John spends this program explaining why Major League Baseball went out of its way to implement a soft salary cap in the form of a luxury tax and the reasons the league insisted it needed to be done. John then calls to task the same sport for allowing for the most clear manipulation of the very thing it seemed insistent on preventing. Catchers' framing is cheating, just cheating that is legal and not frowned upon. So apparently is deferring a player's agreed to salary for no other reason than to manipulate the luxury tax number. Another example of selected crimes that are okay. John makes a case of why Draymond Green continues to find himself in trouble with the NBA. Maybe he really does not want to play anymore. Hockey legend Mike Gartner joins us this week! Washington Capitals forward, Alex Ovechkin has his first opportunity to surpass Gartner's 708 career NHL goals tonight vs. The Rangers tonight at Madison Square Garden. We asked Gartner how he felt about possibly being surpassed by Ovechkin in the NHL all time goal scoring leaders club. Mike Gartner will comment on his greatest memory in his NHL career.

Fourth most by any Right Winger in NHL history. * Known for his incredibly hard and accurate slap shot as well as his uncanny ability to beat opposing goaltenders through the "5Hole". * Gartner was also a tough competitor notching 1,159 minutes in penalties. *Drafted by the Washington Capitals with the 4th selection in the first round of the 1979 NHL draft. * One of the fastest skaters to ever play in the NHL. *Finished runner up to Wayne Gretzky for the WHA "Rookie Of The Year" honors after the 1978-79 season * The only player in NHL history to score 30 or more goals in a season 17 times including 15 seasons in a row. * Traded to the NY Rangers in March of 1990 where over the next three seasons he would score 49, 40 and 45 goals. * During his time with the Rangers he would record his 500th and 600th goal while also registering  his 1,000 career point. * His Stanley Cup aspirations were dealt a blow when the Rangers traded him to the Maple Leafs for Glen Anderson at the trade deadline prior to the start of the playoffs and the Rangers winning the 1994 Stanley Cup championship.  *Gartner played in 7 All-Star games earning All-Star game MVP in 1993. *Gartner won the fastest skater competition 3 times. * Played in the 1981,82,83and 1993 World championships for Team Canada while also playing for the Canada Cup squads in 1984 and 1987. * Scored his 700 th career goal as a member of the Phoenix Coyotes. * Besides his career with the Capitals,Rangers, and Maple Leafs Gartner also played for the Minnesota North Stars as well as the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA.

Peter Marsh - Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets, Cincinnati Stingers Today's Guest on the PHA Podcast is NHL Veteran Peter Marsh After a prolific junior career with Sherbrooke of the Quebec Major Junior League, Peter played eight big league seasons between 1976 and 1984 with the Cincinnati Stingers, Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg Jets. Peter notched 44 goals in the WHA's swan song season in 1978-79, teaming with fellow youngsters and future Hall of Famers Mark Messier and Mike Gartner. Peter remains an active member of the Chicago Blackhawks Alumni Association, which contributes thousands of dollars each year to children in need. In this interview Peter recalls key points in his career in both leagues and his frightening connection to the Humbolt bus tragedy.    Peter is also involved in the upcoming “Drop Your Gloves” event in Massachusetts on May 5th.  This event is in honor of his former teammate Joe Carlevale, a fixture in Massachusetts hockey, who passed away from brain cancer in 2017.
