As the main Geektown Radio podcast is still on a little break whilst I'm away, we have new episode of the Geektown Behind The Scenes podcast, and this time I'm chatting with the wonderful Claire Lim, aka "WeeClaire".Claire is a presenter, Twitch streamer, podcast host, and all-around lovely human being. If you've ever been to an MCM Comic-Con you will know Claire as one of the Main Stage panel hosts, but you may also know her from her work on BBC The Social, Colin Murray's show on BBC Radio 5 Live, the NME, her REAL IMAGINED FUTURES podcast, or a myriad of other interviews around the internet and tv.An accomplished interviewer, Claire has chatted with some of the biggest names in Hollywood including Jeff Goldblum, Jamie Lee Curtis, Linda Hamilton, Michael Sheen, Simon Pegg, and many many more! Outside of interviewing, she fronted the BBC documentary 'Screen Grab', appeared on '007: Licence To Drive' on Sky, and co-hosted 'The Great PC Build-Off' for Intel. She also hosts panels at hosted panels at Scotland Comic Con and FanX Salt Lake in America, and is a Twitch Partner, regularly streaming to her community of fans.In the interview, we discuss Claire's approach to interviewing, and some of her favourite guests. She recently hosted the Main Stage at MCM Birmingham (which I, of course, missed as I am away right now!) so I wanted to get her thoughts on how things went, and she also gives some behind-the-scenes info about the panels! We also discuss how she got started, what she's doing next, and, also a random discussion about the ‘Walking Dead' finale (spoiler free!)Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. We are back with another special Geektown Radio podcast this week, as MCM Comic-Con returned to Birmingham over last weekend! We also have some news, and, of course, a rundown of UK air dates for next week on TV.MCM Comic-Con made its return to Birmingham over the weekend, and did an amazing job bringing geeky fans together from across the country. It was great to see some old friends return, and lots of people out enjoying the show together after spending so many months locked away during the pandemic. To celebrate the return, we have a mix of interviews and panel clips from MCM Birmingham. First up we have interviews with the cast of the brilliant 'Red Dead Redemption 2'. That includes Roger Clark, who plays the central character and the main protagonist of the game; Rob Wiethoff who plays John Marston, the main protagonist of the first 'Red Dead Redemption', and the secondary protagonist of 'Red Dead Redemption 2'; And lastly, Peter Blomquist, the lovely guy who couldn't be more different from his character Micah Bell, the main antagonist of RDR2.Following that, we have a few clips from the stage panel with Ian McDiarmid, best known as the wonderfully evil Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars. Ian did a full 40 min stage panel, however, we are only allowed to air clips, so I picked out a few of the more interesting answers for the show. You will be able to find more clips later this week over on our YouTube channel.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/geektown. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Ku Liang has potentially one of the best jobs you can think of - working with the coolest events around the globe and trying to figure how to make them even better? Ku is the Global Director of Business Development at ReedPop - the company behind some of the biggest comic and pop culture conventions in the world including New York Comic Con, the MCM chain of events in the UK (which is running its Birmingham event this weekend, where guests include Star Wars's C3PO Anthony Daniels and geek hall of famer Sean Astin), PAX events around the world, and the relatively new kid on the block, Comic Con Africa. It's Ku's job to help develop and grow these events further ... no mean feat when there are over 40 events worldwide, each with their own regional challenges and trends against an ever-changing international pop culture backdrop. Against the backdrop of the MCM Birmingham event this weekend, Ku was in Johannesburg recently for the second edition of massively successful Comic Con Africa and was kind enough to chat to us about many things including: - how Japanese animation and manga, a good smattering of kung fu books and plenty of Chinese translated sci-fi novels started him on a lifelong path of geekdom. - how his extensive experience in retail and publishing helped give him the clarity and understanding of what fans may want, and how to make sure ReedPop is getting it right. - and whether the convention scene, and fandom itself, in the US and internationally is close to hitting its saturation point. Plus we discuss how the recent Comic Con Africa experience in Johannesburg compares to other Comic Con events internationally.
