Are you empowering others or unleashing agency? In this episode, Judith Katz and Fred Miller join Kevin to discuss the role of agency in the workplace. While autonomy and authority are often topics of discussion, agency — the ability for all individuals, regardless of their role or tenure, to possess power, influence, and a voice — is crucial for high-performance organizations. They explain how organizational cultures often "smother" this natural agency through excessive rules, approvals, and "checkers checking checkers," which leads to the slow implementation of even the best strategies. Judith and Fred highlight that organizations need to transition from control-based leadership to trust-based leadership. Hey everyone, welcome back to the Beyond the Mountains podcast! Today, I'm joined by an incredible guest—Giulia Monego. Instagram profile : @giuliamonego She's a big mountain athlete with a passion for skiing steep terrain, but that's just the beginning of her story.Giulia grew up in Venice, Italy—a city surrounded by water and canals, far from the mountains—but thanks to her ski-loving parents, she spent winters in Cortina, where she fell in love with speed, competition, and the thrill of the slopes. She started as an alpine ski racer, became a ski instructor, and then pushed herself even further into the world of big mountain free-ride competitions. But for Giulia, growth has always come from stepping outside the box.Her hunger for new challenges led her to become one of the few fully qualified female mountain guides based in Chamonix France — breaking barriers and deepening her connection to the mountains in the process. And in yet another out-of-the-box move, she's now training as an osteopath, combining her love of movement with a desire to help others stay strong, mobile, and pain-free in the mountains she calls home. This conversation goes deep—we talk about the psychology of pushing limits, decision-making in high-risk environments, the impact of mentors, climate change and even the role of mountains as therapy in an increasingly chaotic world. We also dive into the power of stepping outside our comfort zones—because, as Giulia sees it, true growth happens when we challenge ourselves. So, whether you're a skier, an adventurer, or just someone looking for inspiration, this episode has something for you. As a bonus episode, Giulia agreed to take the Beyond the Mountains questionnaire to reveal her true mountain character. So you can find the bonus episode after this inspiring conversation. This is where we play around and have a bit of fun.Hello friends, I am your host Ashley Pettit welcome to season 4, episode 1 of the Beyond the Mountains podcast. Where I talk to people who live, work and play in the mountains.Let's start the intro music and get on with the show. Last Saturday against North Carolina Central, Carolina's defensive line stepped up with a SEVEN play goal line stand. Given the underwhelming performances of that position group over the past several seasons, the moment felt important for this year's Tar Heel team. The question remains…is Ted Monachino's DL room legit and can they be the difference maker in Geoff Collins's first season as North Carolina's defensive coordinator. When the Jeep engineers designed the Grand Wagoneer, they certainly took to heart the well-worn phrase “Go big or go home.” That's obvious because when you travel in the long wheelbase version of the Stellantis SUV, as Host Jack Nerad did recently, you are definitely going big. And the Grand Wagoneer certainly provides all the comforts of home. The sizable SUV proved to be the perfect answer for Nerad's recent problem — how to transport seven adults and their luggage from his home on the coast to the desert of the Coachella Valley and back. Certainly, the U.S. auto market has its share of sizable vehicles, but this conundrum could only be answered by a few. After trekking forth and back, the obvious conclusion is that the Grand Wagoneer scores as the best of them. Luxury. Comfort. Convenience. Entertainment. The Grand Wagoneer offered all of those as it whisked the crew across Southern California in a style to which it is easy to become accustomed. Nerad will share more in this episode's road test segment. The other road test took place across the country as Co-Host Chris Teague and his family sampled the new top-of-the-line 2025 Honda Pilot Black Edition. Helping the crossover “man up,” it features a more aggressive design with gloss black 20-inch wheels and blackout accents. Honda's iVTM-4 all-wheel-drive system is standard, and inside, it offers exclusive red-accented leather seating, red stitching, and unique Black Edition branding. Was all this just too much testosterone for the Teague family? Chris will report his findings right here. This week our special guest is Kevin Butt, regional environmental sustainability director of Toyota's North American Environmental Sustainability Programs. Jack Nerad had a chance to sit down with him for a wide-ranging discussion of what Toyota is doing about climate change at a recent event in Texas. We think you'll be fascinated by what he has to say. In the news segment, we ask a provocative question: Is your car spying on you? A new initiative from the U.S. Commerce Department suggests that fear isn't science fiction — it's real. We'll have the details for you coming up. This week, there has been more unrest regarding electric vehicles, as several European automakers are re-jigging their EV launch plans. We'll give you the details and discuss how this could affect us here in America. If you drive an EV you know that the interaction at public chargers can get — shall we say — dramatic. Now, one public charger company is taking a step to limit that drama. But could it backfire? And speaking of EV drama, electric vehicle fires in one country have prompted its government to look into the situation as panic grows regarding the technology. This episode of America on the Road will provide details on all of those stories and more. America on the Road is brought to you by Driving Today.com, Mercury Insurance, and EMLandsea.com , the publisher of Nerad's latest book, Dance in the Dark, which is available HERE on Amazon.com

There's a saying that curiosity killed the cat. Have you ever seen a cat investigate a glass you left on the countertop? Or knock over a shelf of books while they try to perch on top? There's something to admire in that attitude, that kind of pure, unabashed curiosity. You'll find Diana Kander to be that same kind of curious. A self-described serial entrepreneur, she played and continues to play a vital role in building up the Kansas City economic area. Today, she's packaged what she's learned from pitching those businesses, and the case studies of businesses who landed the impossible pitch, into a book – called “Go Big Or Go Home - 5 Ways to Create a Customer Experience That Will Close the Deal.”
