The United States is back on top of the soccer world following a 1-0 victory over Brazil in the 2024 Olympic Gold Medal match. Hosts Jordan Angeli, Duda Pavao and Jess McDonald breakdown Alyssa Naeher's incredible performance, Mal Swanson's intelligence and this team's legacy amongst the great U.S. squads of the past. We also debate the importance of Olympic lifeguards, track tiaras and Despicable Me socks.
It wasn't always pretty, but the result remains the same. The USWNT is back in the Olympic Gold Medal match after back-to-back 1-0 extra time wins over Japan and Germany. Jordan Angeli, Jess McDonald and Duda Pavao react to those games, provide player ratings and talk about the stunning Brazil win over World Cup Champions, Spain. Allie Long joins us again to do some This or That, in which they decide whether or not Simone Biles or Katie Ledecky are the bigger G.O.A.T.!? We also preview the final and discuss if Emma Hayes needs to make some shock lineup changes in order to put the best XI on the pitch.

Three group matches, three wins! But now the tournament really starts for the U.S. Women's National Team. Hosts Jordan Angeli, Duda Pavao and Jess McDonald discuss the unique challenge that Japan will present the U.S. in the quarterfinal. They also discuss how Emma Hayes will tweak the starting XI in light of Sam Coffey's second yellow card and Tierna Davidson's injury. Plus, Jordan, Duda and Jess go through their bracket predictions and why getting tackled by Ilona Maher is much better than a volleyball to the face.
Levels. Levels. Levels. The U.S. posted a clinical 4-1 victory over Germany in their second group stage match, but we think they can soar much higher. Hosts Jordan Angeli, Duda Pavao and special guest, Allie Long break it all down and preview how the U.S. will handle the Australia match knowing that they only need a point to win the group. They'll discuss how the U.S. must progress throughout the tournament once they're forced to play the likes of Spain, France, Japan and some of the heaviest hitters in the tournament. Plus, what's the better party sport, ping pong or badminton? We debate.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for the USWNT against Zambia to open up Olympic play in Nice, France. The U.S. dominated the first half -- getting the vibes back -- but left a lot to be desired with a lackluster second-half performance. Which version will we see against Germany in their second match? Hosts Jordan Angeli, Duda Pavao and Jess McDonald break it all down and preview the heavyweight clash against Germany. Plus...we debate crepes vs french toast and prove a full update on all the action from the rest of the tournament.
We're back! Hosts Jordan Angeli, Duda Pavao and former USWNT Forward Jess McDonald deliver a full preview of this year's Paris Olympic soccer tournament. Watch for full analysis of Emma Hayes' coaching style, the identity of this iteration of the USWNT and a projected starting XI for the team's opener against Zambia. We're also breaking down all three groups -- including top players and teams to track throughout -- and predictions for the medal rounds and individual awards.

Missal discusses the VA OIG's latest Semiannual Report to Congress that covered our oversight work from October 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024. Specifically, he shares results of our most recent work related to VA's Electronic Health Record Modernization program. In addition, IG Missal shares his thoughts on the VA OIG's work related to VA's personnel suitability program as well as recent crime and fraud alerts. This podcast edition also includes highlights of the VA OIG's work from April 2024. “It's wonderful to be able to talk about all the incredible work that our staff performs in the service of our nation's veterans. I could not be more proud of the progress our staff has made in achieving our mission to serve veterans and the public by conducting meaningful, fair, and evidence-driven oversight of VA.” – Inspector General Michael J. New week, new topic and this week NHL's rebuilding franchises will be on the crosshair. We are going to take a stroll to the current bottom feeder teams of the NHL and see how their possible rebuilding and retooling processes are coming along. As a Habs fan, I can only get so much enjoyment out of my team through an 82 game schedule without any postseason action so purely because of it, I wanted to show my love for the other fans as well that belong to the same support group as I do, who's participants (fans) have seen better days (at least hopefully) since they started to follow the best sport in the entire world. And the aim here is to keep things light and shiny so, expect to hear some prospect talk as well as speculation regarding each organization's best future outcome. On episode 204 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, Executive Editor Ryan McQuade is joined by AwardsWatch contributors Sophia Ciminello and Dan Bayer dive the newest AwardsWatch Oscar retrospective covering the 91st Academy Awards and the films of 2018. If you can remember back to just five years ago, the Oscars were coming off the heels of a couple of years of great winners from the Academy, with Spotlight, Moonlight, and The Shape of Water taking home the previous three Best Picture prizes. It looked like, with new members added every year, the Oscars were done giving disappointing winners their top honor, but the 2018 Oscar season proved to be a massive step back for the Academy as Green Book won Best Picture, and went down in history as one of the worst winners in Oscar history. Moreover, the season not only had other films of questionable quality nominated as well, but it started a path towards a host-less ceremony, ideas of cutting categories, not inviting the acting winners from the year before to the ceremony to present, and other problems that would come up in one form or another for the next few years at the Oscars. In this in depth retrospective, Ryan, Sophia and Dan break down the year in film, the good and bad nominees, and the overall legacy of Green Book's win and the rest of the winners on the night. They also talked about where they were at just five years ago, the campaigning that got us this Best Picture win, and how similar tactics have been used since for both good and bad reasons. After doing that, Ryan gave out some Oscar Trivia for Sophia and Dan to answer, and then they got into playing 'Should've, Could've, Would've,' where they replace nominees from the 91st Academy Awards and give out their personal winners for the year. The films included in their discussion ranged from If Beale Street Could Talk, Burning, Leave No Trace, A Simple Plan, First Reformed, Hereditary, Widows, BlacKkKlansman, Private Life, Roma, First Man, The Old Man and the Gun, Disobedience, Suspiria, The Favourite, Paddington 2, Can You Ever Forgive Me, Blindspotting, Wildlife, and so many more. You can listen to The AwardsWatch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 2h32m. We will be back next week to talk about our Top 5 Best/Worst franchise reboots, inspired by the latest Exorcist revival. Till then, let's get into it. Music: “Modern Fashion” from AShamaleuvmusic (intro), “B-3” from BoxCat Games Nameless: The Hackers RPG Soundtrack (outro).
Midge Purce and Katie Nolan are back for one final look back at the 2023 Women's World Cup. They begin by looking back at how this World Cup had everything: a new winner, shocking exits, and a Swedish goalkeeper playing out of her mind. Then, they revisit the World Cup Final and Spain's 1-0 victory. Afterwards, they speak on the Spanish F.A. and the shocking post-game actions from their president. Later, Sam Mewis joins the show to talk about her favorite moments from the tournament, what to look forward to in the Olympics, and whether her sister, Kristie Mewis, has the best World Cup record of all time. Finally, Midge and Katie give out their own tournament best ofs, including the coveted award for "Most Swag."
Midge and Katie have a ton to cover, starting with the breaking news that Vlatko Andonovski has resigned as USWNT head coach. Then, they talk through both semifinals, Australia's heartbreak and Sweden S(pain). After that, they look ahead to the World Cup Final, Spain vs. England, and make predictions as to who will play, who will sit, and who will win. Later on, they're joined by Ali Riley to talk about how players can make meaningful change and she shares a never-before-heard World Cup story that will definitely bring you to tears. Lastly, Alyssa Thompson stops by to talk about her favorite moments of the tournament and what comes next for her, and the USWNT.
Midge and Katie dive straight into the drama that Lineth Beerensteyn got herself into when she smack talked the USWNT. They follow that up with a recap of Netherlands - Spain, then they discuss the two yellow card rule and how it is *ahem* bad. Then, they talk about Japan's unexpected exit and the Swedish side that just keeps winning. Later, they're joined by USA legend Brandi Chastain to talk about her feelings on the USWNT's tournament and who she thinks should be the next head coach - and the answer will definitely surprise you. They finish up by laughing at how no one will hug the Spanish coach and Midge sings a surprising, yet perfect, song about Barbie.
Midge and Katie have all the feels as they dissect the US' early World Cup exit. They start with an in-depth look at the penalty kicks that decided it all - who shot when, some highlights like Andi, Kristie, and Alyssa Naeher (?!) scoring bangers, and the eventual loss by a millimeter. Then, they look back at the full USA vs. Sweden match and how tactically the USA was finally getting there. After that, they're joined by Becky Sauerbrunn to discuss the legacy this team leaves behind as well as the new beginnings that are to come in future World Cups and in next year's Olympics. Finally, Midge and Katie look at England vs. Nigeria and pour one out for Ify, then pick who, if anyone, they're taking to win the quarterfinals, and eventually, the tournament.
Midge and Katie are back as they get together to discuss the end of the group stage, with Portugal in the rear view. First, they react to the 0-0 draw, finally seeing Lynn Williams, and a very soft yellow that could mean everything. Then, they look into recent comments about the team and the negative turn that has occurred in fandom and the media, and discuss how the US team is absolutely in it to win it. Later, they're joined by USWNT goalkeeper A.D. Franch who gives her take on the US in the knockouts and what it might take to beat Sweden. Finally, Katie and Midge look at some of the other knockout matches and speculate who might go all the way.
Midge and Katie prep you for USA vs. Netherlands, the second group stage match, and the one that will likely decide the fates of both squads. First, they look back at the history of the rivalry, including deciding what Megan Rapinoe's PK celebration was called, the not-very-fun Olympics, and what Netherlands did vs. Portugal this World Cup. Later, they're joined by Allie Long to discuss her prep for the Netherlands in 2019 as well as who, if anyone, has seen Barbie on the current squad. Lastly, Katie and Midge take a look at some of the other huge scorelines, discuss what exactly is wrong with Norway, and decide which upcoming matches to watch with one big twist.
The 91st returns and Midge and Katie are back to break down all of the moments from USA vs. Vietnam and the 3-0 victory that left everyone having an ok time. First, they talk through the drama and big moments, a stretcher, VAR, Sophia's nutmeg proficiency, the return of Rose, and what and who exactly is a "Cruyff?" Later, USWNT World Cup champion Abby Dahlkemper joins the show to discuss her first impressions of the '23 team and to help Katie and Midge give nicknames to the new look defense. Later, Midge and Katie talk through some of the other big news, like the Fantastic Ferns, Australia's Sam Kerr loss, and all of the penalty saves. Finally, Katie reveals who exactly is on her USWNT jersey - and trust us, you will never guess who.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge, my fortress, my God. In Him will I trust.” The Book of Psalms is called the Little Bible. It's a treasure house of spiritual riches. The 91st Psalm has stood the test of time for thousands of years. It's called the great protective psalm. Psalms means songs to God, odes to the deity. Each person has her or his identity in the Psalms. The 91st Psalm is a great source of inspiration and comfort to all men and women throughout the world. Millions meditate on it in all walks of life, and it has saved the lives of many people from shipwreck, being lost at sea, from fires, from all manner of trouble. Thousands of people turn to this Psalm for protection, for healing, and in all sorts of emergencies and troubles. Listen to this Psalm quietly. Take one verse at a time. Savor it, dwell upon it, give it your attention, devotion. Think about it from all angles. Think about the meaning of each verse, and know these great truths are sinking down into your subconscious mind and will be resurrected in your daily life, just like you deposit seeds in the ground. Seeds grow after their kind. This is called prayer and meditation. To meditate is to give your attention or your devotion to certain truths, and think about them from all angles so that you ingest and absorb them, and they become a living part of you. That is real meditation. Then you demonstrate what you've been meditating on. If you are fearful or worried, read the Psalm aloud slowly and quietly, and you will dissipate, neutralize, and obliterate the fear. There was a teenage joke we love to pull on people that brings me to a serious point I want to make today about life. In those days of endless summers, when one of our friends was walking away from us and just about to go around the corner, we would yell at them to come back. When they turned around and walked all the way back, we would say to them, "how far would you have been if you hadn't turned around"? We always thought it was funny. Yesterday the Holy Spirit was talking to me about something in my life that would have altered most of what I enjoy today if I had turned around and gone back. The enemy of our soul doesn't have to kill us to stop our purposes in life, and all he has to do is distract us and get us on the wrong pathway that leads to nowhere. The "if onlys" in life Will short-circuit your forward progress and cause you to miss the target if you dwell on them. For a good personal lesson, just think about some of the dumb things you almost did as a young person that would've been a disaster in your life. Whoops, don't dwell on that; this is just a lesson to be learned. Thank God today with me that psalms 91 is a reality in our lives. He leads us, and he feeds us all the days of our life. Vaughan and Fiona Staples' Saga! Gone since 2018 and the hype is as big as ever. The most recent Book of Boba Fett rundown for episode 4, The Gathering Storm, can be found at 1:03:51. I cover a brief overview of the episode's events, including more on how cool Fennec Shand is, the story of the hatred between Wookies and Trandoshans, and theories on where the final 3 episodes will be taking us--or who they'll show us. Since they've both been released, I went ahead and covered both the Marvel (1:10:08) and DC (1:27:50) April comic book solicitations. I cover these each month because it's a good way to keep your ear to the ground as to what's going on at two of the biggest players in the geek industries, as well as to hopefully pique listeners' interests to something in those goings-on. It's also a good way to get to know common creator names in the industry! I'll be back with another episode next week, on January 31st! We'll cover comic Picks (based off this week's Pulls) and next week's Pull list, this week's Book of Boba Fett episode 5, and anything else relevant! We're already through the first month of 2022, folks, keep it sweaty!
