercial capital Johannesburg. South Africa has set a deadline of the end of this month for Taiwan to change the name of its representative office and relocate it. However, the foreign ministry is insisting that per an agreement signed the year before diplomatic relations with South Africa ended in 1998, Taiwan is permitted to operate a liaison office in Pretoria. Kaohsiung's Fengshan Marathon apologizes for PLA rifle trophies The organizers of Sunday's Fengshan Marathon in Kaohsiung have apologized for giving out trophies shaped like a Chinese military rifle. According to the Fengshan Road Running Association, it originally chose the design for the trophies because the 2025 edition of the annual marathon passed through three military academies. However, the association says it recognized the choice was "inconsiderate" and had apologized to those who received the trophies. The association also says it will contact all trophy recipients to replace the rifle-shaped trophies with alternatives. The statement was issued after one of the participants of Sunday's marathon posted a photograph of the trophy and joked about how it was shaped like Chinese rifle. Judge stalls Trump's order to speed deportations The U-S government is slamming a federal judge's decision to stop the administration from carrying out deportations under a sweeping (廣泛的) 18th century law. The A-P's Donna Warder has more. Mark Carney heading to Paris and London Canada's new Prime Minister Mark Carney is heading to Paris and London to seek alliances as he deals U-S President Donald Trump's attacks on Canada's sovereignty and economy. Carney is purposely making his first foreign trip to the capital cities of the two countries that shaped Canada's early existence. At his swearing-in ceremony on Friday, Carney noted the country was built on the bedrock (基礎) of three peoples, French, English and Indigenous. He said Canada is fundamentally a different country from America and will never, ever, in any way shape or form, be part of the United States. SpaceX capsule arrives at the International Space Station And finally, A SpaceX capsule has arrived at the International Space Station, delivering the replacements for NASA's two stuck astronauts. The new crew pulled up Sunday, just 29 hours after blasting off. The four newcomers will spend the next few days learning the station's ins and outs from Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. Then it will be time for those two to end their nine-month stay and head home. They expected to be gone just a week when they launched on Boeing's first astronaut flight last June. The Starliner capsule had so many problems that NASA insisted it come back empty (空的). Wilmore and Williams will come back via SpaceX. That was the I.C.R.T. During my recent research into Venus Retrograde, the Barbie movie appeared in my feed labelled ‘feminist icon'. Naturally, my thought process was triggered – particularly with Lilith's role in Venus' retrograde period fresh in my mind.  Suddenly I found my self in a Barbie-shaped rabbit hole, perfectly pink and full of fascinating symbolism which resulted in this episode. Do you think Margot Robbie was born to play Barbie on screen? Single Mothers has been a band that I have admired. There is a mysterious feeling behind them. The social media page is on private and the website says that they broke up in 2009, yet still play shows. But, something that you can't deny is that their music rocks. I had the opportunity to chat with Drew Thomson about everything surrounding the band and much more.  Single Mothers started when one door in Thomson's life closed. He was a real estate agent and worked under a boss who drank often. He eventually grew tired of some of the actions from the boss and other employees, and decided to quit the job. That is when he took a stab starting a band. At first, Single Mothers was a spite project. He simply wanted to be better than another local band. It even got to the point where he had two lineups for the band at once. He decided to go with the more talented group and the rest is history (hence the whole band breaking up quote on their website). Thomson didn't expect much from the band, but when they released "Self-Titled" it was his first real opportunity to play outside of London (Canada).  Thomson dabbles between Single Mothers and his own solo project called The Drew Thomson Foundation. Single Mothers has more of a revolving door. Whoever is around to tour and wants to hit the road are welcomed to join. But, at the same time, if a musician decides to sit a gig out, there are no hard feelings and they can join the next tour. We deeply explored the writing process for Thomson. On average he writes about 10 songs a week. We discussed how he decides which song is suitable for Single Mothers and which one will land with his solo endeavor.  Last year Single Mothers released an album called "Bubbles." Thomson had no real motive to put those songs out, but the band's label liked the songs a lot and wanted to put them on Spotify. Throughout this episode we went into a ton of subjects. It includes what he has been up to during the pandemic. That includes hiking and listening to audio books. He also became a big basketball fan and started learning about macro economics. We talked about music reviews and how they are based on personal opinion. Thomson chats about giving up drinking. Check out his projects below! The reality is, even if you stay local for a weekend, there are still things to do around the city.London Ontario is a great spot to raise a family, and it is the perfect size of a community where it is classified as a city, but at the same perspective classified as a well known vibrant centre where it feels like that small town community feel based on the many suburbs within the city.
