This episode is an important and difficult discussion about grief including the impact it can have on our careers. When Courtney was in her early twenties, her mom, Lois, died suddenly. Courtney had to find her way to the other side of this traumatic life event.Grief forces us to approach life situations differently and Courtney knew she had to reframe her thinking and evaluate how she saw her life moving forward. For Courtney, running was her safe place. The escape she felt while running and then through cycling, helped her to get through. Courtney's determination, passion and resilience were defining pillars in the creation of LOST Cycle–a safe space to move, feel and escape. Lois continues to be an important part of the script, but the movie that is Courtney's life continues to be shaped and defined by her resilience, her zest for life, and her full-on heart. Courtney joined us earlier this season on Episode 5 where we learned about her business LOST Cycle. (find that episode here: S3: Ep 5). "Do what you love". Although cliché, it is easier to thrive when you are passionate about what you are doing. It changes how you look at your world. Abby has always loved accounting and although her journey and career path has not been straight forward, she has found her way back to the accounting discipline. On this week's episode of Career Resilience with Jann Danyluk, Abby Acham and Jann discuss Abby's impressive career path so far. A defining moment in high school set Abby apart when she opted out of the gifted program and was sent to her ancestral home, Antigua. This shift in environment allowed her the opportunity to reflect and grow both personally and in her career. Abby is also a cannabis and mental health advocate and an integral part of the organization, Afro Canada Budsistas. Their mandate is to normalize the cannabis plant for black women. The experiences black people have with cannabis, pre- and post-legalization, is not the same as other ethnicities. Abby's path remains challenging, but she continues to prove her resiliency as she adapts to her changing circumstances. #blackexperience #accounting #careerresilience #fordkeasthumanresources More on Ford Keast Human Resources can be found here: https://www.fordkeast.com/services/human-resource-consulting/ & for all the podcast and YouTube information visit our website: https://www.career-resilience.com/ If you enjoyed this podcast or our YouTube video and need support in your own career resilience please do get in contact with Jann at HR@fordkeasthrc.ca We would love to hear from you! His history includes success in martial arts, becoming a Police Officer on patrol in Hamilton, and then joining the Cyber Crimes Division. Ken has a wonderful partner in his wife, Krutika Patil, and they share their joy in their little girl. All that is a story in itself. And with all that, he also has had to use his considerable skills to prevail through a traumatic time. Ken was impacted in every way by a spinal cord injury. Rob Austin returns to Career Resilience! This time round the discussion is about information sharing in a “super transparent” society. Formerly, we have lived with the assumption that for the most part, information would stay where it is. Rob talks about how in fact information can propagate in ways that are unexpected and can cause us problems. Or ways that can drive unexpected change. Providing examples of specific situations, Rob discusses Anonymous and the pros and cons of the information age we inhabit. Rob talks too about how he and his fellow researcher and mentor David Upton got some things wrong and the unexpected direction super-transparency can take us as individuals and as societies. Rob also provides specific tips for businesses to consider. Krutika knew she wanted a career that would mean being helpful to others. What better choice than a career in law? Krutika's journey included finding out what direction she did not want to go in this field. Interwoven with her career story, as a Child Protection Lawyer, are some of her discussions with her female friends who have gone into Big Law and what that's like for them. Law as a career choice always seems to go head to head with the concept of work/life balance. For women in particular though, it appears that a career in law is still a very difficult choice when it comes to trying to have it all.More on Ford Keast Human Resources can be found here: https://www.fordkeast.com/services/human-resource-consulting/ & for all the podcast and YouTube information visit our website: https://www.career-resilience.com/ If you enjoyed this podcast or our YouTube video and need support in your own career resilience please do get in contact with Jann at HR@fordkeasthrc.ca We would love to hear from you! "Resilience is moving forward, pushing through the ups, the downs and the bad, and keeping in the back of your mind that you'll figure this out.” This is a story from a Dad's point of view. Firefighter and entrepreneur, Rick and his wife Keira, their daughter, Thea, and son Alexander have been through a challenging journey together. At 15 years old, Thea knew she had cancer before anyone else in her family realized it; it is impossible to imagine how that must have felt for her. Her path since is a testament to her courage. The family pulled together and moved forward through it all. Each person did their part and demonstrated the strength and resilience that is all part of being a Crawford.
