TALK TO ME, TEXT ITMissing black boxes. Frozen bodies. Questionable government grants. Today's episode dives into three bizarre news stories that raise troubling questions about institutional accountability and transparency. We begin with the puzzling National Transportation Safety Board report on January's Philadelphia plane crash that killed seven people. Investigators recovered the black box buried eight feet underground only to discover it hadn't been recording for years. How is this possible? What other critical safety oversights might be happening in the aviation industry? The mystery surrounding three Kansas City Chiefs fans found frozen to death has finally been resolved – they died from fentanyl and cocaine toxicity before freezing. But in a surprising turn, authorities have arrested the homeowner and his alleged drug dealer on involuntary manslaughter charges, raising complex questions about personal responsibility versus dealer accountability in drug-related deaths.Perhaps most eyebrow-raising is the revelation that the Biden administration approved a $600,000 USDA grant to study menstruation in transgender individuals – part of $128 million spread across 341 gender-related research grants. This spending raises serious questions about priorities and oversight in government funding. We wrap up with a thought-provoking question: If you could instantly become an expert in any field, what would you choose and why? This leads to an interesting reflection on what truly makes someone an "expert" in the first place.Don't miss our "Brood Awakening" podcast this Sunday! Investigators from the US federal agency noted that mid-air collisions like this are rare in the US, and they said it was far too early to speculate on what caused the crash; however, we will look at crowded airspaces and complex issues surrounding airports. Also, economic growth in the US slowed at the end of last year, as trade and investment declined and the country was hit by hurricanes and strikes. And, shoplifting, shrinkage, the five-finger discount—whatever you call it—stealing from shops is on the rise. Unlock the secrets of AI innovation with our esteemed guest, Jem Davies, non-executive director at Literal Labs. Jem shares his transition from Arm to Literal Labs, revealing how the revolutionary Tsetlin machine sets new benchmarks in efficiency, power usage, and processing speed. Jem is a highly experienced business leader and technologist having previously served 18 years at Arm. He is an engineer and was an Arm Fellow holding multiple patents on CPU and GPU design. Latterly, Jem's career moved into business management and he became a General Manager first in Arm's Media Processing Groups, then the founding General Manager of their Machine Learning group. In addition to setting future technology roadmaps, he also worked on several acquisitions leading to building new businesses inside Arm, including the Mali GPU (the world's #1-shipping GPU) and Arm's AI processors. Jem left Arm in 2021 and currently is chair of NAG and a non-executive director of Literal Labs, BOW, CamAI, and Cambridge Future Tech.Explore the crucial role of explainable AI and why it matters more than ever in today's regulated industries like healthcare and finance. Jem discusses Lietral Labs' Tsetlin Machine, which offers an intuitive audit trail of AI decision-making through propositional logic. This approach is breaking new ground by enhancing model efficiency without compromising on performance. We also tackle the challenge of unbiased training data and how tailored levels of explainability can make AI accessible to everyone, from everyday users to industry experts. As we gaze into the future of AI, we tackle the pressing issues of bias, energy consumption, and the potential impact of quantum computing. Jem provides insight into how Literal Labs is pioneering tools to promote ethical AI development, mitigate biases, and democratize AI innovation. From practical applications like water leak monitoring to the potential for AI to evolve into a tool of unimaginable uses, we reflect on how the intersection of explainability, energy efficiency, and bias shapes a responsible AI future. Join us for an episode that promises to broaden your understanding of AI's profound societal impact. Thanks for tuning in to "Advantest Talks Semi"! Most theater-goers are familiar with black boxes. We're not talking about literal boxes that are black but in a way it's not totally off the mark. Walking inside a black box theater, it's pretty bare and minimal – empty space, a place for an audience to sit, and maybe a few studio lights for dramatic lighting. These spaces may not have that grand sparkling feeling when you walk into a 200+ capacity, red curtain adorned proscenium, but it serves very much the same purpose: possibility in creativity. In this location scout round table discussion we'll be spotlighting a few films that take place in these spaces. The set may not exhibit a lot of pizazz and visual stimulation, but the concepts present big ideas that add to the narrative. Here we learn that black box theaters are meant to host possibilities, fill in the holes with imagination, and let the performance do the talking.–FILMSSTILL DANCINGAlbacete, SpainDirector & Dancer: Anton Valdbauer @deepdivedancehttps://vimeo.com/613317072Snap Into It.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnjUlViflTcDirector of Photography: Devin JamiesonChoreographed, Danced and Spoken by: Jillian MeyersComposed by: Matt CadyOUTOPIASlovenia/UKhttps://vimeo.com/624750258Inspired by director Franc Kranjc Director: Helen Rollins Writers: Adrian Romero and Helen Rollins Producers: Johnny Rollins, Peter Rollins, Adrian Romero, and Lisa Kruse Young Actor: Jack BoyleHONORABLE MENTIONS A Flower - Skyla Schreter Three on Four  (excerpt) - Marty BuhlerStanding Between Two Walls - Manizha –Become a Patreon Supporter and enjoy our exclusive resources released last summer and coming up this year. Got a question?
