On March 24th, 2015, Mitchelle Blair was served an eviction notice at her rented townhouse in Detroit, Michigan. Blair was not home, so a crew entered the residence and began removing furniture. When they got to a white chest freezer in the living room, they found the body of a teenage girl inside. When police arrived, they discovered the body of a younger boy underneath the girl in the same freezer. In March 24, 2015, a court bailiff made his way to the Martin Luther King townhomes, in the lower east side of Detroit. He was looking for 35 year old Mitchelle Blair to serve an eviction notice. Mitchelle owed $2,206 in rent. He knocked at the door, but no one answered. So he identified himself and found a way to get in. The house was filthy but Mitchelle was nowhere to be found. Figuring she had already fled, the bailiff began moving things out of the home. Then he noticed something a bit strange. There was a freezer in the living room. No consideration was shown toward her mental illness because she openedly admitted she was (not) remorseful and if she had to do it again she would do the same thing. Now this kind of cold blooded mental illness is usually a result of years of abuse and trauma at very young ages as well as poor diet and negative environments. So we need to consider all of these things when we decide to make harsh judgements against the most vulnerable people in America who are our poor Black Mothers and their kids.
