I'm honored to welcome in a new partnership to the podcast. Are you familiar with OLIPOP soda? Please go to www.drinkolipop.com, use promo code JAYREELZ for 15% off of your purchase. Plugging away in the summer heat, back to deliver another podcast with more of the same through your headphones, earbuds or speakers as I get into all that's happening in sports. On deck: (2:38) It's my first foray in taking the podcast OUTDOORS as I'm in the Sunshine State over the next few days, providing a new and interesting wrinkle to the latest episode. For the visually inclined, I have the VIDEO PODCAST on my YouTube channel so you can see for yourself. (Link to channel is below) (3:57) Of course, I have to mention my partnership with OLIPOP soda. Please see description above. I greatly appreciate your support! (4:56) The ‘second half' of the baseball season will commence tomorrow as the All-Star Break has come and gone. I'll review what happened at the Home Run Derby & Midsummer Classic earlier this week to set the stage for what could lie ahead over the final two and a half months of the season. I'll break down the intriguing storylines (i.e. AL division races. NL wild card race) and what impact will it have for those who are fighting for a playoff spot, with the trade deadline looming at the end of the month. (22:44) The final golf major of the year is at the Royal Troon Golf Course in Scotland. It's already been a struggle for many of its top players as the weather could be a factor over the next few days. With sluggish starts to Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler and US Open champion Bryson Dechambeau, will guys miss end up missing the cut? (28:36) Two big time wide receivers have been in the news as NFL training camp will be in full bloom by this time next week. Brandon Aiyuk wants out of San Francisco, but the front office wants him. If he does get shipped elsewhere, I'll explain why that wouldn't be as big of a blow for a 49ers squad expected to compete in the NFC. Then Davonte Adams stated that if he were to play on another team, it would be one where Aaron Rodgers will be under center. Let the rumors begin with the Jets possibly looking to acquire him. Is this an actual possibility? Or is it much ado about nothing? (35:43) There were a couple of passings, unfortunately, to acknowledge in the NBA. One time executive of the Orlando Magic, Pat Williams, dies at 84. And Joe “Jellybean” Bryant, the father of the late, great Kobe Bryant dies at 69. Then you have Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving nursing a broken hand that he suffered during a workout earlier this month as he should be ready come training camp in late September. (39:22) Things in the NHL have been rather quiet, but there have been a couple of signings (Kings Quinton Byfield, 5yr//$31M and Islanders Simon Holmstrom gets a one year deal) Plus, one long time Washington Capitals star, Evgeny Kuznetsov decides to go back home and play in the KHL. There is a rumor by Jeff Marek that an NHL team is considering a trade between Pierre-Luc Dubois, a center currently playing for the Los Angeles Kings, and Darcy Kuemper, a goaltender from the Washington Capitals. Ryan Leonard, the first round draft pick from the 2023 draft, has been chosen as one of the three college representatives of the United States national team. Evgeny Kuznetsov will not be playing in game two of the second round against the New York Rangers due to being a healthy scratch.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Monopoly GO!Get in the game and join your friends. On this day in DC Sports history, Evgeny Kuznetsov sent the Penguins packing as the Caps advanced to the conference finals.
On this episode of the "House of Hockey" Podcast, Rae and her guest co-host Andy Zilch, dive deep into the latest NHL news, PWHL news and share candid opinions on the hottest topics in the hockey world. First, they bring you up to speed on the excitement of the playoffs round 1, where the Dallas Stars shocked the hockey world by eliminating the defending champions, the Vegas Golden Knights, to the heartbreak of the Toronto Maple Leafs' Game 7 loss against the Boston Bruins. They discuss which team feels worse: Leafs or Knights. The duo also dives into the Carolina Hurricanes' Evgeny Kuznetsov's Slow-Mo Shootout Move and discusses whether that takes real skill or is just a flashy maneuver. Another hot topic on the agenda is the controversy surrounding ticket sales for Round 2, as the Carolina Hurricanes and Ticketmaster limit purchases to fans in specific regions, potentially blocking out NY Rangers supporters. Additionally, they dissect the recent coaching change for the Seattle Kraken, exploring the rumors that some players threatened to leave if Dave Hakstol remained at the helm. The drama continues with the Rod Brind'Amour coaching offer saga, questioning the timing of negotiating this during the team's Stanley Cup run. Rae and Andy share their predictions for the PWHL's Walter Cup winners before diving into a surprising revelation for Andy about his St. Louis Blues. Andy shares a recap of his recent work gigs, providing play-by-play in the roller hockey world. And they debate singer Shania Twain's hockey loyalties or lack thereof. Andy is a freelance play-by-play hockey broadcaster who recently covered the ACHA National Championships in St.Louis, MO and works with the Champions Hockey League calling games. He recently spent 5 seasons with the AHL's San Diego Gulls as their play-by-play broadcaster. Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
Tom Wilson is a critical piece of the Washington Capitals' present and future success. As one of the team's alternate captains and a veteran at just 30 years old, Wilson provides invaluable leadership on and off the ice. His rare blend of physicality, offensive production, and intangibles make him a keystone player. This past season, despite injuries and lineup shuffles, Wilson still produced at a high level with 18 goals and 35 points in 74 games while making his second All-Star appearance. With Alex Ovechkin entering the twilight of his illustrious career in Washington, Wilson's role as a leader will only expand. His seven-year contract extension begins next season, perfectly aligning with the need for Wilson to step up as the face of the next era of Capitals hockey. Nicklas Backstrom's uncertain playing future also opens the door for Wilson's voice to grow louder. Wilson has earned high praise from teammates for his work ethic, accountability, and team-first mentality. The Capitals will lean heavily on these traits as Wilson guides and mentors the organization's young core. His experience overcoming adversity this past season, including losing Backstrom and having to adapt to Evgeny Kuznetsov's departure, has only strengthened Wilson's leadership abilities. He is ready and eager to embrace being the heart, soul, and identity of the Capitals. With his rare power forward playing style and growing intangibles, Tom Wilson is clearly indispensable to everything Washington is building towards now and into the future.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Monopoly GO!Get in the game and join your friends. Frederik Andersen's 33 saves carried the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-1 win as they grabbed the opening game of their best-of-7 Eastern Conference quarterfinal series with the New York Islanders. Evgeny Kuznetsov scored the opening goal within the first two minutes to give Carolina the 1-0 lead. His power play goal snapped a 14-game goal drought. He would add an assist on Stefan Noesen's 3rd period goal that put the Canes in front to stay. Noesen, too, ended a long goal drought having not scored in the last 20 games of the regular season. As it turns out, the last time Noesen scored was against Montreal on the night that Andersen made his return to the lineup on March 7. Coincidentally, that goal was also the eventual game-winner. Martin Necas added an empty net goal to close out the scoring. Game 2 is Monday night at PNC Arena
Masters - score updates - what’s Tiger doing? Played five holes this morning to finish the first round +1, and was right back on to the course about 40 or so minutes later … not sure if it’s an advantage or not for players to get a few holes on the course early or not … 1. It’s a longer day and a fast turnaround, but the counter to that is you’re warmed up and have a feel for the course … 2. Do you feel like you’re trying to catch up to the leaders who finished Round 1 yesterday, so you might reach a bit on shots? Everyone handles it differently, but it is what it is Jared McCain of Duke announced today he’s going pro … this is of no shock to me; projected by many of the ‘experts’ to be drafted in the first round, seen some mocks of him in the 20’s - GO FOR IT … My guess is we’ll hear Kyle Filipowski announce his intentions for the NBA Draft in the near future Tyrese Proctor coming back to Duke - massive for John Scheyer because there’s a case where Scheyer could lose his starting five … Proctor will be the 2nd most tenured player back for Duke, anticipating Jeremy Roach returns for a 5th year, and that Filipowski leaves for the NBA … Roach, Proctor, and assuming Caleb Foster all return, that’s a lot of experience that’s much needed for a big time recruiting class that’s coming in, where they can shepherd in the youth Carolina Hurricanes are in action tonight - Game No. 80 on the road at St. Louis - Chicago on Sunday, then Columbus on Tuesday to close out the regular season … There’s still a lot to be gained - looking at the standings, the New York Rangers lost yesterday to the New York Islanders, meaning a win today by Carolina in any way, shape, or form puts the Hurricanes within one point of the Rangers for the top spot in the Metro division, and allows Carolina to stay ahead of Boston for the 2nd best record in the Eastern Conference … but there’s still much for this Canes team to figure out, both individually, and as a team … We’ve seen Andrei Svechnikov the past two games play like the Svech this team needs - a consistent scoring threat that’s physical, wins battles along the wall, and - more importantly - staying out of the penalty box! Evgeny Kuznetsov - he’ll be playing his 18th game with the Canes tonight - didn’t produce any points his first three games with Carolina (to be expected), but then had a four game point streak where he scored 2 goals and had 3 assists … in the 10 games since - 0 goals, 2 assists, -2 while averaging over 14:30/game … if he’s going to be this team’s No. 2 center, and skate on the power play, he needs to be a consistent threat on the ice; not a 5 points every 4 games, but needs to guide a line where he’s creating chances for Necas and Teravainen, because when Carolina has scoring threats throughout the line, that’s when they’re most dangerous. Can’t all fall on the top line and the power play The Carolina Panthers overall have had a good offseason so far … O-line signings, the Diontae Johnson trade was great, the long-term deal for Derrick Brown is amazing, but there are still holes to be filled, upgrades and needs. Dan Morgan & Dave Canales are not going to fix everything in one offseason, but there are still two positions that are need of a high end player upgrade, one on each side of the ball. Tight End - Tommy Tremble is okay, but still 23 years old, Ian Thomas is not much more than a blocker/ST guy.
Tim Donnelly & Dennis Cox discuss UConn basketball winning their 6th national championship since 1999, which has become the standard now that programs such as Duke basketball and UNC basketball have to now chase as programs. Also, Tim & Dennis discuss what players for the Carolina Hurricanes need to elevate their games as the playoffs approach, including Evgeny Kuznetsov & Andrei Svechnikov.
Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the officiating mess in the Caps vs Canes game. After Ovechkin the officiating felt tilted in the Canes favor after coach Rod Brind 'Amour complained when an intentional offsides ruling allowed Ovechkin to score his second of the game. The team was already frustrated when Evgeny Kuznetsov got away with a penalty after he tripped Nick Jensen, then Aho drew an arguably questionable call just over a minute later. Yeah I mean Corey, it's just when he watches it back, he'll see what everybody else saw, and he's on the back side of that, too," Carbery said in Raleigh. "He's — you're guessing at that point, because you don't have the sight line to be able to see there. And if you watch the replay, it's actually Kuemper, it's not Sandin, it's Kuemper and the puck is there and he goes to swipe at the puck and that's what gets Aho's skate. So yeah, it's the wrong call." Caps took two penalties with 10 minutes left and then you get goals from Martin Necas and Sebastian Aho tilting the ice in the Canes favor before an empty-netter from Jake Guentzel sealed the game with five seconds to go. Dan then talks about the Caps loss to the Hurricanes .Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!eBay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check.
