ProjectME with Tiffany Carter – Entrepreneurship & Millionaire Mindset
Want to be in Forbes and featured on TV? But you think that you have to be some Insta-famous millionaire to be deemed worthy of press? This is not true. It’s far easier to get quality press for your business than most people realize. How do I know? For one, I was the press. I’m a former NBC and CBS TV Newscaster, and many of my long-time friends are still in the “news biz,” as we call it. Yes, it was a no-brainer to put a famous actor or a politician on TV, but it was also a no-brainer to share a highly engaging news story, which we knew our audience would appreciate. I’ve interviewed stay at home moms, many small business owners, self-published authors, and people who could barely pay their bills. You’re now wondering, “how do I get these press opportunities?” You have to create them. No reporter or writer is going to come to you unless you are already an established expert out in the public eye. You must create a sexy sellable storyline to pitch. It must be timely, different, and be beneficial to their target audience. (P.S. this is something I help my private clients create if they want press) You need to pitch your story to media outlets that are in alignment with your niche. (ie. Don’t pitch a top parenting magazine/blog if you aren’t a parent) To teach you exactly how to get your own press, I brought on Nicole Myden, a long-time public relations specialist, and founder of The PR Concierge, a publicity-consulting agency for purpose-driven entrepreneurs. You can connect with Nicole at: Instagram: @nicolemyden or @thePRconcierge Email: nicole@thePRconcierge.com Welcome to ProjectME the Podcast with your host Tiffany Carter, who takes the mystery out of making BIG money. Building your business and finding the PR journey and person that is right for you I am so excited to introduce you to this week’s guest because I know you’re going to walk away with so much insane value. Nicole Myden is someone who inspires me every time she opens her mouth and when she does, she truly speaks from the heart. She is a powerhouse in PR, queen of connection, authenticity, and truly serves and helps others see their worth. If you are an entrepreneur or considering starting your own business, questioning whether you need PR, listen to this episode to hear incredibly valuable advice and tips on how to do PR for yourself, how to find the best PR person for you, and when to recognize if the time is right. The power and process of PR Nicole launches this episode by dropping so much beautiful knowledge on what to expect on a PR journey, how to hold space and energy for what that means, and the commitment and time that is required to do so. She speaks about her twenty years plus of experience and shares tips for those that are looking to explore their own journey in PR, how to do that, and the two most important things to do in order to get started and be successful for your business. Pivoting, dealing with loss, and rebuilding She dives into her background of how she fell into PR, and the pivotal moment that made her leave her career and marriage to start over at 35, leaving everything behind. She shares the two incredibly traumatic losses she experienced soon after, and how her determination to work on herself internally and do the work brought so much positivity and abundance. Staying authentic to you Nicole digs into her personal experience of building her own businesses, how she is finally ready to return to the consistent “paycheck” and the stigma that comes with that word and decision. We discuss how entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone, and how most of all, if you feel inclined to start a company, 100% go for it—but know having passion for what you do is different from running a business—and sometimes, you can find one without the other. Nicole Myden Nicole loves connecting the dots for purpose-driven entrepreneurs and brands to the media. As I have sat in lockdown these past several weeks, I have been watching as everyone around the world has shown up online, and how all the different Enneagram types have reacted to being locked inside. In a time where we all are facing so much uncertainty, there’s a lot of pressure to show up as something you are not, to compare yourself to others, and to try and do something that isn’t authentic to your true self. Listen to this episode to hear the struggles each type might be facing, how social media comparing can impact each type, and tips for overcoming so you can find the value, self-worth, and beauty in showing up as yourself. Listen now Our new reality online—all the timeWe are all spending a lot of time online these days, whether it’s zoom for a meeting, studying, or wasting time on social media. Social media especially has become the most addictive way of passing time, resulting in a “scroll hole” that can often leave us feeling small and shameful while comparing ourselves to others seemingly perfect lives and successes. As a result, many of us feel pressure to become something we’re not, to create a business, or come out of quarantine with an abundance of accomplishments. It is important to remember that quantity does not necessarily mean transformation, and that there is worthiness and value in just being you. Embracing yourself and your superpowers I describe each type’s lifelong struggles, ones that are not cut and dry but generally applicable. I give tips on how to overcome these struggles, how to adjust and lean in to truly embrace yourself, and habits that can help. I share how instead of pivoting and trying to conform to be something you’re not, the Enneagram can expose your superpowers so you can see just how much value there is in being you.Quotes:“We want these things, but are we really, really ready for the commitment, and so much of it is actually energetic commitment.” -Nicole 8:40“If you are somebody who really, genuinely wants these opportunities, you have to be in a place of alignment.” -Nicole 9:00“Everybody in my mind is worthy of publicity, but you do not need it to define your worth.” -Nicole 11:57“If you’re doing something this week and you want to start PR around it now, you’re going to miss the boat.” -Nicole 15:28“Authenticity is key and timing of your launch is everything.” -Nicole 17:40“You never see when the pivots are coming but they always, always, always bring a new perspective if we are willing to see that.” 33:58“I realized I needed to go through probably the most uncomfortable phase of my life and if I was ready to step into it, I would eventually get back into the light.” -Nicole 37:09“In our messes, our greatest miracles are created.” 40:34“If you feel inclined to start a company, freaking go for it, but just know that having passion for what you do is different from running a company.” -Nicole 46:40“Running a company is not fun for everybody...I bet you right nowif we were sitting with all of our friends and all of the business owners we know, maybe 1 out 10 of them would tell you, ‘I actually like running a company.’” -Nicole 46:54
