With Bend Studio laying off 30% of its staff as it gears up to enter a lengthy pre-production stage, it's clear their next release (should it ever materialize) will be on PlayStation 6. This is just the most recent example in a lengthening string of Sony absolutely botching its first party initiative, deploying teams on projects that make no sense, purchasing studios that have never even released a game, and complicating a service game strategy that -- at least on paper -- made a lot of sense. Where does the buck stop, exactly? And how lucky is Sony and the PlayStation brand that they've been able to coast almost entirely on external content and commercial inertia all the while? Rob and Patrick have been parkouring it up in Dying Light 2 this week. Or rather, kinda parkouring it up while they get enough levels to unlock the full parkour suite? They go in deep on the structural problems with the latest from Techland, reminisce about Dying Light and Dead Island, and bemoan the trajectory that first person open world design has taken. Cado is of course still living his best(?) Pokémon life in Pokémon Legends Arceus, mostly because he's finally getting around to unlocking the best rideable Pokémon. Según lo que pone en su —PRECIOSA— web oficial, su nombre viene de los juegos que «crean juntos: mundos vivos y exuberantes que unen a los jugadores para cultivar amistades duraderas. Mundos que ofrecen sorprendentes experiencias multijugador y prosperan con la ayuda de sus comunidades». Tienen un proyecto que está ya en desarrollo, una aventura de fantasía «compartida» inspirada en otros juegos con «momentos compartidos con extraños» y para el que buscan empleados. Este estudio me tiene entusiasmado. - Yatch Club Games, los creadores de Shovel Knight, anuncian su nuevo título: Mina the Hollower. Una aventura de acción con una estética retro a lo Game Boy Color y según explica el propio estudio en Kickstarter, una jugabilidad inspirada en Link's Awakening, Castlevania o Bloodborne. El proyecto ha alcanzado en pocas horas su objetivo de financiación y no me extraña, tienen la confianza de los muchos que disfrutaron Shovel Knight, su anterior título. - Sony supera los 17.3 millones de PS5 vendidas. Este anuncio surge tras los resultados del último informe financiero de Sony, y no es lo único destacable: durante la llamada de accionistas, también se han revelado los planes de lanzar diez juegos como servicio antes de 2026. Aquí evidentemente estará Bungie, que trabajan en una «nueva gran IP», pero también otros viejos conocidos de la casa Playstation, como pueden ser los de Naughty Dog. Horror fiction has long been one of my greatest passions and perhaps the best expression of the form is the short story. For this episode, I gathered a panel to talk about our favorite short stories. So take notes because there are plenty of tales mentioned here you'll want to read yourself. We talk in detail about 60 or 70 classic horror fiction shorts. Like last October when I gathered a panel for best Horror novels, I put together a panel of experts. First up is a return guest Laird Barron, who is the award-winning author of many books my favorites being the Isiah Coleridge trilogy. For many years Laird has been considered one of the best short story authors in the field. Next up Mary Sangiovanni is an award-winning horror and thriller writer of over a dozen novels, including The Hollower trilogy and The Kathy Ryan series, one time a co-host The Horror Show with Brian Keene and the cosmic horror-themed, Cosmic Shenanigans, and is currently a co-host of The Ghost Writers Podcast. And then representing readers is my old friend. Marc Rothenberg. He is one of the biggest horror readers I know, but not a writer. He is a judge and is serious when it comes to horror fiction.
