The 1991 Washington Huskies are, by most accounts, one of the greatest college football teams ever assembled. With top players like Steve Emtman, Dave Hoffman, Jaime Fields, Donald Jones, Walter Bailey, Beno Bryant, Mario Bailey, Billy Joe Hobert and Mark Brunell as well as many others, the cast of characters not only on the field, but also on the coaching staff, were the stuff of legend. Former KJR personality Mike Gastineau, "The Gas Man", came to Seattle in early 1991, so he had a front row seat to see what that Husky team was able to do. Now, 30 years later, he has endeavored to give Husky fans and the rest of the nation a closer look at what that team was all about. His relationship with Hall-of-Fame coach Don James, James' wife Carol, as well as some of the players and other coaches associated with that team has allowed him to pull back the curtain, so to speak, and tell the backstories of what went on during that magical season. Dawgman's Kim Grinolds sat down with "The Gas Man" recently and got the chance to get the scoop on why Gastineau decided to write the book, what it meant as far as all of the information and his interviews with the players and coaches who made history. From the letdown of the 1990 season to the offseason of work the players and coaches put in to the epic win over Nebraska in Lincoln to their close call against Cal in Strawberry Canyon, Gastineau takes you through everything in his book "Fear No Man" that is required reading for any true Husky fan. In 1918, German flying ace Manfred von Richthofen chased an inexperienced Canadian pilot out of a dogfight and up the Somme valley. It would be the last chase of his life. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll describe the last moments of the Red Baron and the enduring controversy over who ended his career. We'll also consider some unwanted name changes and puzzle over an embarrassing Oscar speech. Intro: In the early 1970s, AI researcher James Meehan tried to teach a computer to retell Aesop's fables. In 1983, Jacob Henderson appealed a burglary conviction on the ground that the indictment was illiterate. Tragically, 2020 saw another year of killings of Black people by police and wannabes, including the murders of 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, father of five George Floyd in Minneapolis, and 26-year-old Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky. The deaths prompted nationwide outrage and a national conversation about the crisis in our criminal justice system. Donald Jones, author of three books on race, equity, and social disadvantage, takes a big look. Recorded on March 1, 2021.

At Booz Allen, everything begins and ends with employees. They needed them to feel connected to a collective purpose and share the company story. This was easier said than done. The majority of their employees work within the Department of Defense or the Intelligence Community – making them highly risk-averse, difficult to reach during business hours, and not social media savvy. In this talk from the 2018 AMPlify Conference, Donald Jones, Lead Associate & Social Technologist with Booz Allen shares how they developed a comprehensive approach as part of their overall employee engagement strategy to get employees smart on social media, educ ate them on how to safely and effectively talk about work online, and provide them a tool to make it easy for them to do so. What You’ll Learn: • How Booz Allen shifted employee social media culture from ‘risk averse’ to ‘safe sharing’ • What mix of training and educational resources Booz Allen used to meet the diverse needs of a large employee and leadership base • How to leverage employee advocacy tools to reach dispersed employees and make sharing easy and safe Connect with Donald on twitter @oleandros or LinkedIn
