Fellow podcasters unite! It's none other than the Word Bros themselves, Bob Frantz and Kevin Cuffe and they're here to tell you fine folks about their newest series from Mad Cave Studios SKEETERS. Issue #1 comes out December 6th and you're in for a real treat. This is a good old-fashioned creature feature but with a modern sensibility. Kelly Williams killed it on the art and none other than Chas! Pangburn lettered it. Bob and Kevin got tired of hearing me go on and on about how much I loved their series Metal Shark Bro that they graciously joined me on the podcast so I could tell them in person, sort of. I loved hearing about how this series came together and how Bob and Kevin's writing partnership works. You also just might get to hear my Gizmo impression if it makes the cut. So hop in, buckle up, and join me and the Word Bros on a journey into the very heart of awesome comics podcasts. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We love Joe Corallo. If you’ve ever spoken to the man for longer than three minutes, you’d quickly see why. Joe is engaging, kind, funny, and a hell of a talented writer and editor. Joe is the mastermind editor behind the Eisner-nominated anthology Mine! A celebration of liberty and freedom for all benefiting Planned Parenthood. (with the recent Supreme Court decision reversing Roe vs Wade this anthology is more important than ever) Joe is also the co-creator of the Comixology Originals series The Never-Ending Party is available now on Amazon! It’s free to read if you’re an Amazon Prime member. We chat with Joe about the do’s and don’ts of networking, how long should you wait to email that editor you met, and proper Ringo Award show attire. Heros Con 2022 Wrap up!We’d also like to wish a warm welcome to all of those fine folks who signed up for our newsletter at Heroes Con in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kevin and I love this show. Heroes holds a special place in my heart: This is the show where we met Walter and decided to embark on the creative journey that birthed Metalshark Bro. This is where Kevin and I met lifelong friends like Jamie Jones and Kyle Starks and cemented relationships with Drew Moss and Marc Deerling. This year proved to be no different. We made some new friends in Josh Hood, Jeremy Brooks, John Burgin, Sean Von Gorman, and David Byrne. That is to say, we met them IRL as the kids say. We also met two spunky go-getters Brie and Jennifer through our buddy JOSEPH SCHMALKE. We sold a lot of books, gave out some sage-like advice on the business of making comics, and set up future projects. We’d like to thank Shelton, Karla, and all of the staff that made Heroes another dynamite show. See you all next year. Currently Reading/Recently finished booksNorm MacDonald Based on a True Story: I’ve been wanting to read this for quite a while. It is proving to be worth the wait. Hitler’s American Freinds: A look at the many groups, people, and political organizations that we Nazi supporters in the United States during the war.The Many Lives of Laila Starr: This one goes without saying. It was fantastic. Bold storytelling and artwork. A masterpiece. Criminal Omnibus Vol1: Found it half off (half off!) at an Anime Con I took my daughter and her friends to. What a great book. Bitter Root Vol 1: A lot of fun. The writing is sharp and the artwork slaps. Not sure why I waited so long to hear this but man, it’s great. Cheers,The Word Bros!Shop the Word Bros Store! Every week is shark week for Walter Ostlie and Bob Frantz of "Metalshark Bro"! This comic (co-written by Frantz and Kevin Cuffe) is a joyful, insane romp about a laid back shark forced to do the dirty work of Satan's nephew so he can just get back to his life in the sea. These two bring just as much fun and electricity to the conversation as they discuss everything from what type of hat a flying eyeball would wear, to which Jack Nicholson character GI Joe's "Shipwreck" is based on, and ponder if Jabberjaw was really a good drummer. Shark Meets Demon, Shark Becomes Shark Man This week on the show Johnny and Brian are joined in studio by Bob Frantz (Monty the Dinosaur) to talk about his latest Kickstarter, Metalshark Bro! Back it today and support indie comics! Metalshark Bro Metalshark Bro is a 100+ page paperback comic. At least 88 pages of story and a slew of pinups from some of the most metal talent in the comic bizness. There will be cursing, violence…oh sweet, bloody violence, but there will be no nudity or sex, maybe innuendo. Like Deadpool, if he was eaten by a shark and it was all scored by shredding guitars.
