More than 300 films will light up the screens of the Oriental Theatre, Avalon Theater, Times Cinema, Fox-Bay Cinema Grill, and the new Jan Serr Studio Cinema (located inside the Kenilworth Building). Dozens of filmmakers and special guests will hobnob with the hobnobbers. Oodles of events will keep the city in a tizzy. We'll host a horror-movie-themed axe-throwing party at AXE MKE. Filmmakers Vohn Regensburger, Wash Westmoreland, Richard Glatzer, and Chris Bruno talk about their new movies: A Remarkable Life and The Last of Robin Hood. Regensburger is the writer/director of the first film, which stars Bruno, who also helped with the writing and served as one of the producers. Glatzer and Westmoreland are the writers/directors of the second offering to be discussed. Film critic Mack Bates will co-host.   A Remarkable Life tells the story of a man who finds his life falling apart and is forced to examine his identity, his manhood and his sense of self. Lenny (played by Bruno) faces loss of his job, a son with Asperger's Syndrome, and a wife who's fallen in love with the son's female doctor. It's a highly entertaining film - but one that gives us a lot to think about. Director Regensburger also composed the impressive music score, just as he did for his first film, Last of the Romantics. The Last of Robin Hood  follows Errol Flynn's scandalous affair with a star-struck teenage girl. Kevin Kline plays Flynn in his later years -- not the heartthrob from The Adventures of Robin Hood. Dakota Fanning and Susan Sarandon play the young girl and her mother who enables the affair, respectively. This fascinating film deals with fame and the high price it can exact. Glatzer and Westmoreland have also written and directed Quinceanera, Pedro, The Fluffer and Grief.

Cast members include Kevin Kline, Dakota Fanning and Susan Sarandon. This intriguing movie deals with the desire for fame and the high price it exacts. Kline plays Flynn; Fanning portrays the somewhat naive teen; and Sarandon is her fame-obsessed mother. In The Calling, a mysterious and suspenseful thriller, Sarandon portrays a world-weary detective trying to solve a series of gruesome murders. With these two very different roles, this talented Oscar-winning actress again proves her versatility. An avid Sarandon fan, Mack Bates conducted an in-depth interview with Sarandon a few years ago for The Leader,  a University of Wisconsin student newspaper. He also contributed to Tucker's book about Sarandon (Susan Sarandon: A True Maverick) and now writes for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He also serves as a staff blogger for Milwaukee Magazine's official film blog.
