ente ilustra luminoso.

Roma is a beautiful movie. Even the sound is beautiful. To feel this immersed in a drama is pretty astounding. Overall we liked it but maybe not Best Picture.
The most personal project to date from Academy Award-winning director and writer Alfonso Cuarón, "Roma" follows Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a young domestic worker for a family in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City. Delivering an artful love letter to the women who raised him, Cuarón draws on his own childhood to create a vivid and emotional portrait of domestic strife and social hierarchy amidst political turmoil of the 1970s. Oscar-nominated actresses Yalitza Aparicio and Marina de Tavira came to BUILD to speak on the Oscar-nominated film.
An Unprecedented Situation. ***This is a Non-Spoiler Episode*** As we must do, we make some general allusions to plot movements throughout these films. But we do try our very best and succeed in avoiding full spoilers. Though investigations can be made by some of our clues to what happens. So beware if you’re allergic to that. Intro / What’s a Category Review - Top of the Show Snubs - 1:44 BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS CATEGORY OVERVIEW Amy Adams, Vice Why She’ll Win - 12:13 Why She Won’t - 17:15 Marina de Tavira, Roma Why She’ll Win - 21:00 Why She Won’t - 25:15 Regina King, If Beale Street Could Talk Why She’ll Win - 26:16 Why She Won’t - 30:15 Emma Stone, The Favourite Why She’ll Win - 33:15 Why She Won’t - 38:48 Rachel Weisz, The Favourite Why She’ll Win - 43:09 Why She Won’t - 47:14 Perfecting Perfection Re-Rank - 49:00 Outro/Words of Wisdom/Social Media - 54:45 We conclude our reviews of the 4 acting categories with this episode on Best Supporting Actress. This show also works as one final preview of the BAFTA’s, which will happen this Sunday, and which we’ll recap for you on Monday with MMO Weekly. The supporting actress category has been and continues to be one of the most intriguing of the Oscars Race. There’s a strange and unlikely fact of Regina King winning the Critics Associations, Globe, and Choice awards before somehow not getting nominated for the SAG or BAFTA. Then of course, we have 5 of the better performances of the year to debate. It’s a loaded year, and quite the category, and MMO is all over it. The format is simple, tried, & true. We discuss the snubs after our intro, and then we breakdown each nominee’s chances with arguments for and against them winning. Amy Adams has the narrative and the Academy politics on her side. Marina De Tavira will probably be in the most awarded film of the night and has a performance on the rise in people’s perceptions (including ours). Regina King has narratives in her favor, as well as stats. But her unprecedented situation draws worries from us both, before we calm ourselves with a discussion of her tremendous performance. Then again, Regina may not win because of both those roles in The Favourite. Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz acted the hell out of their parts in one of our best films and one of the Academy’s most nominated on the year. We offer new takes on why these performances might rival King’s at both the BAFTA’s and back across the pond at the Oscars. If you enjoy this category review, we’ve already released many others including Best Original Song, Supporting Actor, Lead Actress, Animated Feature, and Lead Actor. We’ll also weigh in upon the Screenplays, Director, and Picture before Oscar night. We’ve also reviewed nearly all of the films in these categories in our OSP’s, and we now have nearly fifty 2018 movie reviews in our Oscar Sprint Profile and Movie Event series. Our MMO Weekly episodes give you a race update and recap all of the big award show precursors on our regularly scheduled variety show. Then we also have many special presentations including retrospectives, interviews, MMO made up Award Shows, and many Oscar off-season episodes reviewing and dissecting all our favorite series of films. As always, let us know what you think. We’re @MMandOscar on Twitter, and we’re on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and Gmail. You can subscribe / rate / review / share & listen to us on iTunes, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Google Play, Tune In, Spotify, and just about wherever you enjoy podcasts. Then as awards season comes to a climactic finale, don’t forget our slogan. When reality sucks, keep watching movies with us. We’re a year round movie appreciation and review podcast, and we thank you for listening.
