Dr. Lisa Radwan was raised in rural New Jersey. She has a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and is a 1991 graduate of North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She was certified in Veterinary Chiropractic by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association in 1999. She was certified in Veterinary Acupuncture by Colorado State University in 2003. She continued her studies in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and earned certification in Chinese Veterinary Herbology by the Chi Institute in 2010. In 2010, Lisa became the 14th person to achieve the status of Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture, an advanced certification in Veterinary Acupuncture. Also in 2010 Lisa earned her degree as a human Acupuncture Therapist from the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine and is a licensed human acupuncturist. Dr. Radwan is one of the principals of One Medicine Center in Pulaski, Wisconsin along with Dr. Crystal Urban. The Center is an Integrative Practice for both people and animals. In this unique practice arrangement, Dr. Radwan provides holistic care for animals, while Dr. Urban (a Naturapathic Doctor, Acupuncturist, and Herbalist) serves their human patients. The Center has room for patients to walk through the herbal plantings and hike on nearby trails. They will be hosting small events, seminars, and classes for people to learn more about wellness, health, and mind-body medicine in their unique setting. In this conversation Dr. Radwan and I talk about her upbringing, her Veterinary School experience, mixed animal practice, working in New Zealand, getting a Licensed Acupuncture degree while still in practice, and establishing a unique integrative practice for pets and people. Today on Hempire Dr. Eileen Karpfinger is joined by Chris Kleronomos who aims to “bring apitherapy out into the light.” Chris became interested in natural medicine while serving in the U.S. Navy. As a Corpsman he provided battlefield first aid and medical treatment to Force Reconnaissance where he learned of the value of plants for both survival and medicine. The USMC Force Recon Units are the Marines version of the Army’s Green Beret or Navy’s SEAL Teams and fall under the Joint Special Operations Command. After the service he followed this interest and studied for a master’s degree in Oriental Medicine, at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine, and then completed a doctoral program focusing on oncology and chronic disease, at Bastyr University in Seattle. Chris Kleronomos is an activist. In the 2002 he worked in Cambodia for WildAid and Conservation International —which aims to end illegal wildlife trade, largely resulting from the trade in natural products (plant and animal) for medicine. He is an outspoken supporter of the value of natural healing in treating chronic pain and other disorders. And, as a newly elected board member of the AAS, he is working tirelessly to educate the public about apitherapy.

East and West: The Best of Both Medical Worlds with Heather Peterman – 6-4-16 | Mind Body Spirit Living This week begins a new series of shows that will look closely at some of the exciting advancements that are happening in the fields of medicine, healthcare and wellness.  There are many reasons to be optimistic about how our overall health can now be sustained, and how diseases can be addressed, that include new thinking and new discoveries.  Some conditions that even 10 years ago would have been considered serious can now be managed through readily available drugs or changes in habits that are fully within our control. Michael Koziol is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Board Certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture (Acupuncture Treatment Elk Grove Village) and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).  Michael’s interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine began when he was living in Guangzhou, China where he was treated several times with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.  After returning to the United States, he earned his Master of Science in Oriental Medicine from Midwest College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, IL.
