They're bubbly, giddy. Oh, that was such great advice. You know, we found a place, we're moving in four weeks. And to this day, whenever that client comes in, they will say, the best advice you ever gave us had nothing to do with stocks and bonds because you knew what our life was, and you gave us advice that was objective and something that we couldn't see because we're in it.”—Kelly Flannigan

There's no doubt about it that whilst there's a lot of talk, action and impetus behind the climate challenge we all face - from a scientific viewpoint, the fundamental truth is that the world is moving in the wrong direction and quickly. To slow this dangerous trajectory and turn things around, there's a lot to do - it's going to take some serious disruption, and there's absolutely no room for any corporate ‘greenwash'. Mike shares his passion, expertise and experience discussing the profound and fundamental shifts that need to happen to really bring about effective and very necessary change. The elephant in the room is consumption and the fundamental relationship we have with ‘stuff'. We're going to need total behaviour change. Mike shares the three questions he's looking for from businesses who are committed to driving change and what he did at M&S to build sustainability into the heart of everything they do. Answering one or two of the questions - just isn't enough - All three questions need to be answered. Tune in to ask those questions of your own business.

Alchemist Nation Podcast With Gualter Amarelo The Real Estate Mentor
In this episode of the Alchemist Nation Real Estate Podcast, I talk to Florida's self-proclaimed Real Estate Junkie Kristine Flook. Kristine has been in the real estate industry for a long time where she has built relationships. She had been crushing real estate for a while and I wanted to know what keeps her in it and what is it that she loves about real estate. She asks if it is ok to admit that she is a real estate junkie. She says that she has been in real estate since 2004 and she has been selling commercial real estate in Southern Florida since 2006 mostly in multifamily which is a top asset class. She started with a coach called Mike Barry and that is how she learned to handle objections, how to keep sellers on the phone, setting up appointments, work on KPIs, and other stuff like that. She would definitely give him the credit and he is still a great real estate coach for a lot of people around the world now because he stretched out and he is doing things in other countries. Kristine offers 3 pieces of advice to 20-year-old Kristine just starting out in the real estate business. 1) - Don't party your twenties away, take yourself seriously. 2) - Position yourself for success, don't wait, and surround yourself with the right people 3) - Fail and Fail Fast. I spoke with Mike Barry, the senior vice president of research and development for Aderant, one of the largest software providers in the legal industry. We discussed key challenges that he expects clients to face in 2013, including lingering pressure from the financial crisis, increasing interest in alternative fees, and the disruptive force of innovative technology. Barry predicts a rise in the use of time capture tools, business intelligence programs, mobility products, and legal project management leading to a cultural revolution in law firms.
With the creation of project management offices (PMOs) and the hiring of full-time project managers, some organizations are experiencing formal project methodologies, intensive paperwork, more meetings, etc., which can significantly increase the amount of time it takes for projects to get designed, proposed, approved and implemented. There are also issues with projects that don't involve in-depth methodologies. ILTA recently sat down for a “virtual roundtable” with industry thought leaders to get their insight in these areas. Our interview with Mike Barry, Senior Vice President of R&D, Marketing and Product Management at Aderant, can be heard in its entirety on the accompanying podcast. Visit the ILTA website to hear each participant's interview.
