Indiana put together one of its better performances of the season but ultimately came up short in an 81-76 loss at #10 Purdue. The Hoosiers led by as many as seven points in the first half and showed tremendous resilience in the second half, responding to a Purdue run with a 12-0 spurt of their own to retake the lead. However, the Boilermakers made enough plays down the stretch to secure the victory -- and Indiana made enough mistakes to ensure defeat.Mackenzie Mgbako led IU with 25 points in perhaps his best game as a Hoosier, while Trey Galloway added 16 points and sparked the second-half comeback. The five-man group of Mgbako, Galloway, Luke Goode, Anthony Leal and Umar Ballo played nearly the entire second half and showed tremendous fight, though fatigue may have been a factor late.Key Talking Points:Strong defensive effort limiting Purdue to 2-13 from three-point range20 turnovers prove costly, leading to 26 Purdue pointsBench contributes 28 points behind Galloway and GoodeLittle production from starters Myles Rice (0 points) and Malik Reneau (3 points)Final possession execution costs IU chance at potential game-tying shotPlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions. Indiana men's basketball continued their confusing season with an exciting and unpredictable chapter last night, traveling to Columbus and knocking off Ohio State by a point in overtime. It certainly wasn't perfect, with IU surrendering a double-digit lead late and allowing OSU to force the extra frame, but strong games from Luke Goode and Oumar Ballo helped propel the Hoosiers to a much-needed victory. Longtime CrimsonCast contributor Allie Sanzenbacher was on the scene to watch the game, and we get her impressions of how the Hoosiers played, how the game went, and even a little Ohio State football talk at the very end.

Kasparas Jakucionis is back, and with him, the good (nay, DOMINANT) side of Illini basketball. They smoke a reeling Indiana Hoosiers team at the Bizarro Assembly Hall 94-69, notching their 13th win of the season. Mike Carpenter reacts during a second half which started off sloppily, but Illinois quickly regained their groove. As the game came towards its conclusion, Tomislav Ivisic had words for Luke Goode after a physical play, leading to a scrum that rekindled some long-lost hatred between the two programs. The dust settled in a half-empty Hoosier arena, as the Indiana faithful were reminded of their two-decades worth of suckitude. Too bad, so sad.
Lon and Derek break down Illinois' 25-point win at Indiana on Tuesday, along with Kasparas Jakucionis' return and the turmoil in Bloomington. Later, what did Luke Goode step over the line in that game?
Indiana continued its strong play of late, using a dominant second half and balanced scoring attack to secure its fourth Big Ten win and fifth straight victory overall. After a sluggish start, the Hoosiers found their rhythm behind outstanding performances from Myles Rice (19 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists) and another efficient outing from Oumar Ballo, ultimately pulling away for a comfortable double-digit win.For the third straight game, Indiana showed improved offensive flow and spacing playing with one big man, as four players scored in double figures while the team hit timely three-pointers and controlled the offensive glass. The second-half backcourt play of Rice and Trey Galloway proved particularly decisive, as the duo scored or assisted on 15 straight points to help Indiana build a lead it wouldn't relinquish.Key discussion points from the show included:The continued benefits of improved floor spacing and offensive balanceStrong performances from role players like Luke Goode (4-5 from three)The team's growing confidence and connectivity in recent gamesImproved ball security against USC's pressure (just 6 turnovers)Questions about maintaining this momentum heading into a challenging road stretchPlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions. Indiana's concerning trend of lopsided losses continued in Lincoln, as the Hoosiers fell to Nebraska 85-68 in a game that spotlighted many of this team's persistent issues, particularly on the defensive end.The Hoosiers showed flashes of improved play and modern offensive principles in stretches, including battling back from early deficits in each half to make it a one-point game with seven minutes remaining. However, as has happened far too often under Mike Woodson, Indiana collapsed down the stretch as Nebraska closed on a 17-1 run.Key topics discussed and analyzed in the postgame show include:Indiana's defensive struggles, as they allowed Nebraska to shoot over 61% and score 1.25 points per possessionThe unusual shot distribution, with IU attempting 35 three-pointers while post players Malik Reneau and Oumar Ballo combined for just 10 shotsMyles Rice's impressive 20-point performance, including a crucial run where he scored 13 straight points that kept Indiana in the game (temporarily)Luke Goode's continued emergence as an energy player and leader despite the team's strugglesConcerning trends about IU's ability to compete for 40 minutes on the roadQuestions about whether this team's defensive issues can be fixed given both scheme and personnel limitationsPlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions. Indiana's 76-57 victory over Miami (OH) displayed both the team's immense potential when locked in and lingering concerns about consistency. The Hoosiers built an early lead, let Miami back in, then pulled away late behind strong performances from their frontcourt. Omar Ballo's dominant 18-rebound, 6-assist effort and Malik Reneau's efficient 19-point performance highlighted IU's size advantage, but 16 turnovers and defensive communication issues remain worrisome with Big Ten play approaching. Mike Woodson emphasized the need to clean up defensive switches and maintain better focus throughout games.Other key storylines discussed:A tale of two halves, with IU outscoring Miami 37-21 after halftimeTrey Galloway's improved three-point shooting (3-4) and overall steady playMyles Rice's efficient 17-point performance despite some turnover issuesMackenzie Mgbako's struggles (4 points) and the challenge of staying engaged when shots aren't fallingStrong bench contributions, particularly from Luke Goode who provided energy and hustle playsPlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions. After struggling in the Bahamas, Indiana showed some encouraging signs on offense in a decisive 97-71 victory over Sam Houston State, highlighted by a smaller lineup and strong bench contributions.Mike Woodson demonstrated flexibility by moving away from the two-big lineup that had struggled previously, while Luke Goode (career-high 18 points) and Anthony Leal provided crucial energy and execution off the bench that helped spark the offense. The defensive concerns remain, but the Hoosiers showed they may be able to compensate with improved offensive spacing and tempo when playing with just one big man on the floor.Key discussion topics included:The stark difference in offensive flow and spacing when playing with one big versus twoMyles Rice's second-half emergence after early strugglesThe invaluable hustle and leadership provided by Anthony Leal in his expanded minutesIndiana's improved defensive rebounding after struggles in that area in the BahamasWhat tonight's lineup adjustments could mean for the rotation going forwardContinued concerns about perimeter defense despite the comfortable winPlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions.
