Dierks Bentley Dierks Bentley released his self-titled debut album in 2003, and the album's single, "What Was I Thinkin'?" topped the country charts. His 2005 effort, Modern Day Drifter, also went platinum. Bentley became the youngest member of the Grand Ole Opry when he was inducted on October 1, 2005m and that year, he won the CMA Horizon Award. His first DVD, The Dierks Bentley Experience, was filmed in 2006. Inheriting a love of music from his father, Bentley picked up his first instrument, an electric guitar, at age 13. After graduating from a prestigious East Coast prep school and attending Vanderbilt University, Bentley dropped out of college to pursue a career in music. Discouraged by the Nashville music scene, Bentley turned to bluegrass to help define his own sound. He worked for a time at The Nashville Network and played at local parties and bars before releasing his self-titled debut album for Capitol Nashville in 2003. The album's single, "What Was I Thinkin'?" topped the country charts. His 2005 effort, Modern Day Drifter, was also certified platinum. Bentley became the youngest member of the Grand Ole Opry when he was inducted on October 1, 2005. That year, he won the CMA Horizon Award. His first DVD, The Dierks Bentley Experience, was filmed in 2006 in Denver, Colorado. In 2009, Bentley released another hit album, Feel That Fire. He had two number one hits from the recording: the title track and "Sideways." His musical style has been compared to such country legends as Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard. Bentley's career continued to thrive with 2010's Up on the Ridge, his bluegrass-influenced album. With 2012's Home, he returned to a more contemporary country sound. Bentley played with Florida Georgia Line and Mike Eli as the Cadillac Three for the 2013 single "The South." In 2014, Bentley released Riser, which has garnered a lot of critical attention as well as several award nominations. The album is perhaps his most melancholy and contemplative work to date. Nashville native Jaren Johnston co-founded the rock band American Bang which released one album for Warner Bros. He went on to form the Cadillac Three, a Southern rock-infused trio that was named one of the “10 New Artists You Need to Know” by Rolling Stone Country in 2014. While finding success with his own self-described “country fuzz” sound, Johnston forged a second career as a behind-the-scenes songwriter for top country artists. Since 2012, he has seen more than a half dozen of his songs hit the country Top 10, four of which have climbed to the #1 position. He has co-written the songs “You Gonna Fly” and “Raise ‘Em Up” for Keith Urban, “Southern Girl” and “Meanwhile Back at "Mama’s” for Tim McGraw, “Days of Gold” and “Beachin’” for Jake Owen, “Sunshine and Whiskey” for Frankie Ballard, “Don’t It” for Billy Currington, and “The South,” a Top 40 hit for his own band, which featured guest appearances by Florida Georgia Line, Dierks Bentley, and Mike Eli. Additionally, his songs have been recorded by Sara Evans, Lonestar, Danielle Bradbery, Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Terri Clark, Meatloaf, Loverboy, Lynyrd Skynrd, and more. His music has been nominated for two Grammy awards and two Academy of Country Music awards, and it seems he’s just getting started.

The Eli Young Band started in Texas, Mike Eli and James Young hooked up for a fews shows in their college town of Denton. Now they are going nationally, and Kelly Lynn caught up with them for a Your Vote your Voice Concert at the Belmont University, where they also talked about their new Cd Jet Black and Jealous

Mike Eli is a founding member and lead singer of the Eli Young Band. Mike joins Country Music Made Me to discuss his early musical inspirations that developed from growing-up in a musical house hold, the special moments that created a desire to chase a career in music, and how a love of writing helped pave the way towards the formation of the Eli Young Band. Mike and Brendan talk about the bands formation in college, the hard work and determination you need to survive the early years of working numerous day jobs, playing gigs at night, and hearing No, No, No, and what it's taken to balance anxiety and a love of performing.  Mike explains how important local venues like Billy Bob's Texas and studios like Panhandle House have been to their success, and why they continue to live in Texas rather than chasing the bright lights on Nashville. Finally, Mike talks about his songwriting, how a busy career can lead to recording more outside cuts, and how important the last 2 years have been in rediscovering who he is as a songwriter and how that has influenced the bands new music.
